Guest Arnold Posted August 11, 2005 Constance Cummings. Who she? Well she is a veteran actress hailing from the silent era who worked in Hollywood and the UK. And she's the widow of the British playwrite Benn Levy. She definitely passes the famousness test. She is living in Chelsea and is an extremely frail 95. Some may recall my pleas to include Kay Walsh (widow of David Lean and George Formby leading lady). Regretably, this was pooh-poohed and she was left out. Nine months later, she popped off and was accompanied by dazzling broadsheet obits. Miss Cummings is a similar worthy. True, she isn't overly famous and hasn't been in really well known films but she does have a star on the walk of fame which means she is famous enough. Well I do recall little clips (censored of course) on a Geraldo special on the adult film industry several years back. It was his comeback after finding nothing in Capone's vault. What I recall was grainy black and white silent films from the 30's and 40's and one in particular which showed a woman leading a man around and judging from hand level it was, well, um, un, er, uh, she was clearly holding his appendage. With only this fact added to her advanced age, still in my book, leaves her well outside the top 50 (in about position 70ish) so it would take about another year for her to find her way onto the deathlist.
