    Suicidal Celebs

I agree it's hard to predict but - hell - are we afraid of a l'al bit graft or summat? There has to be the intelligence and experience around here to make the odd good guess. Manic depressive + comedian for example is a recipie for disaster. Depressive + under appreciated jobbing cricketer who might just get an obit is also another promising combination. Bear in mind the point about those like Doherty who commit a kind of half-suicide by pushing reckless behaviour beyond its limits. Can't say I can see a certainty comin' for 2007 but such a spot leading to a good pick would be immensely satisfying compared to picking the old and infirm.

Hein I should've guessed from your intelligence and peristence you were a footy fan. Feyenoord, a team with some European pedigree, respect.

You know what, it'd be really ironic if Lady C's own thread replaced that of her hero as the - sort of - DL common room.

Being serious for a second; Fallujah, the Hidden Massacre. 27 minutes of anti-American view of Iraq war.

    Suicidal Celebs

There are pockets of high suicide, including GPs and dentists, NHS ones in particular being likely to end it that way. Farmers don't talk much about problems and often see themselves off in isolation hanging in a barn or similar. The odd thing is that people working around the above, AI men, nurses etc, don't share such suicidal tendencies. Amongst other unlikely suicidal types are cricketers, especially the lesser known ones. There's a book called 'Silence of the Heart' about cricket suicides. Professional sports in general, however, is fairly low on suicide.

    Most Obsessive Deathlisters

That's an impressive number - 3333 - yer sporting yerself there Tempus, no wonder yer old nemesis - Iain - waded in with puerile jealous fury earlier tonight. Go well Re the obsessives, I notice Lady C averaging a mighty 11.7 posts per day at present. What a gal, eh?

    Suicidal Celebs

Death by suicide is marginally more common amongst those in the public eye, especially entertainment related, than the public as a whole. Kurt Cobain, Tony Hancock B S Johnson etc. All depressed, misunderstood and unsatisified even when things went their way. Doesn't make every celeb a likely topper but there's a few contenders. Especially if we get a little inside info. If we put the work in, we'll find 'em. On the fringes we have the wilful reckless endangerment crowd, the likes of Pete Doherty and Gazza. Even if they don't set out one night to die they're stupid enough to damage themselves on a permanent basis, like George Best.

    Funereal Music

That's solid research IE, I think the result is skewed because it only counts the songs requested. The most popular music of all will be one of a number of stock classics or hymns but since these are either held on CD in the crematoria and/or played by the organist they were outside this survey. The cliched oldsters probably go that route rather than raiding their CD collections, assuming they have CD collections.

There's love in the room Windsor, I can feel it! Many thanks but I'm not giving up running the multi-national conglomerate this month.

Aye, fair enough BHB, it is for such rewards the dedicated fan stays dedicated. Good on yers, decent manager, cash on't way. A sleeping giant almost awake now. I'll bet David O'Leary is ecstatic.

    Suicidal Celebs

I take yer point Geromino but the point of the thread is to pool expertise and try to isolate the real depressives from the hissy fit gone too far mongers. Frank Bruno, sleeping in a boxing ring outside his mansion if I recall. I'm guessing he'll never be totally alright and Gazza, allowed to gamble hopelessly a few weeks ago. That wasn't attention seeking, that was a man totally out of touch with reality. Bear in mind some celebs are desperately trying to get affection they lack in human relationships, for such people the top isn't lonely, it's a dose of reality so stark they may never feel positive about life again, or summat. Their despair, our greatest hope of good points from a youthful death.

    Funereal Music

One album into his career that's a hell of an achievement for James Blunt. I wonder how many people sit there at funerals envying the dead who've gone somewhere away from endless plays of 'You'er Beautiful' on the radio.

Melly was white last time I looked. Has he coughed up the contents of his lungs and coated his pasty skin a new colour?

The fairly low money thing is relative I'll admit Tempus, ask a guy at Border TV in Carlisle and they'd laugh at BBC complaints. On the other hand, you seldom meet a cameraperson who thinks they're paid well enough for the contribution they make. I think it's summat to do with hanging out with the likes of Clarkson and Hammon who command colassal cash comparitively speaking. Re Influx, it's a hell of start. I hope JC churns out some more.

Given the tonnage of TOGS in the country I'm clearly in the minority but I can't stand the guy. Not that I watch Countdown anyway, so it'd make no difference.

I've been to the Guinea Pig Club museum at the hospital in East Grinstead where the work was done. A very strange and memorable place. Sir Archibald was a man well ahead of his time. IMHO.

    Richard Hammond

I thought originally it might be safe because the BBC pay better than other organisations for support staff on television and also the accident enquiry has snagged the film. However, given the press coverage since the accident suggesting some of those filming Top Gear and others behind the scenes had serious safety worries it did strike me as possible that there'd be a leak, if only to shame the bosses into tightening up. I'm guessing that a few of the camera operators, stuck in the rain on fairly low money, probably worry about an out of control car hitting them enough to leak some footage that shows the presenters in a poor light.

Simply letting the cameras loose in the place isn't so far fetched. Hell, Channel 5 plan to screen live childbirth next week, including a 'natural' drug-free jobbie. One of the most hideous things you can see on film is childbirth played backwards, just thought I'd mention that.

    Football

F*****g unlucky. We made up over quarter of the crowd. Hit the bar, had one cleared off the line and saw them score when two parried shots broke to their strike pair. Oh aye, and after Hawley went off with injured ribs the final insult came in the last minute when a 25 yard free kick banged off our wall into the net and gifted one of their strikers the match ball and a hat-trick. In other words we weren't four goals worse than them. The biggest worry is that injured hitman - Karl 'goal machine' Hawley - is yet to sign a new contract. Might leave for Championship football in the transfer window and net us precious little cash when he does.

The average age of one of my teams is - like - 105 or thereabouts, I've high hopes that squad will be down to nine in October.
