morbidillo 1 Posted December 12, 2006 It costs some people millions in cigarettes to get lung cancer, old Roy did,nt cough up a penny did he? Could he get into the guiness book of records as having smoked more of other peoples cigarettes without flashing his own? Could hundreds of jazz club-goers be entitled to some sort of compensation? One can't say for certain that it was passive smoking that caused Roy's cancer, but working in smoky venues for many years is recognised by specialists to be a major cause of this terrible disease. Just look at the proven constituents in cigarette smoke - scores of toxic chemicals, heavy metals and substances that are known to cause cancer in living organisms. There just is no doubt left that working in cigarette smoke is extremely dangerous - just look at the sheer numbers of people who die of smoking-rekated diseases. To his great credit, even though he attributed his cancer to cigarette smoke, Roy was never bitter or resentful of smokers and bore his illness with dignity. I met him, and apart from being the best tap dancer the UK has ever produced, he was a thoroughly good bloke. Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
