    Deathlist On The Net

The famous French are having a hard time of it this year so far. It's not unreasonable that when their names are appearing here, they comment upon it. Plus ça change, plus c'est la même chose.

    British Science Fiction Series

Paul Bettany's father was Thane Bettany, a former dancer turned actor, who portrayed Tarak in the Doctor Who story State Of Decay. He was 86. I can't find a direct link to his death, but Paul Bettany mentions it in this article from 31 December 2015: http://news.streetroots.org/2015/12/31/paul-bettany-homelessness-who-am-i-judge Quote: "My father died recently. He was a very religious man. Whenever we passed a homeless person, he would always say, there but for the grace of God go I. And I love that sentiment. It’s an admission of how close we all are to slipping by the wayside." Edit: This article from The Indy on 30 November 2015 indicates that Thane Bettany had just died. http://www.independent.co.uk/arts-entertainment/films/features/paul-bettany-on-shelter-and-why-his-directorial-debut-is-about-homelessness-not-hollywood-a6754976.html

Likely to get an obit on the BBC as he was the man who was embroiled in the Elf Aquaitaine scandal & very well known in France. Also had a role in the IOC. In good health though. Hans Klenk b. 1919 d. 2009 Eric Thompson b. 1919 d. 2015 Andre Simon b. 1920 d. 2012 Tony Crook b. 1920 d. 2014 Tony Gaze DFC AOM b. 1920 d. 2013 Les Leston b. 1920 d. 2012 Kenneth McAlpine OBE b. 1920 Member of McAlpine construction family & Connaught racing. This would be broadsheet only, kinda news in brief etc. Was in good health a few years back, but I haven't heard much of him last few years Lloyd Ruby b. 1928 d. 2009 Hans Herrmann b. 1928 Obit possible due to relative fame in his day. But, despite overweight, another in fine health. Sir Stirling Moss b.1929 Perhaps the most famous living driver, obit certain. Has had prostate cancer, but recovered. A little frailer than before as a result, but I don't see him going just yet, too active. Guy Ligier b. 1930 d. 2015

To be fair it is not just the BBC. Jeffrey Segal is missing everywhere. Jeffrey Segal's death (undated) mentioned in the Summer Edition of Equity Magazine (this may have been mentioned before) but I have a link to it now: https://www.equity.org.uk/documents/equity-magazine-summer-2015/ Page 16, In Memoriam.

    Grange Hill

Sadly, no information on when he died, but Michael Percival who played Mr Mitchell, the very first form teacher of Tucker, Benny, Justin, Trisha et al died sometime between 1 May and 9 November 2015. His death is mentioned in the In Memoriam section of the Winter edition of Equity Magazine (page 16) available here. https://www.equity.org.uk/documents/equity-magazine-winter-2015/ Might be worth checking names mentioned there in case we missed anyone else. I was alerted to this by his mention in the Doctor Who In Memoriam video I posted on the British Science Fiction thread. I really liked his character who left at the end of Series 2 I believe. I'm so disappointed that there appears to be zero coverage of his passing elsewhere, however it may be that the family wanted that.

    Derby Dead Pool 2016

Yes, it did, I've rejected a few names as a result of the obituary qualifications, though you will find most of the rejects on other pools where the requirements are different. Won't matter though, I'd like to see me get a few hits this year though to compensate for my wooden spoon.

    "biggest" Death Of 2015?

What, no Cilla?????????!!!!!!!!!! He he. I've voted for Lil' Chris. In a world of social media, with his followers looking on and doing precisely nothing, with the music biz and TV chewed him up and spat him out (nothing new there) and all his showbiz pals having deserted him, but in actual fact through social media watching his slide into depression and finally suicide, it goes to prove that you can still be watched, listened to but ultimately ignored and die lonely and miserable. Social media for all its faults could have been a force for good, leading to an intervention. That such did not happen and the lack of education and understanding the majority have of mental health issues (which if people don't understand they naturally shy away from) is a sad indictment on common compassion and humanity which, I believe, coincidentally is being eroded as we speak, as more people use their electronic devices to communicate with each other, rather than their mouths.
