O.J. Simpson: Run Out Of Juice?

Watching the TV coverage of Simpson's death and I was surprised to find out that Ron Goldman's father, Fred, was still alive, I never realised how young Ron actually was.

My Nan has owned this 'woke' reverseable scrabble board for as long as I can remember, she got it when my sister and I were very young so that we could play. I can't wait to tell her that all her efforts reading the Daily Mail have been in vain as she is now woke and hates Britain.

    What are you drinking?

I'm house sitting for my Nan again and this time she's left me a bottle of champagne and a roast beef dinner. I'm pretty sure this is the first time I've actually had champagne and I don't get what the big deal is.

    Ideas and possibilities for 2025

Here's a few lesser mentioned names to consider. Michael D. Higgins (b.1941) - The current President of Ireland has been in and out of hospital quite frequently in the past few years, has been having mobility issues as of late, looks older in every new picture of him, will be retiring next year. Alan Rothwell (b.1937) - I was watching an interview with him from 10 years ago and he looked awful then, I can't imagine how he looks now. Has been retired for 5 years. Try Sutrisno (b.1935) - Rumoured dead in hospital towards the end of 2022, looks awful. Rowena Cooper (b.1935) - Retired from onscreen acting last decade, hasn't done any voice work recently, lost her husband of just shy of 60 years in 2023. Barbara Knox (b. 1933) - Her role as Rita in Corrie has been massively scaled back in the past year, very slow on her feet nowadays and is looking quite thin. Quentin Blake (b.1932) - Wasn't looking the best in his 2021 BBC special and hasn't been seen much since.

I like the fact that in this hypothetical scenario Jimmy's death isn't being treated like his wife's was, instead he's getting the same treatment as paedo presenter Rolf Harris.

    Seen Any Good Films Lately?

I've just watched Scoop on Netflix, the new film about the Prince Andrew interview. It was fine, well directed but Billie Piper as the lead character is just a bit boring, she puts in a fine enough performance but there was nothing for me to connect to. It also felt weirdly sympathetic towards Andrew at points and I don't know if that was intentional. There's a solid ten-fifteen minutes of just recreating the actual interview which is near perfect but at that point you might as well just watch the real thing, in fact that probably applies to the entire film, just watch the original news-night special instead.

In case you haven't guessed yet, there's a new sheriff in town, after messaging MSC earlier today we've agreed that I'll be taking over the Crowdsourced Deathlist, with MSC still planning on publishing the full list of picks later on in the year, I'll be doing everything else from now on, including running next years.

    The 2024 Crowdsourced Deathlist

As Dead as I Once Was 4/50 5th February 2024 Country icon Toby Keith has died aged 62 from stomach cancer. Keith’s career in country music started in 1993 when he released his first, self-titled, album that reached no.17 on the US country charts, with his single ‘Should’ve been a Cowboy’ reaching no.1 on the country charts and going 3 times platinum. In 2002 his seventh studio album ‘Unleashed’ became his first no.1 album on the regular US Billboard charts, a feat he achieved a further 3 times throughout his career. On the US country charts, in total Keith achieved 20 no.1 singles and 9 no.1 albums. A multi-talented man, he sometimes ventured into acting, opened his own chain of restaurants called ‘Toby Keith's I Love This Bar & Grill’ and was a staunch supporter of the US Republican Party. In 2022 Keith announced that he had been diagnosed with stomach cancer towards the end of the previous year and was undergoing treatment. Following his passing for the disease in February, Keith has been posthumously inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame. He was making his first appearance on the Crowdsourced Deathlist, at no.28.

    The 2024 Crowdsourced Deathlist

A Place in the Ground 3/50 2nd February 2024 Longtime TV presenter Jonnie Irwin has died aged 50 after a 4 year long battle with cancer. Irwin’s TV career started in 2004 when he landed the role of co-presenter on Channel 4’s A Place in the Sun and filmed 100s of episodes for the programme until he was fired in 2021, he claims that they had sacked him due to his illness. His other most well known presenting gig was on BBC’s Escape to the Country, which he worked on starting in 2010. In 2020 Irwin was diagnosed with lung cancer and reportedly was given 6 months to live. In 2022 he went public with this information, reiterating that he hasn’t got long left. However to every deathlisters delight he continued to confound the odds and spent every waking moment talking to the press about how he wasn’t going to see Christmas (he never said which one). At the end of January he spent a week in hospital and was sent home on the 27th, where he died the following week. He was making his second appearance on the Crowdsourced deathlist, this year at no.10.

    The 2024 Crowdsourced Deathlist

Dead Kaiser 2/50 7th January 2024 Franz ‘der Kaiser’ Beckenbauer, who has died aged 78, was often cited as one of the greatest footballers of all time. Aged 14 he was signed for the Bayern Munich youth team and was eventually promoted to the main team in 1964. The same year he was signed to the West German national team’s youth squad and was quickly promoted to the main team in 1965. He played as a central midfielder in the 1966 World Cup final against England, a match that England famously won. In the 1970 quarter-finals, Beckenbauer was one of three German players to score and beat the England squad, however West Germany was knocked out by Italy in the semis and placed 3rd, beating Uruguay in the play off. By 1974 he was the captain of the national team and led his country into the World Cup, where they beat the Netherlands 2-1 in the final. He hung up his boots in 1983 and began managing the national team the following year, a role he held until 1990. In the lead up to the 2006 World Cup he helped Germany’s successful bid to host, which caused him to be investigated for fraud in 2016. Throughout 2023 reports of his failing health circulated that lasted up until his death. He was making his first appearance on the Crowdsourced Deathlist, at no.25.

    The 2024 Crowdsourced Deathlist

Put an end to her Suffering-gette 1/50 4th January 2024 Oscar nominated actress Glynis Johns died just under two months after turning 100. Best remembered for her role in Disney’s classic film ‘Mary Poppins’ in which she portrayed suffragette Winifred Banks, the mother of the central family, Johns’ career spanned across seven decades and earned her many awards and nominations. She won her first award in 1942 for Michael Powell’s ‘49th Parallel’, was nominated for best supporting actress at the 33rd Academy Awards for her role in The Sundowners (but lost to Shirley Jones), won a Tony Award in 1973 for Stephen Sondheim’s ‘A Little Night Music’ and in 1998 was granted Disney Legend status alongside Poppins co-star Dick van Dyke. Johns’ last appeared on stage in 1998 and onscreen in 1999, retiring from acting aged 76. In recent years most conversations about Johns haven’t revolved around her long career, rather they have focused on her longevity. She outlived all four of her husbands by 14 to 46 years and one of her children. In 2020 she became the oldest living Academy Award nominee for acting. She turned 100 in October 2023, with many calling for her to receive a damehood for her services to acting, something which alas was unable to happen. She was making her 8th appearance on the Crowdsourced Deathlist, this year at no.3.

You genuinely might be the first person in history to call Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson and Kevin Hart some of the world's greatest actors. That's probably the worst opinion shared in this thread so far.

For anyone who has been following what's going on with Lorna Laidlaw, in tonight's episode of Coronation Street her character Aggie has quit her job, left her husband and won't be returning despite her onscreen reason for being absent no longer applying, with all of this being conveyed through other characters, it's now been about a year since she would have done any filming for the show and hasn't been heard from since.

To defend TQR on this, getting people to define terms like those is important when trying to understand their viewpoint, level of understanding and how to respond. Even simple things like left or right wing get thrown around as buzzwords with very little meaning nowadays. People like Joe Biden often get called a socialist, and I can guarantee that 99.99999% of people who say that do not know what Socialism actually is and are just repeating what they have been told.

I didn't enjoy the Kenobi show, it's clear that it was a film stretched into a 6 part mini-series. When it comes to Reva my main issue was that the twist regarding her character just made no sense and sent the whole show down a different trajectory, however I will admit there were parts in which I didn't like Moses Ingram's performance, but that could be down to directing, writing or maybe she wasn't right for the role. I wouldn't want to call her a bad actor, as I've literally never seen her in anything else, but the fact that she has multiple upcoming projects shows that maybe it was outside influences. I agree that something doesn't deserve praise for diversity alone but it is still something that you can point out and whilst I didn't like Ingram as Reva I thought that Indira Varma was good in her role, Sung Kang was brilliant as one of the inquisitors and I always enjoy Jimmy Smits performance as Bail Organa. If you didn't notice the diversity, that's a good thing, it means it felt natural. I seen have Boyega express dissatisfaction with his experience but not because he thinks he was hired for diversity but because his character wasn't given as much focus in TLJ and TROS and he feels that this was because Disney was too afraid of any potential backlash from having a black main character. There's surprisingly a lot to unpack in this small number of words but I need to go to bed soon so I'll just say that I don't see the issue in pointing out overlooked mistakes and flaws of the past.

    1. Churchill IS an important figure in this country, he was still a racist. But like I said before it doesn't mean that he can't be celebrated, but by saying 'who cares' you are participating in historical revisionism just as much as those who focus entirely on that. Churchill had long career and lived a long life, he was like all a flawed person and you shouldn't ignore that just because he is a national hero as at that point you are dehumanising him and turning him into a godlike figure. 2. Our standards aren't new, Haiti abolished slavery in 1804 whilst many famous Americans continued to own slaves. What I'm trying to say is that people knew that these things were bad at the time and yet other people continued to do them because they're not perfect. 3. I agree that statues and the like shouldn't be destroyed, however I don't think that certain people should be memorialised, but it's really a case by case situation. To go back to Churchill, whilst he held questionable beliefs, he lead the UK in the fight against fascism and deserves to be memorialised, in comparison Edward Colston was a slave trader and is remembered as such and doesn't deserve a statue in public in the 2020s, don't erase the man from the history books but don't celebrate him. 4. I think every citizen of a country has the right to point out the flaws in it's systems, past and present. I'm English, I think the colonialism of the British empire was bad but I also think that we fought against Hitler in WWII and that's a good thing. You can find a balance and saying that you'll hate your country for recognising mistakes of the past is an insane thing to think and potentially shows that you've been blinded by nationalism. 5. Napoleon is a figure that I don't think should be praised for many reasons, slavery is just one but I won't go into that here. You just seem to have a very polarised view of the world where people can't be human and make mistakes, they are either good or bad.
