So, How's Your 2016 Shortlist Looking?
Spade_Cooley replied to Spade_Cooley's topic in DeathList extra-curricular
Did spend around five minutes researching the current health of a guy who was diagnosed with a brain tumour earlier this year before realising I was looking at the Facebook page of a completely different guy with the same name who also has cancer. I don't think firemen from Ohio will get a qualifying obit. -
Also, would you say that Lou Duva or Kamala are "deathlist-y" picks?
-
I think I might make Glynis Johns my #1 pick because I'd completely forgotten she was still alive.
-
Problem is that it's not just Brave Inspirational Cancer Battlers who message to have their details removed... who was that opera tenor who complained to the DDP a few years back and insisted T-Mib add a line to his bio saying that he did not have cancer and wasn't dying?

How sick exactly? Very sick. At least he doesn't have to worry about those questions any more.

As expected, the first 2016-friendly Sadhana obit comes from the Daily Mail.

Stunning work YW. -
Nine hours ago, if you're in the US Delhi is between nine and a half and 13 and a half hours in front of you. You do the math(s).

Elizabeth Laird, the "Hug Lady" of Fort Worth who embraced US soldiers before they went off to rape Vietnamese/Afghan/Iraqi kids, dead at 83. Refuse to believe I'm the only one who has had to scrub her name off the 2016 'definites' list.
-
No he's just pleased to see you.

Exactly. It's OK to share information on those who are significantly ill and knowledge of this is widespread in the papers (everyone will pick Allan Wells in 2016 because of the recent news), but nobody would be foolish enough to share obscure or unique picks.
-
Having said that, Clive James is probably going to fall down the staircase tonight and render all this irrelevant.

As Alex Ferguson once said: "Deadpooling, bloody hell"

You know, I always found the Party Pooper bonus to be utterly ridiculous, but now that Sadhana has died on Christmas Day.... Seven plus five plus 86 equals 98. Just waiting for that obit to roll through now....

Sadhana Shivdasani, the "Audrey Hepburn of Bollywood", has died aged 74. Further discussion on her tragic passing will be found in this thread.

Britain's Got Talent final 10 contestants. -
Jake Roeper of VSauce3 has a terminal sarcoma, could be a good test to see if 157,000 YouTube subscribers is enough to get you a Daily Mail obit.

So during the year, I slowly realized that research is necessary to be good at this. The first time I realized that was when I wondered "Who the fuck is Lauren Hill?" And the second time was when I saw that the news of Percy Sledge's cancer benefit dated back to July 2014. So I knew that I need to have some kind of database all throughout the year, which I then started in April, when my paper list got too chaotic, on Excel. Now the race is on to get 1000 names before Dec 31st, I am at 989 now. But I will be away for the next couple of days which will leave me with 2-3 days to get 11 more names, plus the last research on the people that are currently on my teams. However, 108 people of these 989 are already dead, so maybe that milestone doesn't really count. I have a Google Doc, an Evernote and a Moleskine page to note illnesses or anything of note down wherever I am, and I'm still sure I've missed 100% certs that have been mentioned here or irl.

Got a rudimentary 20 together but nowhere near happy enough with it. Feel like there's a distinct lack of Inspirational Cancer Battlers in the press these days, maybe the Mail has finally got fed up with them? -
I remember when researching for the 2015 DDP there was some Twitter rumours about him being in really poor health and unable to give any interviews or make media appearances. Dunno what that proves though.
