You're on a roll today, Gooseberry Reaper!
-
A daft idea which came to me - there are 8 people on this years Deathlist who have made eight appearances or more. Bedblockers if you will. (Though that's a bit mean, I like de Havilland, after all...) So a simple poll - of our immortals, which one will be the last one standing, the one to outlive all the other seven? Fats Domino and Castro have youth on their side, but I wouldn't put it past Jake Lamotta to find a way...

This ones going faster than And Then There Was None! 4 left in 15 months. Olivia (again), Prince Philip, Bob Dole and Henry Kissinger.
-
Olivia outlives all the younger whippersnappers!
-
For a change, I'm sticking with this. Long game!

I concur its probably time for one of the sick younger folk to go after a spate of old age deaths, but to be different I've gone Trebek.

Political Discussions And Ranting Thread

It's been around for about 60 years in the US (as a sort of "remember the fallen" gesture iirc it was big in the US military) so I've no idea either. I knew it wasn't George RR Martin however. -
Really? The Iraqi version was one of those faces that Saddam put on UK/US TV to defend him a lot during the Gulf War and 90s. He was captured after 2003 but managed to avoid execution because he was mysteriously not in the room anytime an atrocity was planned.

An icon and you can't say that about many. RIP.

It's also a good tip in general for deadpoolers around Christmas. Cancer plus sepsis = apparently fucked.

Well done Toast. Took on the ambulance chasers of the forum and pretty much kick their arses with a solid well known name in hospital pick everyone else overlooked.

Eileen Atkins is 86 today, pushing ever closer to Cmme consideration age. Damaris Hayman, a favourite of many on here, is 91! And somehow 90s ECW fan fave The Sandman is 57.

She was looking a bit frail by her standards on Pointless few weeks ago but then she might be one of these people who just lose weight as they get older.

It seemed quite obvious from the symptoms that he was a goner but not really the pick for a DDP host. Anyhow he should get an obit for Sir Creep and Going Underground soon now the family have actually announced it.
-
Hah, it was more of a gag that I am terrible at noticing sock posters (even that fake mod one who posted exactly like Bou) and even I notice a mysterious newcomer who happens to like Corrie... I've only ever been banned from one forum - which no longer exists - and it had nothing to do with me, honest. Mrs msc threatened the admin in a pub.
-
Aye, although if he survives another few weeks, Book might have jinxed Derek Draper into becoming a "Will he/wont he make it" 2021 DDP name. So the MMMDP loss might be the Drop 40's gain.
-
There's a banned poster using an alias! Nobody told me about this...miracle!

If Corrie was ever in danger the best way to save it is the same way you'd save Doctor Who, BBC4, anything else with a small but loyal audience this century. Leak its at risk and see the sudden fury rise against such a thing in the press. -
See now there's a marketing advantage for Joey: bonus points if you get an Advent Avalanche winner before theres a MMMDP winner!
-
iirc the rules stress the likelihood of a winner being before June 21st but only states the game is over when the first death happens, so in theory this could lumber along till next Summer with everyone looking foolish. There does appear to be an increase in "random old guy" picks this year, for which I think we can blame covid wiping out all and any other health news off Google...

There is a widely read short story in schools from the Victorian or Edwardian era I forget the name and author of (big help there) about a chap giving a ripping yarn at a kids party about his time in India. The story ends with him trapped in a cave as a tiger closed in. "How did you escape?" asked a child. "Oh I didn't", the guy goes, "the tiger mauled me to death". The twist being this revelation caused a big panic and the owners of the house banned the ghost from telling stories after that one.

Covid seems to be spreading out across South America now - possibly Bolsonaro related - with the notable exception of Uruguay, who have a bit of a reputation for being bizarrely sensible for a South American country.

Oh Docherty is still chatting away about his time at United from an armchair. His mind still clearly works, even if he himself is start to show his age. Here's a screenshot which isn't as good as my laptop darkens the picture. On screen he starts like that and goes bright red after about 10 seconds of talk, which is another hint at vascular issues, as is the broken veins on his cheeks and neck.
-
On TV so no photos but watching a recent BT Sport doc about Man United in the 70s and Pat Crerand looks fucked, lost weight, gaunt in the cheeks, skeletal hands, slurred speech etc. Also Tommy Docherty has shown up. He always used to look good for his age but it's really catching up with him now. He's got the old man red face from vascular issues look going on. Denis Law looks like shit but strangely better than he did about 2 years ago. EDIT - John Cooper-Clarke looks ghastly too. This is nearly a one stop shop for DDP form guides.

The World of the Snowflake
msc replied to Lord Fellatio Nelson's topic in DeathList extra-curricular
Drake did all of his work on the orders of Elizabeth I, and I am yet to see suggestions we change anything named after her. Or Victoria. Curious to see their list includes Sir Robert Peel, possibly because they are mistaking him for another member of his own family, but also maybe because of his anti-Catholic views. Despite those views, he wrote the bill on emancipation in the 1820s and sacrificed his own top level career to end the Corn Laws. So are we going to hate on a chap in 2020 for his personal views when he was still directly responsible for the two of the biggest moves in favour of poor Irish and British Catholics in his life? (Lets not forget the man also banned sending kids down mines, and 99% of the capital offences from the times when you could be hung for stealing an apple...) Gladstone also based on his family and the reason he was put in parliament in the first place as a 20 year old was to oppose abolition - but we don't remember him solely for that, do we? We remember him because he grow out of those views, denounced them, and went onto champion the rights of the individual throughout the world. Both were heavy on basic civil rights long before that became a big thing. I do have sympathy for the BLM cause, and get the starting point for some of these discussions (as I said before, any statue put up to a known racist in the 1990s in a public place is just shit stirring) but if everyone is getting judged to the standards of the two men above in 2020 as a basic example, none of us are escaping spotless. There's a strong degree of baby with the bathwater here, led on by the Scrappy Doos in society who probably couldn't name you a single African American civil rights leader. So either we bulldoze all of the UK, or we face up to history and context. But then I am opposed to facelift proposals that do nothing to make things better bar make a few guilty middle class consciences feel better.
