Paul Bearer 6,101 Posted October 2, 2011 Knocked out of the Scottish cup at home to the mighty Bo'ness 0-4.
time 8,599 Posted October 11, 2011 Fort maintained their 100% start to the season with a 1-0 defeat at home to Turriff (played 7, lost 7); Saturday's fixture doesn't look like changing that record - away to league-leading Nairn County. On the bright side, Strathspey have lost all 9 of their matches so far.
maryportfuncity 10,646 Posted October 12, 2011 Honestly, the plan is to meet in Amsterdam next August when we could have convened for Fort's first home match. Would 90 minutes watching the Fort do more long-term mental damage than slecting strong skunk off the menu in an Amsterdam coffee shop?

maryportfuncity 10,646 Posted October 29, 2011 Unfamiliarly close scorelines of late. D'ya think they're revving up to sneak a point soon?

maryportfuncity 10,646 Posted November 5, 2011 It's a good job they gave us due warning, the shock of that result could've been catastrophic on some of the unwary hereabouts.
Rotten Ali 600 Posted November 5, 2011 Even Danny Baker on radio 5live was raving about the match this morning - saying that these two teams were trully the worst in Britain. Glad to see the Fort still have their winless run intact.
maryportfuncity 10,646 Posted November 5, 2011 Summat to consider, Fort may be bottom but only by one goal in the goal difference. And they have THREE games in hand. Granted, that'll probably mean spankings that will make the goal difference worse, but if they snuck one draw in those games....

time 8,599 Posted November 15, 2011 While we're celebrating Fort's stunning form, spare a thought for Estonian Meistriliiga team FC Ajax Lasnamäe, who've finished their season with a record of Played 36, won 0, drawn 4, lost 32, goals for 11, against 192, points 4. You won't be surprised to hear they finished bottom and were relegated (Acknowledgements to The Guardian's The Knowledge column: "Estonian Meistriliiga (top tier) side FC Ajax Lasnamäe, who were promoted to the Meistriliiga this season, ended the season with four points," writes Robi Karhula. "They won zero, drew four and lost 32 matches. In those matches they scored 11 goals and conceded 192 goals resulting in a goal difference of -181. What I'm asking is, have they made a new record in being the worst side in a European top tier league and if not, what team is holding the infamous record?".) maryportfuncity 10,646 Posted November 16, 2011 Time I'm thinking that must be a record, though this whole business of senior and junior leagues is a little fraught. As anyone familiar with the classic tome that is Pointless by Jeff Connor will know, one of our worst senior sides in the UK is East Stirlingshire who regularly ran in appauling league stats in recent years. In some smaller league structures - like Scotland and Estonia - it is often the case that the quality from top to bottom in a league is variable and one minor financial slip can be enough to reduce a competitive team to joke status, from which a season long tanking can ensue. Pointless also makes it very clear that some sides insist on staying in "senior" leagues whilst other - better - teams decide to remain big fish in small ponds. Maybe those Estonians set themselves up for the massacres where other teams would have put in a deft swerve to avoid promotion out of their comfort zone. Maybe those Estonians set themselves up for the massacres where other teams would have put in a deft swerve to avoid promotion out of their comfort zone. Its quite possible that they did attempt to avoid promotion by only finishing 3rd. They got automatic promotion by virtue of the 1st and 2nd placed teams being the reserve teams of existing top-flight clubs and therefore being ineligible for promotion The previous season they finished fourth. Their previous venture into the top flight was slightly more successful - they lasted 2 seasons before being relegated with 5 points and GD of -139.
maryportfuncity 10,646 Posted November 19, 2011 Please note: The Fort William v Forres Mechanics game on Saturday 3 December 2011 will kick off at 2.00pm. That'll limit our pre-match pub time, eh? Oh aye, and Fort were spared action today because their opponents - Keith - were involved in a cup game. Still, not a bad day since Rothes, Brora and Strathspey all lost league matches.
