So I thought I'd do an internet recce on a couple of the shows up there I'd never heard of on that list.

One of them was apparently quite big in the UK in the late 90s - Sunset Beach. The entire shows in on YouTube.... I've suffered watched the first episode out of curiousity; so far

Spoilers btw, as if anyone would be daft enough to watch this.

    •  The lead character has abandoned her wedding and hopped on a plane after discovering her boyfriend was two timing her.
    • She's hopped on that plane on the basis of "if you ever want someone to talk to I'm here" which she's interpreted as stalk me and move to my town".
    • He definitely didn't mean move to my town, but her internet connection cuts off when he tells her so.
    • One of the lead characters has been defrauding her dad for months and he's found out by hiring a private investigator to check if she really was at law school.
    • Whilst defrauding her dad she's been holding massive parties, and of course her dad gets to meet the cop she "had" round the night before whilst bollocking her.
    • She chooses to seek the advise of a nymphomaniac aunt on this matter, who is about as much as use as a chocolate fireplace.
    • A load of nonsense clap-trap about whoever you meet on the beach at sun-down is who they're destined to spend their life with based on the guy who first owned the beach and his misses.
    • An insufferable git got promoted, and his wife's first thought now she's not his working partner is "he might have an affair"
    • A street kid just gets gifted a house by a kind stranger to squat in with no explanation of where the keys from (kind stranger doesn't own the house).
    • The lead character's had her bag stolen and then whilst trying to get it back endings up falling off the pier into the river in a dramatic fashion..
    • The lifeguards attempt to rescue her by diving off the very top of the life tower into water (surely high enough for the "feels like concrete? to kick in"
    • Nobody can act, there place in the show seemingly being decided on how good they look in a pair of beach shorts or a bikini.
    • The dialogue consists of almost exclusively "do something" and "snipey one liners" that fall flat....

We're 45 minutes in. And people say the UK soaps are sensationalist? Like, seriously who was the target audience for this?

Apparently there was one in the UK anyway because Channel 5 tried to save the show when it got cancelled, it was rating that well?

This show ran for 755 episodes. and worryingly i'm kind of intrigued to see what nonsense exactly they fill them with.. Even El Dorado seemed to have more thought behind it (although poorer and end result) than this.

Apparently half the cast of Corrie at the time loved it as well.

Making it a requirement that picks must have a Wikipedia page COMPLETELY changes the rules of the game and isn’t a suitable solution.

Also @Spade_Cooley, I do believe £400 would be an achievable goal for a fundraiser and I do also believe such a change would drastically reduce the stress of running the game. Could also put a donation advert on the homepage of the site for the meantime. I’d pledge 20 loonies along with Pedro’s British coin to get it rolling and I do I would assume there’s be many others who are also willing as well.

Maybe for those who have no English Wiki entry a link has to be provided with details about the person including their age. Could be a newspaper article or a specialist website talking about list of people.

  3. Mine is in my signature. It's not very good - lots of people who are just old and also too many hard to judge dementia cases.

Paul Flynn the Mp is hard to judge  - he plans to quit Parliament this year but is saying it's only severe arthritis which may not be fatal - through some evidence points to being something more fatal.

I do think through the 1966 England squad could see 3 or 4 go within a few months once the next one goes.

I don't doubt it, which is why I picked her as well.  Very hard to get a unique pick with potential these days.

Maybe a rule that all unique picks have to have their profile written by the submitter - with new shared picks decided by a random draw.

Or someone put in charge of the theme league for example.

  5. Gillian Taylforth (Kathy in Eastenders) might be on a medical break  - been on a suspicious break on screen since early November. Kathy said she was going on Holiday in a short scene  but has not been seen and I don't think been mentioned since. Clearly not supposed to have been on the square unseen over christmas and no reports of her having upcoming scenes.
