  1. Can I  mention that 'died by suicide' is  rather irksome too.

I know it's not the done thing to say , committed suicide' these days as that dates back to when suicide was a crime but 'died by suicide' sounds ridiculous.

I'd never heard of that. Some disasters get forgotten quickly - it'll be the 49th anniversary of the Clarkston Toll disaster in October and despite having passed through the street it happened on, I only found out about it a few years ago.

I hadn't heard of that one either. It makes for grim reading.

Freelance journalist Seb Patrick, who wrote for loads of places, died of a heart attack on Sunday night. I recognised his name from When Saturday Comes, but he also wrote for The GuardianEmpire, Den of Geek and was the social media manager for Red Dwarf.

I was friends with him on Livejournal back in the day, nice guy, huge shock.

Two painters have always stood out for me, Claude Monet with his waterlilies and Wassily Kandinsky:

Claude Monet Japanese Bridge Original | Claude Monet - Japanese ...

Wassily Kandinsky - 193 Artworks, Bio & Shows on Artsy

I love Kandinsky as well. I also like Chagal, Klimt, and maybe a bit predictably I like the pre- Raphaelites.

I don't know  whether it's because I have a long face, but I've always been rather fond of Modigliani's work.

Well if this is the way the thread has gone, I'll bring up my all time fave TV talking head bit as I don't think Gooseberry has heard it.

Right, so Judi Dench has turned 70, and Channel 4 or 5 or someone I forget had this big 2 hour celebration of Judi Dench documentary on. And they had all these luvvies talking up her braveness as a performer, and her gravitas and all that stuff. Suddenly on screen appears Brian Blessed who booms: "Judi Dench is the SEXIEST WOMAN I'VE EVER MET! And she stills drives me WILD WITH LUST! What a woman!"

I remember seeing that too. In fact it's usually what I first think of whenever I see Judi Dench on anything.

  6. Two of my grandparents were adopted , my dad's mum and my mum's dad so there a lot of unknowns.

    Those I do know

Mum - currently still here aged 80

Dad - died earlier this year aged 90

Maternal grandparents, maternal grandfather died before  I was born aged 68 from throat cancer, maternal grandmother died aged 91 from pleurisy.

Paternal grandparents - paternal gd died aged 85 and paternal gm aged 81 both from pneumonia.

great grandparents - no clue on my dad's side. On my mum's a real mix, her dad was adopted but we do know who his parents were. His mum died aged 30 about a year after giving birth and his dad died aged 25 in the Boer war. Maternal nan's dad also died fairly young aged 45 of heart disease but her mum lived until her 80s.

After that the only ones I know about are my maternal nan's maternal grandparents. Ggm died aged 53 apparently from a laudanum overdose, her husband died aged 75 don't the cause.

In addition all my nan's siblings bar one lived at least until their 80s.

So it's a real mixed bag for me.

I no longer visit Mumsnet frequently, but I recall that there seemed to be a lot of women on there who fancy him rotten.

One of them had the username "Bendydick Cuminsnatch".

They're an embarrassing lot on there - some behave like kids who have just discovered sex.

I can't help but read his name as Cucumberpatch.  He does nothing for me, btw, so I won't be found there doing press-ups, as the old joke goes.

He does nothing for me either. He looks how I imagine an alien would. I would have been at Manchester University the same time he was there though I doubt we would have moved in the same circles.

Dame Diana Rigg is 82 today.

  8. Two JFK conspiracy theorists die and go to heaven.

They finally ask God to once and for all settle for them who it was that killed JFK. God sighs and patiently and lovingly admonishes them,

"You've spent so much of your lives chasing after this conspiracy. You've sacrificed time with your families, allowed yourselves to be overcome by paranoia. You've wasted so much of the time and energy that I gave you. Oswald killed Kennedy. He was acting on his own and all of the evidence you needed to satisfy yourselves of that was there the whole time, if only you had looked with open hearts and minds."

The one conspiracy theorist turns to the other and whispers, "This goes higher than we thought."

Godot, I think, was in his mid 50s when around in the late 00's. He is/was a journalist but I'm not sure of his real name. Journos don't always have long lifespans...

I am sure I recollect a very minor DLr dying as I thought a family member posted it. This would be aeons ago but my memory is not what it was.

Are you thinking of DeathList Observer? His 'son' comes on to tell us he died but I don't thin any of us believed him.

I have a vague recollection of that too. I think they posted a lot for a short amount of time then suddenly stopped.

@Lard Bazaar Carol Anne is still around on Facebook.

Stereotyping I know, but knowing that Glasgow 80s scene it's likely either drugs or suicide. A shame, she/they were a nice little band,  like a less upwardly mobile Primitives. Saw them support JAMC in the searched-for-knives-on-the-door days.

Heart attack I think I read somewhere, though that could have been caused by drugs.
