Probably both names are correct. Al-Takriti is the clan name, which Saddam Hussein (abd al-Majid al-Tikriti) also belonged to. Al-Hassan is some descended family, or maybe the father's name was Hassan. That's precisely how the name game works in the Middle East. "Al-" means "Son of" (or just OF I guess) for the sake of argument. No different than the Norse (Lief ERICson) or even a fine Scotch-Irish "Mac/Mc".SC I'm pretty sure "Al" means "the"."Son" would be "ibn" or "bin", I believe. There may well be regional or secular differences as well. IBN (unless it's ibin a separate word) means 'I am', as in 'ibn Arab' or I am Arabic. But I don't profess to know all the differences. I think you are right about 'bin'. SC

Frightening news coming from German thrash veterans Tankard. Drummer Olaf Zissel has been admitted to the hospital after suffering a possible stroke. Tankard have put over 30 years into their craft, 21 of which have featured Zissel manning the kit for the German beer lovers. A total of 16 studio albums have been released by Tankard, with 2014′s R.I.B. acting the the group’s most recent effort. SC http://loudwire.com/tankard-olaf-zissel-hospitalized-potential-stroke/

Any chance in hell (pun, yay) that you folks have ever seen one of our evangelical delights, Jack Van Impe? https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jack_Van_Impe(Google his image you'd know in a heartbeat (pun #2 yay) He's a piece of work and I once did some land surveying of his corporate parking lot (lol true). I suspect the answer is no but I'd guess he's obit easily in USA sources. He's a health disaster and has really aged the past few years on his daily telecasts, and just had triple-bypass surgery. Hard to think he'd see 2017. 2016 May be a push. SC

Thousand Foot Krutch is requesting prayer for bassist Joel Bruyere, who is in the hospital with a collapsed lung. The torn lung needs surgery, but the doctors are unable to perform surgery until the lung improves. In the meantime, Joel is in the hospital and fans are invited to pray for healing. This is part of what has been a rough summer for TFK, who lost their merch manager Montana Billings a few weeks ago. The news of Joel's hospitalization broke the same day as Montana's memorial service. ------ Get a load of this guy's picture! Mohawk skinhead looks like bassist more for the Misfits than Christian Rock band. SC http://www.newreleasetoday.com/news_detail.php?newsid=954

The world big-screen premiere of "Glory Game: The Joost van der Westhuizen Story" will hit the big screen this month (August). The film tracks Joost van der Westhuizen as he battles the effects of Motor Neuron Disease (MND), a debilitating disease that strikes down scores of healthy adults every year, many of them athletes. It's a very intimate portrayal, which also focuses on the global effort to find a cure, and Joost's campaign to provide better treatment in SA. Directed and produced by award-winning journalist and film-maker, Odette Schwegler, and co-produced by Michael Yelseth and John Webb, the premiere took place at Montecasino, north of Johannesburg on 12 August 2015. This falls under 'not quite'. A Pennsylvania beauty queen has been jailed on accusations of faking cancer, an elaborate scheme that led to her benefiting from thousands of dollars of donation money. Brandi Lee Weaver-Gates, a 23-year-old reigning Miss Pennsylvania U.S. International, was arraigned Tuesday on charges of theft by deception and receiving stolen property. Weaver-Gates led everyone to believe she had been diagnosed with chronic lymphocytic leukemia in March 2013.The young woman went so far as to shave her head and have family members drive her to Johns Hopkins Hospital for treatment. Various fundraisers were held in an attempt to capitalize on her lie, the latest of which was held in April and raised $14,000.

Yeah it was April this year actually: http://www.deathlist.net/forums/index.php?showtopic=8164&p=224461. I thought I'd looked at most threads in the Forum, good spot. I remembered WAY too much about her LOL. I coulda cured sickle cell anemia with that brain cell but chose to horde info on Lisa Simon instead. Yes, Y-Dub, I went back a ways on these threads and pulled a couple out. When I saw this one it was just a matter of time. SC

Former Missouri state Rep. Jo Ann Emerson, CEO of the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association, suffered a brain hemorrhage and had surgery while vacationing with her family in Italy. She is in stable condition, according to her former congressional chief of staff Jordan Bernstein. Emerson is a Republican who represented Missouri's 8th congressional district before resigning shortly after winning re-election in 2012. SC

At least Montt has a release date. Something to cling on to. First and foremost, that historic verdict and accompanying 80-year prison sentence were overturned just 10 days later, purportedly due to errors in process. And in fact Montt was released! From the psychiatric hospital at least. SC

Looks like Montt's new council is getting things done! Efrain Rios Montt was released from a psychiatric hospital Tuesday, after undergoing seven days of tests that effectively delayed his retrial for charges of genocide and crimes against humanity. Attorney Jaime Hernandez, who is part of Rios Montt’s defense team, confirmed that psychiatrists had finished their assessment of the 89-year-old retired-general and submitted their final report to the Public Ministry, about one week earlier than planned. The court must now wait until Aug 18 when it will hear testimony from the doctors who examined Rios Montt and the ministry to determine whether he is physically and mentally fit to face the severe charges. Excellent! A 5-year hiatus we shall not have here in DL! Dr. Bob Frankford, retired General Practitioner, former Ontario NDP MPP, Social Democrat and Activist died in Toronto on his 76th birthday on August 1, 2015. Says donations can be made to sickle cell anemia foundations, so let's make the obvious assumption re: cause of death. Anyway, sorry to hear you're gone, Dr. Bob, but thanks for helping us break through on this thread. (PS, didn't some lady from Sesame Street die on her birthday last year, I forgot her name, she was like 60 yrs old) SirC

August 14, quite the prolific date for death anniversaries! Aye, Duncan I of Scotland: 975 years 8/14/1040 Admiral David Farragut - 145 years (1st Admiral of the US Navy, famous for the phrase "Damn the torpedoes, full speed ahead!") Michael McGivney - 125 years ago (Founded the Knights of Columbus) Herbert Putnam - 60 years (Librarian of Congress and founder of storied publishing house) Dorothy Stratton - 35 years ago (murdered Playboy model, subject of 'Star 80') I have the original copy of her centerfold issue. Gotta be worth something. I mean besides a look-see once and again. SirC Edit: And she's a little easier on the eyes than Ms. F.Nightengale, all due respect.

Yeah, me too. But I usually just click on the threads I'm interested in (usually about 5) and after I'm done with that, I mark the rest as read. Also, back when I lived in Poland, I had this glitch that wouldn't allow me to access the forums for sometimes as much as 4-5 days! For some reason, it worked all the time at my grandparents' house, and I visited them almost every Saturday, so that's when I would catch up on the 100-150 unread threads. I think I'd have become a link on this page if I opened up DL and saw 150 unread threads. SC

I say he dies before I finish typing this respon.... oh never mind. SC

another possibility to lose next year. Kissinger has had plenty of health issues, heart-related no less, and of import, they are RECENT issues. Taking him off the list would be a coup d'état for the Reaper to leave the DL down a 'hit'. Don't do it! SC

I honestly don't know. I'm not sitting on the fence. I really don't know. Most arguments are against it, and I can SAY I'd say no, but in the end am I going to be selfish for even an extra hour of life if I can get it? Most likely. I just don't know. SC

Not mentioned yet, but it's the 800 lb gorilla: Isn't this going to go down as a bad 'miss' for 2015? I say yes. Carter may not have been in the worst health on 1-1-2015, but he should absolutely be in Dole's slot, among a few other questionable names. Anyway, when he goes, I'll let that conversation commence in the appropriate thread. SC

Dont' they take away shoelaces and belts and sharp objects in Chilean jails? SC Edit: OK after actually looking at link, WTF was he doing at his HOUSE???

No wonder I couldn't find it. I remember there was originally a thread titled "Animal Antics" Aye, that thread is on extra curricular. I was looking in the wrong place then. I didn't know we had separate threads, I've always stuck all animal related posts in Antics. Thanks for the heads up SC

Hold on. Can we back up a moment? It doesn't appear we are talking Quatermass the band. No one has even HEARD of Quatermass except YT (I have their first album--vinyl tyvm), so this thread is terribly intriguing even though the title I don't understand as pertains to content. Looks like there's a book by that name? I don't know it. Alls anyone needs to know is Quatermass were rather useless trio, but the bass player Gustafson ended up playing with Roxy and that's his memorable bass line on Love Is The Drug, and they wrote 'Black Sheep of the Family' which became a hit for Rainbow (I think it was). There's all I know about Quatermass the band, not the book. SC

Gack!!! I hate when I'm away from DL for about 24 hours.....sign back on and I have 20 threads that have been updated not including all the extra-curricular stuff. Aaarrrgghh! SirC
