Let's throw in a few more names that feel DL-y: Pete Seeger, Lawrence Ferlinghetti, Reverend Sun Yung Moon, Chuck Yeager, Gudrun "Super Gran" Ure. -
Who Should Be on the 2012 DeathList?

There's always a wild card "this guy is bound to drop dead at some point" Britpick as well. Jocky Wilson? -
Forgetting M*A*S*H* and Dragnet for a second, Harry Morgan was actually in Support Your Local Sheriff!, which is a great film, and The Barefoot Executive, which really isn't. Depressing to think that Kurt Russell has been a Hollywood leading man for 45 years now. Anyway, now that Sherman tanked, we can see how that's affected the IDP standings. Everyone has now got points on (off?) the board, but Garn2 remains top of the pile on -9. Theoretically, any of the top eight could win with just one death affecting the scores, but then I never did maths after GCSE so this might be utter bollocks. 1. Garn2 -9 points 2. STAB_in-the_DARK (Rotten Ali) -14 points 3. Might Come to Maryport in 2012 (maryportfuncity) -21 points 4. 25 To Stay Alive (Toast) -23 points 5. BertTrautman -25 points 6. Life, Oh Life [via Des'Ree] (Spade_Cooley) -26 points 7. Captain Chorizo -29 points 8. CarolAnn -34 points 9. time -36 points 10. DevonDeathTrip -40 points 11. No Rest for the Wicked (Madame Defarge) -41 points 12. Lady Grendel -46 points 13. heaven can wait -59 points

That rumour was started by a 17-year-old on Twitter called @samyidroberts, who has now deleted his account. Of all the people in the world to get angry, Duncan Ferguson would be very very low down on my list.

Just as clarity for 2012, and to quite possibly accidentally leak one of my prospective uniques: what's the rule on obituaries that appear behind the Times paywall?
-
A disastrous year on the DeathList, we've not had a hit in nearly 32 minutes, this is the longest drought on the DeathList since the blah blah blah blah blah blah blah.

XOXO

Waddell will be "at the World Championships", although whether that's as a commentator or just to observe The Groper stroll to another title isn't clear.

Blackpool's Keith Southern recuperating after having a "tumour removed from his testicles".

Chances of getting an obituary in an English national newspaper are approximately 0.00001%, but never forget his contribution to cinema history:
-
"news has just come in" = I spend my entire life refreshing the "Deaths in 2011" page on Wikipedia in the desperate attempt that I can shitpost the passing of yet another person who isn't actually famous in any way shape or form.

In these days of renewed focus on honour killings, might be worth noting that Pakistani actress Veena Malik has her knockers....
-
A likely story. She's living in the land of make believe.

She's gone missing.

Dancehall artist Vybz Kartel, who was in prison pending a court case for murder, is now on the run after "the biggest prison breakout in Jamaica's history". One guard is reported dead with another two seriously injured.

Few things to take from this Sunday Mirror rush job about Robbo's kidney rot: 1) The Bee Gees' mother, Barbara Gibb, is still alive aged 91, and you'd have thought she'd get an obituary mention when she pops off. 2) Robin is putting his faith in recovery in "traditional Native American spider medicine" and has been receiving health advice from Uri Geller. He is fucked.

Willing to put a cheeky fiver on Robin Gibb being the #1 pick for 2012 tbh.

RIP big man.

Time for yet another person "seeking the right to die" who will never exercise it. 57-year-old Tony Nicklinson. -
This is pretty creepy, in hindsight. How do you sit down and talk about Phil Jones's positional sense when, in your head, you've already decided you're going to off yourself within 12 hours?
-
If any mod wants to spin this off as its own thread, may I suggest "Breakneck Speed" as the sub-head?

The Telegraph is reporting that he was "found hanged". Whether this was a Hutchencewank gone wrong or whether he just woke up and realised that he would have to deal with Craig Bellamy and Robert Earnshaw for the next three years of his life, idk.

Merely days after posting this to the movies thread, a third participant from the film has died: Ron Lyle, who lost by 11th round TKO to Ali in 1975, has died from a stomach ailment aged 70. Being as that's three people out of ten dead in less than a year, you may wish to consider the remaining seven boxers as potentially at risk from the "curse of Facing Ali": George Chuvalo, George Foreman, Larry Holmes, Ken Norton, Earnie Shavers, Leon Spinks and Ernie Terrell.
