Unless she seriously defies odds and makes it to 2014 it looks like this'll be a miss for my Muppet Show theme team

This is an amusing one given his current condition: "I chew coca leaves every morning, and look at me!"

From what I'm hearing so far about the meeting Maduro is suggesting that Chavez got the cancer from his enemies

    Political Frailty

"An unspecified illness"... ah yes, the ol' "ex-dictator doesn't want jail time" disease.

    Sam Simon

Good find regarding Simon. He'll definitely get the obit, the Simpsons are so iconic that anyone with a major enough role will.

    Political Frailty

Report on Twitter that former Taioseach Albert Reynolds is gravely ill. No news articles, but the account reporting seems to closely follow Irish goings on.

Obit for Franklin, and Reuters UK picked up the news as well. If I did the math right I think that puts me at 2nd place.

    The Dead Of 2013

I think in terms of drawing parallels with Cliburn I'd call him the music equivalent of the Miracle on Ice US hockey team rather than of Solzhenitsyn. Both Cliburn and the hockey team were in competitions where the Soviets very much had the upper hand but both defied the odds and prevailed over the Soviets.

    The Dead Of 2013

Crazy, I had a dream where Cliburn died last night... Mickey Rooney and Jack Pardee also died in said dream and there was convo on DL about how Jaruzelski was now the last alive from DL98.

    Hooroo, Mate.

He was diagnosed last october so by now he's either recovering or on the brink of death I would imagine They are doing a special television interview with him tomorrow night looking over his career, so I'd say things aren't too good. He looks fairly haggard on the ad for it. It looks like the folks that picked him for DDP will be seeing if he nets the obit or not pretty soon - he has days to live.

    Yank Science Fiction Series

He's definitely dead by now, it's moreso that no one knows when he died. There's a lot of IMDb names like that, including ones born decades before Evans. Seems like the Evans active in 1991 was a different one as well in spite of TCM's listing.

    Yank Science Fiction Series

Well, if we're going to get into scriptwriters for campy science fiction movies, then we can't neglect the last few living writers from the gloriously campy era of 1950s B-movie sci-fi, legendary cheesemakers like 95 year old Ib Melchior (The Angry Red Planet), 88 year old Robert Gurney Jr. (Invasion of the Saucer Men, Terror from the Year 5000), and 90 year old Bert I. Gordon (Attack of the Puppet People, The Amazing Colossal Man). I saw a very brief snippet of The Angry Red Planet on TV last year; even without seeing much its cheesiness was still evident by the whole screen being tinted red to signify Mars being the setting.
