    Ex-Pope Benedict Versus Prince Philip

Dumbest thread on DL site. It deserves this, the worst comment. SC
  2. Convinced that only in the UK does the media--or local denizens--glorify the homeless (we choose to ignore them altogether, which may be a fundamental problem, but as for the media is exactly as it should be), I am posting a random U.S. entry. I'm entitling it: Black Men Can't Swim (save the comments). The shocking part of this story is how it begins with two homeless fellows drinking early in the morning. Glad I was sitting down when I read that. SC http://www.myfoxny.com/story/29408272/homeless-man-dies-after-being-pushed-into-new-york-river

    Old Folkies Home

Sad news. Here's Fairport Convention on STV with Flowers of the Forest: https://youtu.be/GH0UC1J8IIU Yes rather melancholy. I have some Richard Thompson solo stuff, that's as close to the Fairport Convention as I've ever gotten I dare say. RIP SC

    How Long Until We're Dickless?

Two-way player Dick Kirk, who had one of the most memorable touchdown runs in school history, died last Tuesday at his home in Fort Lauderdale. He was 72. A three-year letterwinner (1963-65), Kirk will always have a place in UF lore thanks to his 42-yard touchdown run at Alabama in 1963 that sparked the Gators’ to a 10-6 upset win over the heavily favored Tide and quarterback Joe Namath. I should win something for finding a Dick that went both ways. SC http://m.gatorsports.com/article/20150614/articles/150619841 Couldn't find the video of said run on YouTube.

    Shadow Lists

I predict that your fifth hit will be don rickles the man is in his late 80s, overweight and looks really frail I'm going to disagree. I've had my eye on Rickles, who I chose two years ago. Every time I think he is a possibility he pops up on TV and seems mentally together. He does NOT look frail for a man of his age, he simply looks his age. I think there are 50 better picks for 2016 unless we hear some news pushing him onto that list securely. SC

    Plane, Train And Automobile Crashes

"The BBC's Alice Budisatrijo in Jakarta says that only the tail of the aircraft is still recognisable; the rest has been reduced to debris." Those folks live in bamboo huts... And it struck a hotel to boot. Ugh...nothing good coming of that. Talk about an efficient slaughter, Damn near sounds intentional, which I would never have suggested but for a particular German co-pilot recently. SC

Magic Johnson, And Other Basketball Players

Former NBA player Jackson Vroman, who led Iowa State to the 2004 NIT semifinals, died Monday from injuries sustained in a car accident. He was 34 years old. He was a second-round draft pick of the Bulls in 2004 but spent the 2004-05 season with the Suns and the following season with the New Orleans Hornets. Animal Antics

At least 9 of the 500+ highly endangered Asiatic tigers have washed up on the banks of the local river which flooded--as expected--this monsoon season. Sounds like the argument for keeping them in a single sanctuary just went to hell; and if the humans continue to do so, so shall they. An outpouring of flower tributes, canned tuna and visitors have filled a Japanese train station after a beloved railway employee – a cat called Tama – died. The 16-year-old former stray turned station master was made a railway official eight years ago, and was credited for saving the Wakayama Electric Railway company's finances because her popularity brought thousands of tourists, the BBC reports. 28 Years Of The Deathlist!

Of no interest in the UK, like the events discussed above, I recall vividly when the Space Shuttle Challenger exploded wiping out a crew and that teacher who had little business on it, as her students and 1000s of others watched live. Anyway I worked as groundskeeper for an apartment complex at the time -- 22 yrs old I think --along with 5-6 other males. We were all silent and stunned and just gutted, and after listening and watching updates we were sent home. Not sure the ragging on Princess Di. WTF does someone have to do to get respect around here? It hit the TV ticker about 9pm EST in the States and I stared at the TV knowing nothing particularly new would come of it (though the immediate reports made it sound she was alive but messed up), and didn't shut it off till 4am. You may recall Mother Teresa died within a day or two and no one noticed cuz it was all Di all the time on the news. I was 3 when MLK died. We move from Detroit to Pittsburgh the year before the Detroit Riots so I missed that first hand. Sept 11 is a story to itself. Nutshell: My wife at the time worked in the 26th floor of the most visible office tower in Detroit overlooking Canada. I called her and told her get the fuck outta there now! Drove past the airport to/from work the next couple weeks and no air traffic was eerie and creepy. SC

So .. What Do You Watch On TV?

Don't fahkin laugh; last week my daughter saw a MLP complete collection DVD in Walmart $5 bin (she's 4) so I took it to the cashier who said it's $10. So after buying it I'm now subject to one episode after another. SirC

    Lemmy From Motörhead

Dream gig DDT. My mates and I - who like a few beers and a loud band - attempt to see every tour by both of those. We - kind of - adopted The Stranglers after Lemmy's health problems cut Motorhead's touring schedule and took them away from the kind of toilet venues we frequent. I'm envious of you getting those two, on one bill, in that venue. It was a great night out. This was the fourth time I've seen Motorhead over a period of about 20 years and, whatever Lemmy's health problems may be, it hasn't altered the band's on stage presence in the slightest. They were just as good as ever. The gig was actually outdoors, adjacent to the domes, rather than inside them, which was probably for the best. I'm not really a Stranglers fan, but I enjoyed their set as well, although, rather disturbingly, a middle aged lady in the crowd appeared to drink an entire bottle of neat gin and passed out right in front of me before the fun had really started. I thought it was a piece of performance art until the St John's Ambulance crew showed up. We met loads of old friends we hadn't seen for ages and ended up at an all night party on Bodmin Moor, which was still going strong when we left at 9am I'm envious DDT. Though I do have a two day ticket for this year's Ramblin' Man which is wall to wall with metal and prog oldsters - Saxon, Blue Oyster Cult, Greg Allman, Camel, Marillion and Ian Anderson. Seasick Steve is also on there. MFC that's an incredible lineup! Would I could attend, even if they'll be shades of the original members. Side note: Saxon's drummer had a heart attack or something late last year, so glad to see he's back at it and keep an eye on him. SC

yes will not be the same without him "It’s with the heaviest of hearts and unbearable sadness that we must inform you of the passing of our dear friend and Yes co-founder, Chris Squire. Chris peacefully passed away LAST NIGHT in Phoenix Arizona, in the arms of his loving wife Scotty." Accordingly, he died on my birthday. Just fucking great. Well, get to amend my post in that extra-curricular thread. Entwistle also died on my birthday I case any of you are thinking of beating Sir Creep on bass players dying on your birthday. SirC
