#9: Norwegian zoologists have found about 30 plastic bags and other plastic waste in the stomach of a beaked whale that had beached on a southwestern Norway coast. The visibly sick, 2-ton goose-beaked whale was euthanized, Terje Lislevand of Bergen University said Friday. "The (whale's) stomach was full of plastic," Lislevand said, adding that its intestine "had no food, only some remnants of a squid's head in addition to a thin fat layer." Well done, humans! SC

meh -- maybe coulda put in Beauty Queen thread, but this will work. Alene Akins, a former Playboy bunny and the third wife of Larry King, has died, the talk shot host revealed on Friday. Akins and the former CNN talk show host were married twice, from 1961-1963 and again from 1967-1972. They share two children, Chaia and Andy, her son who King adopted during their first marriage. SC Edit: OK not BQ thread. Do we have a WHORE thread? -
"Increasingly, IMDb customers have migrated to IMDb's social media accounts as the primary place they choose to post comments and communicate with IMDb's editors and one another." Do you take issue with that statement? Or are you steadfast in not doing as the hoi polio? SC

That's great news re: Young, you may want to look in baseball next time first -- and even if it wasn't there, you may want to post it there, as proper. SC

I wonder how many people have ever had an X in their first and last names? Must be pretty damned rare. SC -
Wetton is a dead cert, assuming Campbell goes and Wetton doesn't make drop 40(most likely) it's only a net 1 point loss. Well it's a lost cause. Rules say once submitted that's it. My boner for forgetting Campbell. SC And yet I look now and Wetton was replaced circumventing the rules and my acceptance of such as stated in numerous posts thereafter. Between that and the theme team omissions, I believe I'll leave DDP to the 'experts'. If I could pull my team, I would. It's all good, I enjoy the league I run. SirC

A prominent north Alabama businessman and former professional football player died on Friday. Morgan County Coroner Jeffrey Chunn confirms that Benny Perrin killed himself. He was 57 years old. Police responded to a suicide call at Perrin's home at about 12:30 p.m. Friday Perrin was pronounced dead at Decatur Morgan Hospital shortly after. Matt Redman, a co-founder of one of the nation’s oldest AIDS service organizations and an early voice of activism in Los Angeles when the disease was first stoking fear and prejudice in America, has died. He was 67. Redman and three others launched what would become AIDS Project Los Angeles in 1982 after attending an emergency meeting about something then known as Gay Related Immunodeficiency Disease, an early name for AIDS. I had a feeling my post would leave this question in necessity of an answer. And here it is!

Turns out he blew his head off in front of his wife. So when the article said the cause of death was unknown that was utter horseshit. SC http://www.11alive.com/mb/news/police-allman-brothers-drummer-trucks-killed-himself-in-front-of-wife/395368511 What they meant was that the cause hadn't yet been made public. It was at that time unknown to all but a few people. He actually did the deed in his kitchen, right? So they were having brains on toast at that point Brains on toast! That was a real treat when I was a kid. Mind you, the other kids at school thought we were weird. Still preferable over Marmite.

Pretty damned synchronous that Vera Lynn (first Brit with a U.S. #1) turned 100 on the day that Joe Meek (first Brit with a U.S. 'rock' #1) has been dead 50 years. Or put another way, Meek died on Lynn's 50th birthday. I mean....cmon! SC

Joe Meek went into orbit 50 years ago today at 37 years old. Wrote one of the great early rock instrumentals -- Telstar, released by the Tornados in July 1962,and became the first U.S. number one by a British group. Up to that point, there had only been three British names that topped the U.S. chart. Interestingly, two are still alive: Laurie London (73) and Vera Lynn (100 TODAY). Other names to consider in the future re: Telstar: Tornado Drummer Clem Cattini - 79 Tornado Singer/rhythm guitar George Bellamy - 75 Margie Singleton (recorded a cover version of "Magic Star', which is Telstar with later added vocals) - 81 Alberto Cortez (released a Spanish version) - 76

I'm sure he is going to be an obit free zone. But I noted his name and thought he will get the right help. However I read the notes and cut and paste the best bit... Prognosis The major determinants of survival are histology and clinical stage. Poor prognostic factors include high grade, neural involvement, locally advanced disease, advanced age, associated pain, regional lymph node metastases, distant metastasis, and accumulation of p53 or c-erbB2 oncoproteins. Although statements regarding survival are difficult to make because of the large variety of histologic types, 20% of all patients will develop distant metastases. The presence of distant metastases heralds a poor prognosis, with a median survival of 4.3-7.3 months. Overall 5-year survival for all stages and histologic types is approximately 62%. The overall 5-year survival for recurrent disease is approximately 37%. Because of the risk of recurrence, all patients who have had a histologically proven malignant salivary gland tumor should have lifelong follow-up. Now to me that looks a tad grim. Could do with a better fame check.... Maybe one for 2011? One for 2014. Four years, similar to Adam Yauch. Less than three years after the death of Tony Gwynn, another San Diego Padres legend has been diagnosed with cancer believed to be related to tobacco use. Former NL Cy Young Award winner Randy Jones revealed that doctors told him in November that he had throat cancer. Jones, 67, said that the disease was caught early and hadn’t spread to the lymph nodes. “I’m beating this thing,” Jones said. Bwa ha ha ha.... SC

Not a pop star by any means but at a loss where to place this otherwise. So a rather popular shoegaze Detroit-area band called Majesty Crush was around in the late 80s, early 90s. I didn't know singer David Stroughter personally but saw them a couple times in clubs and I did play music with his bandmates from later projects. Apparently Mr. Stroughter, now in L.A., decided to go to the airport on a high speed chase, alight from his vehicle wielding an ax at police, and promptly received his just reward. Sad to hear, but if you're going to go out, you may as well go out in a Detroit-like manner. RIP SirC Majesty Crush - 'No. 1 Fan'
