Who Stays in 25 - Kill or Save Special

Yeah famously last year slowed down significantly and only had, *check notes*, six more hits yet to come. There’s absolutely no way to know for sure how many hits will come. It could be 0. But it also could be 10. This isn’t me making a prediction, it’s just me saying that knowing for certain how the trajectory of a list will go is completely preposterous. I mean if people asked us in mid January how the list would end up looking few people would claim it would go as badly as it did at this point.

    42. Raul Castro

After the death of Fidel Castro, his brother, and current president of Cuba, Raul Castro, probably doesn't have that long in him (about 3-5 years I'm guessing). I think he is famous enough for his own thread, because he is the last major figure in the Cuban Revolution and he is the president of Cuba. All of that, plus being related to Fidel Castro, pretty much guarantees a BBC obit. Do you think he is famous enough for deathlist? Discuss.

    U.S Election

I’m gonna be honest, I really think Dobbs have genuinely fucked up republicans in a way that no other political decision have. Before Dobbs happened, I feel like a lot of people probably viewed abortion as merely a campaign tactic and not something actually at risk. But now that it happened? A lot of people are genuinely pissed. That is why (even though I still think Trump ekes out a victory in Iowa) the Selzer poll is probably on the right track. I think people are done with putting up with Republicans, at least for the near future. The economy genuinely isn’t as bad as people claim, and while media hasn’t been spending as much time as they should on it, Trump has declined. I’m sorry, but he really did. I want to be very clear that Trump definitely has a chance but if all the early indications are trending like I think they are, Republicans aren’t gonna have a good night. His campaign in 2016 and his campaign in 2024 are extremely different in how well run they are. If Trump wins, it’s not gonna be because of anything he did right, this country just became a giant right wing shithole. But I think people are underestimating the chances of Kamala winning this fairly easily.

Honestly if they were to drop one of the ill health folk I think this would be the pick to drop. Seems too stable for a cancer patient and honestly kinda dull
  9. Yes, I know, everyone knows by now that the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is a big joke and not something to be taken seriously (like the Oscars nowadays). However, since I'm feeling bored and have nothing else to do at the moment, I thought it would be interesting to predict who might get inducted into this bullshit hall of fame this year and who probably won't make it this year. The list of this year's nominees are: Bon Jovi Kate Bush The Cars Depeche Mode Dire Straits Eurythmics The J Geils Band Judas Priest LL Cool J MC5 The Meters The Moody Blues Radiohead Rage Against The Machine Rufus featuring Chaka Khan Nina Simone Sister Rosetta Tharpe Link Wray The Zombies Immediately, Radiohead comes into my head as a shoo in this year due to their massive critical acclaim and name recognition, but considering what the Hall of Fame inducts for the most part, which other artists will likely join Radiohead into the museum.

Bobbie Gentry is a country singer who’s best known song is Ode To Billie Joe. Hasn’t have a lot of info recently, but I felt like she needed a thread anyways...

As dead as this year has been you’re assuming that this year can’t have a span where a bunch of names become hits. In fact that already happened this year, at the very beginning of the year.

    Tim Johnson

I’m actually not so sure. I know they seem to be a bit more hesitant on putting people on the list who got famous after about 2005 or so lately, so I don’t know if a Taylor Swift type figure would ever top the list or even make it on.

Man what a huge huge miss for the Deathlist. Can’t believe they didn’t think about picking him after 2007. Whoever he was

    Thoughts On The 2024 List

Tbh I think we were extremely overdue for a lackluster year. The last time the list went into single digits was back in 2011 which was well over a decade ago. And, I honestly don’t think there were too many potential replacement candidates for the list (obviously I think people like Doherty or James Earl Jones could’ve but that only would’ve somewhat added to the tally, the list would probably still be lackluster). Even the crowdsourced list is only at 10 hits and usually they include candidates that are somewhat more fringey relative to the Deathlist standard of fame
