Pyrrhic as it may be. Isn't this the pool I was penalized for correctly choosing a person's death, only to SUBSEQUENTLY be directed to a post years earlier with a set of rules? Why yes it is. Why basketball--who knows? But OBVIOUSLY had rules been posted with the basketball absurdity Is not have selected him. Enjoy you victory. SC

Gordon Hunt died Monday at his home in Los Angeles of complications from Parkinson’s disease. He was 87. Born in Sherman Oaks in 1929, Hunt worked in New York before landing at the Mark Taper Forum in L.A. as the theater’s casting director. He was later hired by Hanna-Barbera and worked for a decade as the voice director during the studio’s frenetic days as the king of animation TV. He worked on “The Jetsons,” “The Smurfs,” “Scooby-Doo,” “The Flintstones” and more. He also directed television sitcoms, including episodes of “Frazier,” “Suddenly Susan” and “Mad About You,” the long-running NBC show for which his daughter won four Emmys. He won the Directors Guild of America Award in 1996 for his work on a 1997 episode, “The Birth.” SC http://www.latimes.com/local/obituaries/la-me-gordon-hunt-20161220-story.html

So, How's Your 2017 Shortlist Looking?
Sir Creep replied to msc's topic in DeathList extra-curricular
If y'all keep posting definite deaths for 2017 in the forums I'll have to keep putting names in and out. Remember--the only people who can't possibly obit are the living. Am I disappointed I overestimate Tony Adamowicz's obitability? Yes. Would I take my chances again? Indubitably. Had I received credit I'd be top 25 in my first go, and was top 10 through August so no complaints. It's a tough row to hoe for us Yanks though. All in good sport I suppose. SC -

Didn't look up Cardinale.

People Who Are Dead According To Wikipedia...
Sir Creep replied to Vaagheid's topic in DeathList Forum
I confess that I had to look that up.Seriously, its stretching the whole credibility ( if there is any ) of Death Listing. What next? An expert in CorporateTax?? Come on, some of this shite is getting beyond a joke. No offense but pull your head outta your UK-centric arse. There isn't a bigger name in polling than the Harris poll, perhaps Gallup polls but they are most certainly contemporaries. This is why I say I don't stand a chance in DDP -- someone may be commonplace over there and literally 0.000001 % of Americans have heard of them. Not knowing a Harris poll is akin to never watching or listening to the news over hear. SC -
So, How's Your 2017 Shortlist Looking?
Sir Creep replied to msc's topic in DeathList extra-curricular
In my DP I run there are categories, one of which is TV/Hollywood. I don't honestly think Shannen Doherty is gonna die in 2017 but I need two people and she's the only one in over 200 names that qualifies other than Kilmer---and no fucking way Kilmer is dying in 2017. Lend a brother a hand and give me a name I'm forgetting (caveat has to be at least slightly recognizable to Americans). its also 100- age for points so no 97 year olds like Huston Smith I'm already considering SC -
Number three: The Larch A woman has been killed and five others injured after a tree fell on a wedding party in California. A four-year-old girl was said to be in a critical condition with head injuries after the large eucalyptus fell unexpectedly, trapping several people who had gathered under the tree to take pictures. I've never heard of anyone named Rebecca Black that I'd like to die, but I HAVE heard of the jockey thread--in fact I posted in it 48 hours ago, meaning it's on the first page of threads your browser pulled up. SC

Lots of talk about 'fake news' on this side of the Pond and I must say I think this link is phony. It called Sarah Silverman a 'comedian'. SC

That was logged somewhere else hereabouts. I made the point then that Bingham might have been the most credible claimant to being Ali's best friend. He remained loyal and involved regardless of what Ali was up to. Cool beans. I did a search before posting and came up empty :-(

Good catch. I've put Nuon Chea's name on a couple DPs the past couple years thinking at a mere 88 he won't last--granted that's a Cambodian prison though. SC

Never trust anyone with pancreatic cancer. Steve LaTourette and Vera Caslavska come to mind.So do Wilko Johnson and Ryan Buell. Or are we only picking names that fit our assertion and ignoring the rest? You should be a politician. SC

Oh no not the former Mayor of Shreveport. Forget Bowie....I guess my blocking doesn't work when someone comments on the blocked post--making it visible. Admins need to look into that. When I block something I don't want to see a single reference to it ever. Posts like this is why I blocked this fool--but moreso his remblings of the obvious and things that go without mentioning--that he has a Tourette's-like need to mention. So knowing the blocking function isn't what it purports to be makes me sadder than all the denizens of Shreveport combined. SC Wow. It sounds like you're doing more blocking than the LA Rams' offensive line. I've only ever blocked one person. Not sure where your information is coming from.SC

Awh that is a heartbreaking photo.Childhood sweethearts and married for 73 years.Must be heartbreaking.Reckon she won`t last long without him. Well if they were high school sweethearts she too is 95-ish so just how fahkin long do you think we should expect her to last? Define 'last long without him' so I have an inkling if we can put a date certain and make a poll question. SC

Felix Browder, a mathematics prodigy who graduated from MIT at 18 and received his PhD at 20, but who struggled to gain a foothold in the academic world of the 1950s because his father, Earl Browder, was a longtime leader of the U.S. Communist Party, died Dec. 10 at his home in Princeton, N.J. He was 89. The cause was a stroke, said a son, Bill Browder. Dr. Browder was renowned in the field of nonlinear functional analysis — a branch of mathematics with wide applications to such fields as physics, engineering and finance. He later chaired the mathematics department at the University of Chicago and in 2000 was awarded the National Medal of Science by President Bill Clinton.
