Thought I'd update Octopus of Odstock's list posted on 22 February 2006. There are still some survivors and I've left in the original comments for the survivors. All info taken from Wiki, corrections from those more knowledgeable appreciated. Paul Pietsch b. 1911 d. 2012 Emmanuel de Graffenried b. 1914 d. 2007 Paul Frere b. 1917 d. 2008 Robert Manzon b. 1917 d. 2015 John Fitch b. 1917 d. 2012 Tony Rolt b. 1918 d. 2008 Andre Guelfi b. 1919 Another man whose fame is greater than his GP career - just one racer. Likely to get an obit on the BBC as he was the man who was embroiled in the Elf Aquaitaine scandal & very well known in France. Also had a role in the IOC. In good health though. Hans Klenk b. 1919 d. 2009 Eric Thompson b. 1919 d. 2015 Andre Simon b. 1920 d. 2012 Tony Crook b. 1920 d. 2014 Tony Gaze DFC AOM b. 1920 d. 2013 Les Leston b. 1920 d. 2012 Kenneth McAlpine OBE b. 1920 Member of McAlpine construction family & Connaught racing. Obit assured, health is, again, solid. Roy Salvadori b. 1922 d. 2012 Leslie Marr Bt. b. 1922 More famous as an artist. Definite obit, of which racing would be a small mention. No known health scares, but a little more frail recently. Jose Froilan Gonzalez b. 1922 d. 2013 Carroll Shelby b. 1923 d. 2012 Roberto Mieres b. 1924 d. 2012 Maria Teresa de Fillippis b. 1926 de Fillippis ... due to her being the first woman in F1. Sir Jack Brabham b. 1926 d. 2014 Phil Hill b. 1927 d. 2008 John Rhodes b. 1927 Might well get an obit due to being a legend in club racing. This would be broadsheet only, kinda news in brief etc. Was in good health a few years back, but I haven't heard much of him last few years Lloyd Ruby b. 1928 d. 2009 Hans Herrmann b. 1928 Obit possible due to relative fame in his day. But, despite overweight, another in fine health. Sir Stirling Moss b.1929 Perhaps the most famous living driver, obit certain. Has had prostate cancer, but recovered. A little frailer than before as a result, but I don't see him going just yet, too active. Guy Ligier b. 1930 d. 2015

Cheers for the views. As I recall I didn't mention a specific British actors thread, was thinking of something more general which would include stagey types who have never seen the inside of TV or film studio, and that would include behind the scenes folk (set designers, theatre patrons etc etc), likewise with more general threads you catch a lot of TV producers and directors and the like who make an incredible contribution to our culture. Anyway, I'll get my usual shoehorn out where I can and leave it for now. Glad it's spurred some discussion.

DL Status Updates: Statements, Obsevations & Verbal Tennis
YoungWillz replied to Lord Fellatio Nelson's topic in DeathList extra-curricular
Had a small episode this evening with a slight chest pain. Given my history, Dad rushed me off to the hospital, but I think I rather overdid it with the magic "spray under the tongue" and passed out, rather than it being anything more serious. Discharged myself (which was probably unwise, but hey, I know what a real heart attack feels like), fine now. Egads! -
^^All good points, Toast. I don't know the history of the forum, so it may have changed over time; the sub-title of being too lazy to find a thread puts me off posting there if I can possibly avoid it. Plus you can't discuss their death elsewhere if there is nowhere else to discuss it, so the Dead of 2015 becomes cluttered for a while and if another death goes through, it can be lost in the discussion of a previous death. I'm not intending to start threads if they can be avoided. If there's a place the death can be put in existing threads, I'm all for it. No doubt the point might arise again if there's another similar Terry Sue Patt incident. Given the first couple of series of Grange Hill concentrated on the stories of Benny and Trisha (not Tucker, though he was essential), it seems a pity there is no natural reference point for either (and many others who didn't go on to bigger or more widely known things), whether that be a show thread (which I'm willing to start if you'd prefer) or a more general thread. I'm only using that show as an example. Also, I'll say again - we have Hollywood and Broadway but no natural repository for UK theatre or British film. Seems odd not to have them.

"It's wonderful to be back, isn't it, Ronnie? Ronnie? Wake up, we're on Ron....Oh MY GOD!"
-
Wasn't looking for it, just didn't know it existed. Saw a few series of The Bill, but it lost its appeal for me somewhere along the line. And fond as I am of lists, that's one show I'm not even going to start on ha ha! I'm still keen on a couple more generic threads though, if the opportunity arises I'll see how it goes down. Up to the gang.

Aha! Found The Bill thread! http://www.deathlist.net/forums/index.php?showtopic=8105&p=110767 Now, we wait for Sue Tully and see where she goes first....
-
When Terry Sue Patt died, there wasn't a Grange Hill thread (or at least one that I was aware of) and many of the actors from Grange Hill ended up in shows like Eastenders, The Bill or Casualty, so there would be a lot of crossover posts for those. Indeed. There's a "The Bill" thread? I'll give you another: the girl who played Trisha Yates wasn't really in anything but Grange Hill and Tucker's Luck. If she were to die, where's she going to go? And we had Nigel Terry, esteemed actor this year - on to Dead of 2015 he went. I'm just indicating there are a couple of glaring gaps, but I don't want to open threads up unnecessarily, unless the gang think there's a real call for them.

In answer to DJL, I'm afraid I can't as I used to be a practitioner in Scotland, where (only just) corroboration is required. Much misunderstood, such corroboration can come from many sources (physical evidence, statements made shortly after the event, similar accusations by others, etc etc). And even with such a rule we lock up more people per head of population than many other countries who have different systems or a lesser "one word against the other" standard. Sentencing is again for each system, I guess there is the usual bias which seems to be inherent (and I'm not saying it's right or not) that the fairer sex must commit crimes because of societal issues they may have rather than being inherently bad and gain a lot more latitude, than men who are assumed to commit crimes because they are inherently bad rather than because of societal issues. (I'm not going back to my Jurisprudence class in any more detail, gad that was a drag!). Thus women tend to get lighter sentences than men, regardless. Obviously there may be other matters which the court hears which the press don't report, simply because reporters tend not to understand the weight that a court attaches to a point in sentencing and in any event the blackest picture sells the more copy. There you go, I'll say it - the legal system is sexist and is reported on badly, regardless of where you are from. Otherwise, not been of much help here at all.
