I'm not sure if there is a dedicated thread for victims of crime, so I'm posting this here. Valerie Storie died on 26 March. She was one of the victims of James Hanratty, who was hanged for the murder of her boyfriend in 1961. Valerie survived being shot several times, but was left paralysed from the chest down. A grim business all round.

Been To Any Good Gigs Lately?

She is on my wannasee list. Glad to hear she's still killing it. -
Hmmm... Uses lift instead of taking stairs for the first time: http://www.independent.co.uk/news/people/queens-speech-2016-elizabeth-parliament-lift-stairs-a7035836.html So would most 90 year olds. Hell, so would most people 20 years younger.

Might be the odd general death though. And some private deaths too. -
The Marc Almond thread was started many years ago when he was seriously injured in a RTA. The Andy Bell thread is also years old.
-
His former partner died about four years ago. He married a guy called Steve Moss a couple of years ago. AFAIK he's still alive.
-
Pop along and see him then. http://www.marcalmond.co.uk/live/index.html Hmm bijou venues or a toehold on a bigger bill driven by nostalgia. Has it really come to the point that his career and that of T'Pau amount to almost the same thing? Bijou venues like the Royal Festival Hall? Marc has appeared at one or two of the Rewind festivals every year since they began, I think. This year he has said he won't be doing any more though, and will just be doing his own tours in future. Just by observation btw, I would say that Marc is very much more popular at Rewind than Carol Decker.

She was wondering why her love horoscope said no more sex after May 16th... If she lived anywhere near me that love horoscope woulda been wrong :-0 SirC What exactly are you suggesting, sir? -
Not at all, she would just need someone to assist by reading out the clues and going "it's 5 letters, blank blank L blank R". It requires more mental exercise than with the visuals for sure, but people adapt.

I agree with you. We didn't have that terminology when I was at school. At secondary level we were first year or first form etc. But it was confined to school use. Outside of school, people used the kids' AGES to describe them. Nowadays I have no clue what age "Year Six" means. I think you have to add five to the year number to give the age they will turn during that academic year. So for example year six pupils will have their 11th birthday and year eight pupils will have their 13th. 1-2 Primary school. 3-6 Junior school. 7-13 Senior school. (Or whatever they call 'em these days.) Add five. [makes note] Thanks, Cat. I never went to a junior school, just a primary school to the age of 11. Maybe it's a rural v urban thing. I still don't understand why people can't just say the ages. If you're talking about seven-year-olds, why not say that instead of translating into school talk. It's probably a parent thing where their whole lives seem to revolve around the school.

Everyone's been watching the Eurovision Song Contest. (I haven't. I'm watching Bruce Springsteen live in Barcelona via Periscope) -
No thanks! Stadium gigs are bad enough as it is. I like to feel as though I'm at least in the same county as the band. And getting away at the end would be horrific.
-
I rarely let that put me off. If I want to go and nobody else does, sod 'em. I missed out on too much when I was younger because of that.
-
I dunno, I was never a fan. I just looked them up when I saw them on the Rewind line-up, to see if they were a "Trigger's Broom" band, but there are still some members who were in the band in the 70s/80s.

I don't hear it as derisory - I think she seemed genuinely pleased. The same with the Tesco voucher this week. The Queen has a reputation for being quite frugal, so it seems she has a firm grasp on the value of money and enjoys a little windfall as much as the rest of us. Oh don't get me wrong, I think she enjoys the thrill of winning as much as the next monarch, I'm just curious what HM is going to find to spend £50 on in Tesco. Buck Pal refused to comment on who will actually spend the money. She might use it to buy her Christmas presents. Apparently the family custom is to give each other silly presents that only cost a couple of quid.

Errol Brown never rejoined Hot Chocolate when they reformed in the early 1990s. HC were on at the Rewind Festival last year and I was quite amused to overhear some women saying "He's still looking good". Oops. This is Kennie Simon, the current lead singer. http://www.hot-chocolate.co.uk/kennie-simon.html

Am I the only one who thought this would go on to say "Your boys took a hell of a beating"

As regards Sainsburys (for it is they), I was amused to see that the advert referred to their "employees". Don't they mean "colleagues"? Those "colleague announcements" really irritate me. They mean staff. Sainsburys is not a cooperative, and shouldn't pretend to be. -
Considering the lifestyle and amount of smoke in the air in jazz clubs back in the day it's amazing how many old jazzers see their eighties and beyond Nice.

Well found, Cat! Lovely to see that again. It was the 1991 Derby, so 25 years ago! She was positively gleeful, wasn't she.
-
I love that! It reminds me of a documentary about the Queen, years ago, and they showed her in the Royal Box on Derby Day. The occupants have a £1 sweepstake on the Derby every year, and on this occasion the Queen won. She was really chuffed. . "How much do I win?" she asked. "Sixteen pounds, ma'am." And she smirked into the camera, it was so funny to see.

Betty Driver Memorial Soapstar Superstar Thread
Toast replied to M Busby Airlines's topic in DeathList Forum
Ah, Hollyoaks and Brookside. The two biggest piles of soap shit ever invented, even El Dorado was better than those two steaming piles of utter cockspaff. <cough>Triangle</cough> Oh yes, that really was crap. They made up a ridiculous scenario of a woman travelling back and forth for months so that her dog didn't have to go into quarantine. There are lots of people who travel regularly on ferries, I used to myself, so it would have been easy enough to include some regular faces among the passengers without going to such implausible lengths. -
The idea has its attractions, but it wouldn't stop people from starting threads about, say, moribund nonagenarians who have just come to their attention. I don't see the point of starting a thread about someone who is just about to fall off the perch either. There's always a suitable generic thread.
