    World War II Veterans

Emma Didlake dies at 110 - apparently older than Overton who now is believed to hold the title of America's oldest veteran. http://www.mysanantonio.com/news/us-world/article/America-s-oldest-known-veteran-dies-at-110-6448731.php But she didn't smoke 12 cigars a day. I'm also guessing all 110 year olds die 'suddenly' RIP SC

i completely agree with her. Airlines here in America are now charging double seats for hefty folk. Been going on some time now. 5 years or more maybe. If you take up two seats and more importantly weigh as much as two people (total weight of cargo kinda important) then by God pay up. SC

you dont refer to yourself in the third person either! I only do that once I a while. You don't like my prima donna speak, Paul. I disagree we are all opinionated. What sense is taking one's opinions to the grave? Let me out, I say! And no matter what you say, own it like a boss. SC not in third person PS: I don't believe so. I believe it was a Guest posted on this dead man's thread. If it was you then the shoe fits. Make sure they're thick-soled cuz one might get butthurt wearing thin-soled ones around here. At least when Sir Creep is about (ahh dammit third person).

This one probably belongs in University Presidents. A cardiologist who served as dean of the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine has died. The school announced that Richard S. Ross, a cardiologist who also served as president of the American Heart Association in the early 1970s, died Tuesday. He was 91 and had been suffering from Parkinson's disease. Ross was dean of the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine from 1975 to 1990, the second-longest tenure in its history. Edward P. Hourigan, former publisher of The Citizens’ Voice, died on Saturday, at the age of 77. Hourigan, who worked in the newspaper industry for decades, “had ink in his blood,” said his sons, Ed and Joe Hourigan. Looks like we found a cause of death. University Presidents?

I caught this one trying to escape! Obit from July.... Former Cornerstone University President Dr. Walter Wilbert Welch died Thursday morning at the age of 97. Welch is credited with transforming the school from a small Bible college into the four-year, accredited university it is today. (Having grown up in Michigan I'm aware of this small school unheard of beyond a 500-mile radius.) SC http://woodtv.com/2015/07/16/former-cornerstone-president-welch-dies/

Oooo, I believe I've already chosen that date (I launched the sweeps in fact). http://www.deathlist.net/forums/index.php?showtopic=1430&p=234094 Is that allowed? Then everyone will pile on that date. It'll be anarchy! ;-| SC I'll be a gentleman and step aside for you. My new date is December 28th, 2015. Haha no mate I think it's grand. We shall both have Jan 20. It is rather fascinating we arrived there from two completely different angles.SC

    Which Names Would You Drop?

Well I won't bust on someone for putting Ali on their list. He certainly is a fair choice. But saying he is a 'can't miss' for 2016 begs the question. I'm sure we all approach putting our lists together differently. Sir Creep is going to put every person with Stage 3 or worse cancer on his list before he finds room for Ali, for they're all but guaranteed to be in the final 24 months on this big blue marble, whereas Ali, who knows. And SirC can name a good 20 people that meet that simple criteria. Add a few real old people and/or folks from this year's DL, and there probably aren't 10 slots left. Is Ali one of the 10 most likely people on earth to die by Dec 2016? SC will get back to you Dec 31, he may know more at that time. But if nothing new arises, Sir Creep may have a tough time answering 'yes' to that. SC

    The Dead Of 2015

The UN says that at least 96 people had been killed since the start of election-related unrest in April. Unidentified attackers have shot and killed Burundi’s former army chief of staff in the second high-profile killing this month, amid chaos linked to the disputed re-election of President Pierre Nkurunziza. Colonel Jean Bikomagu was shot dead outside his home in the capital Bujumbura in the morning as he returned from church, said a witness who declined to give his name. A former Burundian security chief and close ally of Nkurunziza was killed in early August. SC

    World War II Veterans

Oh he's 'over 100' and a minor 'political' figure, but basically no one for those threads. But I found THIS interesting as hell! "A memorial service will be held Sunday, Aug. 25, for John Victor Beahrs, a longtime Palo Alto resident who saw frontline action in the Pacific during World War II and served on the Palo Alto City Council during the tumultuous 1960s-1970s. Beahrs died July 23 at age 100, leaving behind a large family whose members helped him celebrate his 100th birthday last Oct. 19.... ...During World War II he served in Naval intelligence and amphibious forces of the Pacific Fleet, including serving as beachmaster in the assault landings on Okinawa and Iwo Jima, for which he received a commendation. wow! well done sir. RIP SC

    Joost Van Der Westhuizen

Hoping about 5-6 more of those months and he makes the starting gate for 2016 teams He will easily stride into 2016. Of course I thought similarly of guitarist Jeff Golub, who's name I reluctantly used in one DP, and damned if he didn't die January 1st to kick off my year (and frankly his year) rightly.SC Out of interest, are you in the DDP? Apologies if thats been asked before, mind like a sieve. No I was new here. Definitely give her a go 2016. Assuming one of Givens or Scott was your joker on the team, that No Heartbeat Needed team would be about joint 10th currently. If I had a joker in that DP it most certainly would have been Givens (in fact Bianchi or Simon would've been challenging for Joker, Stuart Scott's quick exodus was unexpected). The team I turned in for Shawn's new DP wouldn't be too far afield from one I'd turn in Jan 2016, but we still have 4-1/2 months of headlines and head scratchers. So it's in constant flux.SC

A longtime Vermont legislator has passed away. William "Bill" Aswad served 18 years in the State Legislature representing Burlington's North End. He was also chair of Burlington's Planning Commission for more than a decade. According to his obituary in the Burlington Free Press, the World War II veteran died Thursday at a senior living community in Shelburne. He was 93.
