Pope Francis visited Cardinal Roger Etchegaray in hospital on Sunday night, after the cardinal fell while greeting the Pontiff at the end of Mass in St Peter’s Basilica earlier in the day. Cardinal Etchegaray, 93, is being treated at the Gemelli Hospital, in Rome, for a fractured left femur. He will reportedly need an operation to repair the fracture. The cardinal previously broke his leg and hip on Christmas Eve in 2009 at St Peter’s Basilica, when a woman knocked him and Benedict XVI to the ground during midnight Mass. The NYC Medical Examiner's Office said that Kiersten Cerveny, 38, died of "acute cocaine and alcohol intoxication." Cerveny, who grew up in NJ and won the "America's Junior Miss" pageant, practiced dermatology in Brooklyn and Manhattan. She and her husband had three young children. SC

Kerry Goode, who played football at University of Alabama and later in the NFL with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Miami Dolphins, announced today that he has been diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). Goode received the formal diagnosis on August 11, 2015, after experiencing symptoms of rapid weight loss and muscle twitches for over a year. Given the 2-5 years from diagnosis timeframe, a name for 2018. SC

A feisty Alberta centenarian who made headlines for competing in javelin events has died. Florence Storch was 102. An obituary says she died Wednesday in Hanna, where she had lived in a seniors lodge. Storch said in interviews that she accidentally got into javelin in her 90s, while helping organize the Canada 55-Plus Games in her home town. When she noticed that no one had signed up for the sport, she put her name on the list. She won many medals and for several years was the oldest athlete at the Games. SC

The Philadelphia Zoo says the oldest polar bear in the United States has died. 'Klondike' was 34 years old. Klondike was euthanized Friday morning due to a "recent and substantial decline in her medical condition." It says Klondike had trouble standing and walking and didn't respond to treatment. The zoo's remaining polar bear, 'Coldilocks', also is 34 years old and becomes the nation's oldest polar bear.

Makeup artist to the stars Jake Bailey, who died today following an apparent suicide, was found by his assistant slumped inside an SUV outside his Hollywood home. The Los Angeles County Coroner's Office confirmed that Bailey was found dead at 8.25am and appeared to have suffered from carbon monoxide poisoning in an apparent suicide. SC
