Syed Babar Ali and Elahi Bux Somroo are now the oldest Pakistani politicians. Both 98 and reportedly not in the best health.

Mohammad-Ali Amoui, Iranian pre-revolution communist politician and longtime dissident bedbound, seemingly unconscious and to me sounds like they expect him to die very soon.

So he should be fit to work by Conservative standards, then. In fact, he's probably more cerebrally active than the lot of them.

Times Obit for Sir Peter Hordern, former Tory MP for Horsham (sometime Horsham and Crawley) aged 95 (if he made his birthday on 18th April that is): https://www.thetimes.co.uk/article/sir-peter-hordern-obituary-tory-mp-who-was-thatcherite-before-thatcher-70b7hswjs

Last picked by @Gooseberry Crumble for his Apricot Crumble team in 2021, so he's one for the List of the Missed: https://www.derbydeadpool.co.uk/deadpool2021/celebs_H.html#horderpy19

The paywalled part of the Obit reveals he died on his birthday.

Tory MP Richard Drax will receive likely 3 million quid for the sale of his family's sugar plantation in Barbados: https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-13335431/tory-mp-richard-drax-receive-3-million-sale-family-plantation-barbados.html

His family's history with the slave trade is well known.

So despite that family receiving a bucketload of money when the slave trade was abolished, he and his family will receive even more money from the sale of the land.

And he is quite, quite all right with that.

Been going through current and past members of House of Lords still alive. I had to remove a lot of people in their 80's because list was getting too long:

L = Left HOL/retired since 2014 when HOL reform act came into place and are still living since April 2019.

  •
  • Baronees Trixie Gardner - 92

Why are there people in their 90's making decisions on laws in HOL?

Trixie Garner, Baroness Gardner of Parkes, Australian who was a local politician so squeezes in here, Telegraph Obit: https://www.telegraph.co.uk/obituaries/2024/04/22/lady-gardner-of-parkes-tory-peer-womens-rights-obituary/

I think @arghton picked her for next year's Windy City, alas dead before the start.

Got to be a DDP pick, surely? Edit: Aye, she was!

We’ve lost Baroness Gardner but we still have Baroness Garden:

On a serious note, Trixie was fantastic. Loved on all sides of the House and still working right to the end. She was a formidable battle axe but very lovely all the same, a bit like Baroness Trumpington and Baroness Sharples.

A point of interest... Trixie Gardner was the most senior life peer in the House of Lords, having been elevated on 19 June 1981.

That distinction now belongs to Caroline Cox (wiki), elevated on 2 March 1983. She'll be 87 in July and sits as a Crossbencher. She founded Christian Solidarity Worldwide, was the chancellor of two universities, and was a big backer of Section 28 back in the day. Also a supporter of Bashar al-Assad. In fact her wiki page is worth a read. It's all rather puzzling. Last spoke in the chamber on 25 March 2024 on the subject of the persecution of Christians. I don't think she'll be troubling the obit writers for a while.

Baroness Doreen Massey (wiki), Labour Member of the House of Lords (since 1999), dead at 85.

Not a good time to be a member of the Lords, particularly a Labour one (8 of their peers dead in 6 months). Luckily for Starmer, he's about to win an election so he'll be able to stuff the House full of more bootlickers seeing as Tony's cronies are really starting to drop like flies.

Update on Larry Pressler, the former US Senator/DDP pick.

Pressler recently moved into an assisted living facility in his home state of South Dakota and admits he’s probably at his “last stop” as a result. However, he claims to be in good health despite his cancer treatments.

Probably a little more notable for his work in polo than his ambassadorship where he seems to have accomplished very little of note. At least I can find. But that seems to be how it is with most Caribbean countries...
