  4. I never downvoted it (iirc) until the final point. Had it been flirting with the top spot I’d have come after it for the reason I stated; to wit, it may not have belonged in the competition at all. But since it was kept at bay enough by others I just voted elsewhere.

  8. 21/12/23 9:35pm 22 The Pogues ft. Kirsty MacColl — Fairytale Of New York +4 00 The Pretenders — 2000 Miles -1 FTR mentioning the word ‘Christmas’ in your lyrics does not a Christmas song make. Everyone owned Learning to Crawl and I never listened to it and thought ‘oh isn’t that a lovely Christmas song’. Fine song though. Great album. I voted the Pogues all along cuz I enjoy it. Is it the best Christmas song? Unlikely. The old classics are but y’all voted them off one by one. Also FTR I admit it’s obtuse but my favourite song of the season is Sleigh Ride - but just the instrumental version by the Boston Pops Orchestra. Words were never a part of the Leroy Anderson composition and I find them unnecessary (apologies to The Ronettes and Johnny Mathis.)

Did we REALLY go back in time and reboot the AWFUL cascading discussions? You can’t be serious. Nothing happens in a vacuum; where was the groundswell of support for that stupidity. Christ sake it’s a PITA to ware through the pages as it is, so let’s e long are them exponentially!

New Here And Just Saying Hello

@AstroKat as the official DL greeter, allow me to welcome you aboard. As you’ve probably been lurking, you have the general idea how things go around here. I only ask you pause 6 months before starting any new threads. Thanks. Otherwise have a grand old time and don’t beat up Greg Lake too much lol.

    Derby Dead Pool 2023

Lol ok I don’t pay heaps of attention, but I perused the List of the Lost and found TWO of MY unique theme entries! I never knew they died. How in Fekkin Hell did Karl-Erik Eriksson not QO? He’s participated in more Winter Olympics than anyone! Smh as usual SirC has no clue what passes the QO test in the UK. Never have, never will. So far the head coach of the British Olympic equestrian team, the First Man of Belgium (also a professional footballer), and a guy who was in 6 Olympiads did not get obits. As for Ruth Adler Schnee, one of those pesky Nazi camp survivors, she was a pioneering woman in textile arts, and got a New York Times obit. If she was a man who designed a building she would have QO’d, but she’s just a mere woman. Granted, it’ll always seem silly to me that the NYTimes isn’t used for QO purposes.

  18. I don’t make pre-list rankings but I thought there were about 8 really good songs on the list at the start, and almost all made the top 10 and three were the top 3 so absolutely no complaints. Lovefool was a bit eccentric and plunky in its composition and I thought its popularity would keep it around a while but its eccentricity would eventually be its doom, the absence of which comes as a surprise. Black Velvet is full of soul and deserved better, not sure why it got beat up early on. And The Sign really should have been top 5 but oh well, history and sales says it was, that’s good enough; like Kris Kross, if you just don’t like hip hop you’ll vote it down, and I can see that with Ace of Base’s faux reggae beat as well. In the end a pleasingly palatable top 3 and overall result.
  19. Well damn give me a minute EDIT - done!! Thanks @Death Impends
  20. I would like to thank the committee for doing what needed done. This song is fucking awful. Glad I didn’t have waste time efforting its demise. Again, I thank you all.

  23. An interesting collection, interesting in that your side of The Pond listened to different songs than the left side. The ones at the top (presently) should all be there. The others I don’t even know without listening to them, and I’m an old fuck. Pepe? A Voice in the Wilderness? Dead Norwegians

But I thought socialists were given all that up front. It’s a utopia. Sweden and all the rest. You answered why AMERICA needs unions, not Norway.
