Only Famous For Being Ill And Dying

The Scottish spirits let him know. Second sight, you know? Here's a whole exorcism of them.

    The Deathlist Cup

Or, indeed, shameless? The funerals at Linn Crem, so if he doesn't get into the Evening Times or Record that week...

    Eric Clapton

Best known to the younger audience via perennial mentions on this very forum! Though whenever I check them on Wiki, it seems like Teddy Johnsons Date of Birth keeps changing.

    Rugby Players

The latest on Colin Meads is that that Te Kiri Gold Water alternative cancer cure (and you're going to be stunned here) doesn't work. I know, I was shocked too. Not to worry, he's going to keep taking dilute hypochlorous acid, just in case. As for White Van Zan (-dvliet? oh suit yourself), he seems confident he'll see a charity match on June 3rd.

    Death Anniversary Thread

Vonnegut had a wonderfully mean-spirited FOX obituary: This pissed off a lot of folk I know at the time, but hey, when I saw it, I thought: man, they really hate this guy. I need to read his stuff NOW! And, it's great. So it goes! Slaughterhouse Five is the standout, but Timequake, Man without a Country, etc, all recommended.

    Elizabethan Deadpool

Mind you, even when you have the 2nd most lenient host on the forum (hi) running a Cup like competition, some folk still manage to fail to get qualifying obits.

    The Dead Of 2017

Sir Arnold Clark, founder of, well, Arnold Clarks, dead aged 89. To be honest, thought he was gone years ago.

    Pope Francis

Also, he has one lung due to either childhood TB or a similar style of disease. He's probably well aware he's lived fairly beyond the life expectancy of other people from his generation with the same op. Could just have a healthy perspective on things.

    Patrick Macnee

He tried to invite Diana Rigg along to it, too, iirc. Can't say I blame him for trying! Like when Tom Baker allegedly tried it on with Louise Jameson.
  10. Not really Ideas for 2018 (at least, I hope not) but Jim Broadbent was looking and sounding rather OAP-ish on Marr's show earlier. Well, more than usual imo. I was going to say how its funny how Brian Taylor is two years younger than Gavin Esler but no one would twig that without knowing, but no one would get that one bar Willz and charon...

Updated: Who Will Win DDP 2017?

Bert = OoO, Spade = DDT, then who = Spade?

All the main Ramones are gone, no? We're down to one Mama and no Papas too.

    The Deathlist Cup

Emma Betts provides a FFBI single point to Heef and Rad Guy. This alllows Rad Guy to take a slender lead against DDT. 1. DDT vs Rad’s Die-monds in the Sky (Rad Guy) 0-1 2. “O” (Gcreptile) vs William Henry Harrison Die-in-a-Month Squad (Death Impends) 2-6 3. 101 Great Practical Jokes with Luciano Re Cecconi (Spade Cooley) vs Deadsox 2-0 4. The GUN’11 (Grim Up North) vs Heef 2-1

Might want to give it a few hours, or consult Peter Cushing, just to make sure.

Blimey, so he did! "40 teams picked Stynes, enough for him to take his place in this year's Drop 40 and he's the second hit from that illustrious list, after Etta James. Five teams get 20 points for their joker, the rest get 10. This big hit has shaken up the leaderboard, with 'arry-Kiri regaining the lead but jointly with DDP champ The Living End, who's had a good month..." TMIB, March 2012 Not to worry, I had Peregrine Worsthorne instead...

Aye, they'd be Drop 40 candidates these days, I think. Hmm, noticed we've had 3 big DDP hits in the last two 10th Aprils. Lauren Hill (and her 24 point jokers), Richie Benaud and Howard Marks. I wonder if there will be a 4th in 3 years on Monday.

April variant then. 8th March to 8th April On this day (using only the final contenders per year...) 2016 DDT 106 Death Impends 102 Spade Cooley 94 Pan Breed 89 Heading Nowhere 88 Bert 84 So many deaths in March 2016... So many in fact, that my Maths skills start to struggle, and produced 3 different scores for DI! 2015 Death Impends 55 Spade Cooley 40 DDT 34 2014 Spade Cooley 41 DDT 22 Drunkasaskunk 30 Only change here (apart from the Glasgow chap’s Vernita Gray unique) is my fixing a maths error in Spade’s total from last month. 2013 OoO 83 DDT 75 Death Impends 73 Crossing the Styx 65 Spade Cooley 46 This Mortail Coil 45 The debonair gentleman spy of the Deathlist forums was being heavily chased by the local undertaker and a future admin. Spade was doing far better but needed some obscure Millwall guy to die in May and obit, and the odds of that were very low indeed. And yes, I know, Jack Pardee didn’t obit till months later. Like I’d remember to retro-add that later... 2012 DDT 60 ‘arry-Kiri 45 OoO 41 Spade Cooley 33 Norfolk and Good 21 I did note Jim Stynes health in 2012 but never picked him as I was unsure about a QO. Anyhow, the ten points he gave out on death helped DDT, as did nabbing another 10 for a unique on Bert Sugar. One of the more surprising unique hits in DDP history, that, or am I just showing my genre bias? Although, obviously I never picked him either. Jock Hobbs (9 points) and Miguel de la Madrid (7 points) also added to a firm charge by the Devonian lord of darkness... 2011 DDT 52 As it says... 2010 If I’m Spared Myself of Course 31 Canadian Paul 23 Tonight Matthew 22 ‘arry-Kiri 17 DDT 16 Rot in Hell John 15 Impaled on the Antlers 15 Banshees 14 OoO 14 Toast might not have lead the actual table at this point, but she leads the 2010 contenders table at this point, because nothing happened in the previous month. The most exciting thing to happen in March 2010 was Harry Carpenter falling down some stairs (a unique pick by some randomer), and and someone shot Eugene Terreblanche. The latter of which I found out on the day we paid for the venue for my wedding! 2009 Heaven Knows They’re Miserable Now – 61 DDT – 55 No Noose is Good Noose – 49 Tonight Matthew 31 Banshees 29 Impaled on the Antlers – 19 Noose picked up 16 points on a shot warlord. Ja(n)e Goody was an early miss for HKTMN, and a gain for Tonight Matthew. DDT missed out on Ms. Goody too... 2008 Godot’s Waiting List 70 DDT 68 The Man in Black 63 Canadian Paul 37 Banshees 34 Wormer 26 TMIB still within touching distance thanks to Charlton Heston. Only Richard Widmark separates Godot and DDT...

    The Dead Of 2017

Christopher Morahan, who directed Pigott-Smith in The Jewel in the Crown, apparently died too yesterday, going by several in the know tweets. He'd have been 87.

    Barry Manilow

I'll be completely honest here: I didn't even know he was IN the closet. I thought it was just one of those widely known things announced decades ago...

    Disc Jockeys

Agreed. It could have been a cast iron source though (like a child or wife) who they trusted, and who was confused by the events of the night. In which case, Matthew isn't ever going to find out about this. Unlike Joe DiMaggio, who saw his own premature obit on one of the major American news channels, and got pissed off - then died. Mind you, could be Marcus Garvey. 1940, had a stroke, read his own obituary in the newspaper which said he was "unpopular and alone". Got such a shock, he had another stroke and promptly died!
