Updating for Dame Vera Lynn, songstress, national icon, oxygen thief and White Cliffs lover. 169 Points to entertain the troops for markb4, Joey Russ, The Quim Reaper; msc; Prophet; JoeMoneyPenny; Torva Messor; Yorkshire Banker; Etib80; The Old Crem (doubled for WILDCARD); Toast; Great Uncle Bulgaria; Grim Up North; Sean. Close it, close it, close it, close it....

The Casino will be playing Vera Lynn through the loudspeakers all day. While she is not the first to fall pre-game, players who picked her should report to their Inbox in Reception.
-
Willie Nelson. It's an intimate wrestling move and a music icon, only fair he should follow Vezza.
-
Ah but isn't it also Paul McCartney's birthday today? So we still have institutions......
-
A mere 7 hits with Vera Lynn's death.
-
Marking time here as also had Vera in my list here. As everyone else did I assume. YW - 7; DL - 10
-
And again - Vera Lynn makes it 23 hits for me, 23 straight BBC Obits.
-
I had her too - my first hit, though rather fewer points - had her in 20th position!
-
YES! A miss for me!
-
July 21st. Again!

The Forces Sweetheart beats no more. Nobody who had a top ten hit in 1952, the first year of the UK Chart, lives.

I think they compared him with Biden who, when he was the same age as Trump is now, bounded up and down the same ramp like a mountain goat. Look, there's more truth in comedy you can get across to folk than a dry news report, even if that comedy is a bit obvious at times. Truth is Trump is a shambling hot mess, sometimes forgetting he's accompanied by his wife, suggesting folk might want to consider injecting bleach, suggesting there is an AIDS vaccine, tear gassing folk so he can go for a walk, etc etc. Leader of the free world and commander in chief. Friend to despots and enemy to former allies. But he's incredibly fit (he says), a stable genius (he says), everyone lies about him (he says) etc etc and there's still enough folk out there who believe in him like they believe in Jesus and the archangels. And why was he at that hospital in November? Anyway, who knows what they see in him?

I cannot find a damn thing on Itzhak Okev. All I do know is that on the night he was extreme right as you look at the performance. Unbelievable, given the rabid nature of Eurovision folk. Someone must have a coffee table tome out there, but the internet lets me down. Done. Next!
-
1. It's a ramp. He's not walking, he's shuffling like a bride up an aisle. 2. The drinking bit is funny at the end. I put it up so folk could see what was being talked about in the thread if they hadn't seen it. I do think there's more context in other parts of the show - let's face it, before these shows could even comment (being off the air all weekend) Trump had already made a fool of himself by claiming the ramp was slippery (on a very hot dry day) and that he'd run the last ten feet (two little steps at the end). Nobody makes a fool out of Trump more than Trump himself. The late nighters just have to try and pick up the scraps of comedy he leaves at his arse.

Alphabeta (Israel) Now it's amazing what you can find on the Internet. So here is a report on the craziness surrounding the 1978 Eurovision from April 1978. https://leiden.courant.nu/issue/LLC/1978-04-24/edition/0/page/7 Now, you don't need to know the language to work out the following ages at that time: Nehama Shutan: 24 (b. 1953/54) Esther Zuberli: 22 (b. 1955/56) Lisa Gold: 22 (b. 1955/56) Izhar Cohen: 27 All I got so far, I'll keep looking.

You are just a star Handy! The internet isn't everything!

Just take the world az iz!

I may have misled myself and in turn you! Had a look at the Song For Europe and the final in Paris and they all seem to be there! Forget my nonsense, who on earth am I thinking of? Somebody had subs on in Eurovision! It's quite clear Brennan's vocal on the call-repeat phrase jars in the final! So only Brennan as promo I'd say.
-
I'd probably go with "Promotional Member" as you've done with others. I mean there's another two who did the actual performance at Eurovision replacing two of the band but aren't on the record. (Can of worms...)

Clout Part 2 Hmmm. Lee Tomlinson appears to have been Ilene or Eileen du Preez, who then became Lee Conrad and later Lee Tomlinson: http://www.rock.co.za/files/sa_amazons.html Now this may suggest she was born even earlier than 1953 - could she really have been a vocalist in a band at 11? Probably knocked a few years off! But who knows. I think we can rule out 1958 and 1963 for her!
-
Clout. None of the girls played instruments on the track - their places were taken by an all male session band called Circus! http://www.rock.co.za/files/clout_index.html In any event I have found a promo which indicates as follows: Glenda Hyam: b. Johannesburg, 8 April 1955 Ingi Herbst: b. Johannesburg, 26 January 1957 Jenni Garson: b. Johannesburg, 30 January 1957 Lee Tomlinson: b. Johannesburg - difficult to read but I think it says 29 August 1963. It might also be 1953 or indeed 1958! I can't zoom in clearly enough!
-
Co-Co. A lot of the information you are missing is here: https://www.comedykings.co.uk/index.php/1978-gene-pitney-tour/ Scroll down to the Co-Co entry. No sign of Charlie Brennan? I'll have another hunt around. Nup - was he really an official member of the band anyway?

Colorado (Italy) Definitely not the Scottish band! So the deal with this one was to look up the arranger Joe Malbo. Which turns out to be an alias of this guy, Pinuccio Pirazzoli. Who is definitely most certainly the guy playing the guitar on the TOTP clip! I think we can safely say there were 4 session singers there for dressing. I just can't get a good enough resolution on the album to read the bottom which might have given us a clue as to the identity of these people. Disco California Dreamin'? My ears, they bleed!
