Sad news and great song. However, the Mr.Bojangles yassirbossin Negro outfit in that video -- entertaining an all white crowd like Mantan and Sleep-and-Eat from Bamboozled -- is a frightening reminder of where we were in America in 1958. Course just look around in 2017 I reckon. SC

I'd have tapped that ass, or what's left of it, yes. SC

While DPers looked at the NYMets Doc Gooden and Daryl Strawberry as up-and-comers, pitcher Anthony Young, who has been diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumor, slipped out the back door. SC

The man believed to be the last Berks County resident to survive the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor has died. Daniel Schroeder passed away Sunday night at Reading Hospital, according to Pennsylvania Rep. Mark Gillen. The Navy veteran was 96. For the record, fewer than 300 Pearl Harbor survivors are still reported to be living. When it gets down to 100 I'll start a thread. Maybe 50. SC

Circuses are a thing of the past, but at least we still have rodeos to humiliate and abuse animals. #6: A bucking horse at the Stock Show rodeo died Sunday night after crashing into a wall and suffering a spinal cord injury. The incident happened during a saddle bronc event at the Will Rogers Coliseum. A horse also died of a similar injury during a saddle bronc event at the rodeo on Jan. 16. Video of Sunday’s incident was shot by Bruce Weidner, a rodeo fan from Benbrook. The footage shows the horse — a 9-year-old named Treasure of Patience, Brockman said — bucking straight toward a wall, crashing into it head-first as the eight-second buzzer sounds. SC

JOHN STAMOS IS DEAD! A son of Greek immigrants who rose to be a respected Illinois Supreme Court justice, John J. Stamos developed a reputation for integrity to match his legal wisdom. Mr. Stamos died Saturday of pulmonary fibrosis at his Northbrook home after a dinner with his family to celebrate his 93rd birthday, which fell Monday, the day his family planned his funeral. SC

I'm aware my cinematic tastes are generally odd, but Reuben, Reuben is a personal fave. Sorry to hear this news. SC

Hey Thatcher.... so how did you find this one? I did a random Google search and get nothing. Of course I'm searching 'in English', and I presume Google isn't searching other languages. So....are you doing non-English searches? Just wondering. For the record still no English language obit anywhere. Good catch. SC Twitter is a great friend I figured that. Y-Dub follows Twitter a lot as well. I've no intention, and it's all good. I've got you two chasing down the obits! SC

Ugh -- what's happening to her?!? I kinda liked her. It's sad to see her going down the path of Lindsay Lohan and Amy Winehouse, but I hope she can get her life back together. BCAlum, help me please, I knew her name but couldn't remember what film made her famous? Mischa was famous for starring in the hit TV series "The OC" on Fox Network. It's a rather vapid show about a bunch of spoiled teens in Orange County, California, USA. So she's been carted off again for a mental evaluation after screaming about her mother being a witch and quoting Ziggy Stardust: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-4162440/Mischa-Barton-taken-hospital-mental-evaluation.html Bless her, whoever she is. Mischa Barton has put out a statement stating that she was drugged with GHB during a night out prior to being hospitalised, and this was the reason for said hospitalisation. Guilty as charged.

By the same token, do we count Emmanuelle Riva as a miss? Famous in the English-speaking world for her Oscar, and looked older and more tired than a de Havilland or a Doris Day. Hell no; and oh hell no.

This may be a person of interest, and her minor newsworthy accomplishment may push her outta this category, but for now.... 'From Alaska’s rugged terrain to Florida’s sandy coast, West Michigan native Joan Hannah Darrell has completed half marathons in all 50 states. But before she could finish her nine-year running endeavor, she discovered the road with the most bumps and curves was the road of life. Three-quarters of her way through the 50-state journey, Darrell was diagnosed with stage 3 colon cancer in 2013 at age 60. Doctors gave her anywhere from eight months to three years to live, and chemotherapy nearly took her life, but on Nov. 5, 2016, Hanna Darrell crossed her 50th half-marathon finish line in New Castle, Delaware.' I'm guessing now that she's done she has little left to live for. Mission accomplished. Time to let go. http://m.washingtontimes.com/news/2017/jan/30/runner-is-diagnosed-with-cancer-during-50-state-jo/ SC

Did you PM me the teams? Did you send an email? Doesn't telepathy work for fuck's sake !!!! ?? Oy vey. NO TMIB. Seriously, I presumed posting was equivalent to the formalities. Only reason I emailed my main team was for secrecy, not formalities. I guess you'd have shut me out totally had I not done so. 'Lucky' me. SMH lesson learned. SC

I just looked and nowhere do I see my GRIS GRIS theme team?! I posted the lineup here on this thread. Same as my other theme team MADE IN DETROIT which we had a lively discussion about Mike Ilitch here on this thread. What gives? I'll chalk it up to oversight. Sir C. Edit: See posts 67 and 105

A woman I worked with her parents died within minutes of each other. Both on their respective deathbeds the mum kept asking if the dad was dead yet. When her family finally said yes he was gone she died. She apparently said that she was going to outlive the rotten cheating bastard. Mission accomplished Mrs C. I don't exactly see where threads were 'merged' and prefer that RadGuy's idea for a separate thread had taken hold. Alas..... Randy Kitson passed away March 4. Daughter Rose Collins says it may have been a stroke that caused his sudden death, but doctors aren't certain. "We are not even sure what happened, because all of the heart scans looked good." Just hours after his passing, the health of Randy's wife of nearly 13 years, Judith Kitson, became Collins' priority. On Sunday, just 44 hours after her husband Randy's death, Judith passed away. Judith was fighting cancer in her bones and lungs. Her diagnosis was almost one year ago. Collins says in recent weeks her mother's health was strong and stable. SC I'm not letting go of this idea. RadGuy should be more vocal about this being a thread. A Long Island, New York couple married for 70 years died just hours apart at their assisted living residence. William Bauer and his 92-year-old wife Ruth went to bed Monday night, but Ruth never woke up. The couple, and longtime New Hyde Park residents, had been married 70 years. About 11 hours later William died. He was 97. SC

WTF? You always get all warm in the crotch over tepid news about a person in DP? Big Fn deal, if he's only JUST NOW going on oxygen then he ain't going anywhere in 2017; and I say that with him on two of my teams. February? Sure.... 2019. I can list half a dozen ALS sufferers who have lived with a trache tube breathing for them for years. OJ Brigance and Steve Gleason off the top of my tiny brain. February. Pfffft. SC
