Noooooo ..... TyPhoo is my favourite. The main supermarkets rarely stock it now so I get it from the likes of Home Bargains.

That's a ridiculous thing to say. Nobody hates the NHS. We hate what successive governments have done to it. I made a point of saying that the ward staff are overworked. And the word 'on' is superfluous in the quoted sentence. Note how I haven't used it.

Post your favourite tipples here. I have recently got into the habit of mixing a nightly cocktail. Currently enjoying a Bakewell Tart Sour Brandy, amaretto, cherry syrup, fresh lemon juice, angostura bitters Awesome.

Or the meal is just left in front of the patient who isn''t physically able to feed him/herself. The staff are too busy to sit down and help them. I've known people with a relative in hospital who have gone in at mealtimes expressly to feed their relative becasue they can't manage without help..

That would be an excellent prank.

1984, you haven't included Garry Roberts of the Boomtown Rats. He died in 2022.

Not been doing cocktails so much lately, but finally got hold of a bottle of Calvados which allowed me to try this. Honeymoon Calvados, Benedictine, lemon juice, Orange Curacao Gorgeous sweet-sour citrussy treat. I didn't have a lemon so subbed in lime juice, and Triple Sec for the curacao. Added a couple of drops of orange bitters.

Yes, it is. One near me closed down, and was demolished along with the adjoining shops. The whole block was rebuilt - now includes a nice shiny Lidl - and lo and behold, a Homebase appeared in the precise spot where it died before. I never went in there much. It used to be quite good when Sainsburys owned it, albeit on the expensive side, but at least it was well stocked with proper DIY stuff. But with the changes of ownership it lost its way.

I may be wrong, but isn't 25 the maximum number of names that the committee can carry over to the following year? They can ditch more than 25 if they wish?

Perhaps it's the "bizarre and tasteless decoration theme". We need to see photos!

Even with palliative care there can be other stuff going on. My mum was sedated with morphine as usual on the last day of her life, and she was very distressed, thrashing about violently in her sleep. The nurse came and gave her another dose and she settled. It was a fatal dose - that happens all the time but nobody talks about it.

I've argued this before. This was the most effective line in the song. It hit home because deep down people were thankful it wasn't them. And it forced us to admit it. Bono delivered it perfectly. It's not patronising, it's almost accusatory. This was the line that had us emptying our wallets. It was brilliant.

So .. What Do You Watch On TV?

I finally got around to watching Edge Of Darkness. I'd bought the DVD on Ebay for a couple of quid and it's been resting in a drawer for months. Excellent stuff, and despite being nearly 40 years old, surprisingly topical. -
Cottrell came and spoke at our parish church once, when he was Bishop of Reading. I forget what the occasion was (I am not a believer and only go to special services like Harvest Festival - nostalgia really) but he was rather good fun as I recall.

Agree with Biblio. Look at the quick downturn suffered by Janey Godley. A fall could finish off any of them.
