When you see a fork in the road to heaven, take it. I thought Yogi died years ago, but it's deja vu all over again. RIP Yogi. SC

I forgot who listed her but I recall seeing her name and groaning cuz I had forgotten her. I knew she was a goner. Well done whoever it was. SC

Died in 2013 but it appears this is a new article today. If I'm wrong.... *shrugs* Reporters Without Borders is stunned to learn that well-known Syrian cartoonist Akram Raslan died in detention in 2013, less than a year after his arrest in October 2012, and that his death was almost certainly the result of having been tortured by the Syrian security services. Rumours of his death have been circulating online in recent days and now the sources consulted by Reporters Without Borders say it has been confirmed. In July 2013, shortly before his death, he was secretly put on trial by a terrorism court in a trial with no witnesses and no defence lawyers, according to Cartoonists Rights Network International. Just throwing this idea out there: as all other games start on the obligatory Jan 1, perhaps this one could launch July1 as a fine midway point and we could capture a few names like Sacks etc that didn't pop on the radar till Feb but who likely weren't going to last through the year. Also a good way for us (well, me) to sit down and compile a midyear list that will help with homework come Dec 31. Again, just a thought. We did start at mid year anyway. Would give this game a uniqueness! SC

His fame is tenuous but I've seen worse. Plus I used to have quite a fish collection once. Joseph R. Geraci, a scientist and veterinarian who was a leading expert in marine mammal medicine and aquatic wildlife conservation and a former official of the National Aquarium in Baltimore, died Sept. 10 at his home in Leesburg, Va. He was 77. SC https://www.washingtonpost.com/local/obituaries/joseph-r-geraci-scientist-and-former-national-aquarium-official-dies-at-77/2015/09/19/2868a554-5e30-11e5-b38e-06883aacba64_story.html

If it was just the word labour (or the Party), I would gladly have spelled it as I just did. I try to play along all the time, as my 1500 posts will show. However, this referenced OUR holiday, and I'm not bloody changing the spelling of LABOR DAY as pertains to the same. Jeesh. SC -

Aye, we're noticeably lacking a celtic connections thread, we could call it....(drum roll); Taking the Micks! I didn't realize he was but 29 years old. Goodness! Coulda put him in Under 45 thread but prefer him in Taking the Micks :-) I'll happily give you the honour of creating it if you wish. I'm 20% Celtic give or take though it be my most celebrated percentage--and surname. SMcC

The aide of New York Governor Andrew Cuomo has passed away. Carey Gabay, an attorney for Governor Cuomo’s administration was hit by a stray bullet while waiting to celebrate the West Indian Labor Day Parade in Brooklyn, New York. The Harvard graduate was placed on life support after the shooting. His family declared him brain dead late Tuesday--though later apologized for remark about Cuomo--and as for their son he was taken off life support.
