Former Green Bay Packers linebacker Fred Carr passed away on Monday. He was 71. Carr had been suffering from dementia and prostate cancer. Carr was selected fifth overall in the 1968 NFL Draft. Carr played 10 seasons for the Packers and was inducted into the team's Hall of Fame in 1983. A three-time Pro Bowl selection and co-MVP of the 1970 Pro Bowl, Carr recorded 112 starts and appeared in 140 career games from 1968-77. SC -
So what, he's unique. But I'm glad the two of you condescended that I don't know the basic threads on this site, didn't take those into consideration, and flippantly chose to create a new thread for a VERY popular DP pick on these boards. I assure you I did. He deserves it. Under that nonsensical nonsense we have both a thread for Hollywood and American Sitcoms.... yet a Charlotte Rae thread is born. Etc ad nauseum. Don't worry your pretty little head over this one, he won't be the oldest once he's deceased. In which case the thread can be deleted for its gall and inaccuracy. SC

Why isn't Peter Falk a possible selection?
-
I know one team that didn't have Billy. Didn't seem enough points even with 3 bonus. But at least he died for those who had him, and I tip m'cap.

Nothing like letting those with a screw loose know that it's important to take out the teacher first, then gun down who you like unfettered. -

Medical Data, Information & Research

A bit of a fluff piece, but here's an article about someone who used 'immunotherapy' (nivolumab) to cure ovarian cancer. The article says immunotherapy doesn't work on all cancers, in fact only a few to date -- though expanded testing on all forms of cancer may begin soon. "For the vast majority of cancers, there is an amazingly clean correlation between response to therapy and mean mutational load," Pardoll said. But there were a few oddball exceptions. An unusual skin cancer called Merkel cell carcinoma responded to immunotherapy, scientists found. It is caused by a virus, and researchers suggested the infection itself draws the attention of the immune system. Mesothelioma also responded, perhaps because the asbestos that caused it also inflames the immune system. And some kidney cancers responded to immunotherapy treatment; no one knows why. And then came a handful of women with a rare ovarian cancer.... ---------------- Anyway, this is of particular interest to me cuz when I first heard of 'immunotherapy' I poo pooed it as hocus pocus. So when I saw DDP unique pick Karen Land with '3 months to live' crowdfunding to get $$ to go to Germany for immunotherapy, she seemed a lock to meet her maker. She is scheduled to receive treatment #1 in 3 weeks. We shall see. SC- 25 replies

The Rolling Probabilistic Ddp Scoreboard
Sir Creep replied to gcreptile's topic in DeathList extra-curricular
I'm probably the most vocal about it, and I'm playing to win. So I guess just ignore my point of view. Re-stating what Spade said doesn't make either you or Spade correct. The fact is I and everyone trying to win has loaded up far more with D40 pix this year (and I guess last but I was slow to arrive at this). As I said earlier the best way to go is just pick all D40, which takes the research out of the equation, and whoever pix the best D40 crew wins. If that is the policy of the DDP that is fine. But to couch it as 'just an added bonus' is absurd. It changes the entire game and detracts from research. I'm mathematically correct, period. SC -
One damn letter away from Judy Blume, who I'm sure is on a number of lists. Reaper closing in?

Jim Dickey, the first football coach to guide Kansas State to a bowl game, died on Saturday. He was 83. -
Dare say I spent way too much time on this. Probably 7-8 hours on gdamn Kevin Bacon alone. 20 hours total at least. I only looked at half the Grammy years, I mean I was worn out. Fun exercise though! I was amazed that a huge chunk of actors working with Phily-born Bacon were themselves from Phily, PA, or very nearby. I had NO idea Hollywood cast people like this. Kinda blows up the whole ‘audition’ thingy. Why would they do this, to have people from same part of the country with similar dialects as not to distract or summat? Anyways it was amazing and enlightening. SC

Shit I was already being polite. We call it POP in Detroit. My Yankness isn't a secret. That said I do attempt at all times to fit in (i.e. 'colour' or 'neighbour'), etc. Help a brother out here, what am I supposed to say?
