So, How's Your 2015 Shortlist Looking?

The Living End will be back next year with a half decent team . When I finish outside the top ten ,I get all competitive again. I've said it before, it's what the fans want, a year where DQSP and The Living End go head to head fighting for the title. The modern legend and the GOAT going heads-up against each other, Michael van Gerwen vs Phil Taylor of deadpooling. Except I'm not autistic and you're not a convicted sex offender. -
Ricky Tomlinson could be a good outside bet, he has a Quadruple Heart by Pass a few years ago, is Overweight, is 76 next year, also didn't his son die a few years ago as well. Unlikely to die next year but one to keep an eye on. They're probably all going to live through 2015 while Craig Cash and Sue Johnston get merked by ISIS now.

Well, there's clearly a progression level within DDP teams throughout the ages. First it was finding celebrities who were actually old, then celebrities who were actually ill, then people who were insanely old but not necessarily celebrities, then people who were "famous for being ill", then the relatives of celebrities, and now we're in an age where there are so many pages and megabytes for media organisations to fill that we probably have more obituaries then ever before, so it's almost a case of not predicting who will die this year, but predicting who that'll die this year will get a mention in at least one newspaper. My 2015 longlist is down to about 40 names now, and there's guys on there whose illnesses have been mentioned in national newspapers and will easily get an obituary across the board who haven't been mentioned on this forum yet. A lot of people keep their powder very very dry, we're not even getting any fake dying rumours posted this year (Jasper Carrott, huh?) -
A dog gone shame

Nah, Jason Wood, completely forgotten generic panel show comedian and the first ever person eliminated from Strictly, died in 2010.

We're all hoping for a Gordie Howe hat trick

Orion of course had a pretty grim ending himself, bled to death after a failed robbery attempt on his pawnstore got him shot in the stomach and, while he was dying slowly, got to see his wife take a shotgun blast to the face as well. Shame, he could have been on Pawn Stars instead of Rick.

Zorreguieta will get the Daily Mail obit I'm convinced of it, even if just because Hello Magazine are absolutely obsessed with chronicling his final months. But yeah, not a DL-suitable pick. Feel like Liz Smith may have earned a spot on the list though.

Nice for the ghost of Natalie Wood to take time to post here.

Dead, according to the scrollbar on News 24.

Ike already tried that.

As one of those who picked Ms Stewart for the 2014 DDP, I'm more and more convinced that while she does have cancer, she is not at death's door in any way. She's still giving speeches, she's still walking unaided and she's still able to do quite a bit of campaigning. I think it's a bit of a al-Megrahi gambit on her part. Still, she could go before 2015 is up but I don't think I'll be redrafting her for David Quantick's Showbiz Pals' threepeat attempt.

I think the DL needs to stop trying to play catch-up to DDP standout teams and go back to its roots. Lets have more fading 90+ celebrities of a previous generation or 75+ers who've had strokes/heart attacks in recent years. Why not Jimmy Greaves? George Cole? Burt Kwouk? These seem like more DL-y names than some of the ones being bandied about here. Nimoy's a good punt though.

It'll be time for the "make your 2015 DL suggestions" thread soon. I'll leave the honour to one of the site's more senior members.

Correct me if I'm wrong (I'm not as up on ALS as I am on cancers), but the 2-5 life expectancy range for ALS is a misnomer isn't it? It's that people tend to die either within the first two years of the disease being diagnosed, or after five years or so. If you make it past the first 24 months of diagnosis you're probably good for another 1/4 decade.

Seems like there's a lot less in the way of locks for 2014 than there have been in recent years? Although admittedly the three locks for 2014 were Johnson, Harper and Simon and look how well that's gone. -
Was surprised that more didn't go for him in the end tbh: I'd have thought between him playing on "I Wish It Could Be Christmas Everyday" and the propensity for the BBC local sections to mention anyone who died within their confines that had a moments' international fame he'd have been a straight-forward obit.

RA Montgomery, the creator of the "Choose Your Own Adventure" book series, has died aged 78 after a short illness. He then turned back to page 34 and decided to follow the dragon down to the dungeon instead. -
