    The 100 Club

Clare Hollingworth celebrated her 105th this October. Here's a Time magazine article on here. The usual frail health, but more attention is being given to the apparent thousands of refugees she helped flee the Nazis in the 1930s. There's a book which came out earlier this year. I've got her own autobiography, Frontline, which she wrote aged 78 (so ages ago now!) on the bookshelf. A quick glance confirms what I'd recalled: she takes two pages out of 300 to mention the refugees, and two paragraphs within to mention her actual work (ie, fast tracking visas against the UK government's wishes) for people fleeing Germany, Poland and the Sudetenland. Anyhow, I thought that was interesting insight into a popular Deadpool pick.

    Political Frailty

Yes, I'm aware of that, I've used it at work before. The thing about Tom Mitchell is that the above list is chiefly kept up to date by keeping note of Parliamentary pensions, and as Mitchell was expelled, he was never eligible for one, and he dropped off the radar and is rarely seen, even by old colleagues. He did show up at a funeral in 2013 on a look around though, so he's probably still about. George Perry was listed as alive by the 2014 copy of the Research Briefing. It then turned out he'd died in 1998!

    Ideas And Possibilities For 2017

Didn't get close to the start line.
  4. The Christmas Special (set in Florida) is on the 27th Dec. More footage of Rosemary Shrager and Miriam Margoyles looking like they're about to keel over just in time for stragglers pondering spots 15-20 on their DDP teams, no doubt.

    Political Frailty

With confirmation awaiting on Sir Dudley Smith (see the "announced on Wiki" thread), a quick look back at the living MPs from the 1955 and 1959 elections. 1955: James Ramsden (1930) – Tory Lord Balniel (1927) – Tory John Eden (1925) – Tory Sir Richard Body (1927) – Tory Thomas Mitchell (1931) – Sinn Fein (his being alive is disputed, iirc) 1959 Timothy Kitson (1931), Tory Stratton Mills (1932), Alliance Party of Northern Ireland John Morris, Lord Morris of Aberavon (1931), Labour James Ramsden (1923), Tory – Last man to be Secretary for War. Sir Peter Tapsell (1930) – Tory Alan Thompson (1924) – Labour Sir John Wells (1925) – Tory Lord Balniel (1927) – Tory Clive Bossom (1918) – Tory Edward du Cann (1924) – Tory John Eden (1925) – Tory John Hollingworth (1930) – Tory Sir Dudley Smith (1926-2016?) Denis Healey was the last 1951 survivor. Going off an early list from the Labour History Group in 2013, so anyone missing is their fault, not mine!

    Political Frailty

He was lawyer for the family of Salazar's chief opponent after the guy was murdered by the dictator's secret police, a prominent anti-fascist prisoner after, and after release and exile, became a two time PM of his country, and decade long President. (Which is a much more powerful position in Portugal as it gives you defence and foreign affairs briefs to control.) He's Santiago Carrilo with less actual fighting and killing people and more power. He'll piss an QO in his sleep imo.

    Ingmar Bergman

She was a Bergman leading lady, hence the post being here, I presume. Swedish doesn't translate via Google into English very well, but I'd suggest, while a DDP obit might be unlikely, the Bergman link suggests a Deathrace friendly obit surely wouldn't be, if you think she's sick enough.

    Hollywood Possibilities

Was on my shortlist last year too. Always difficult to get it just right with ALS, though. Chris Woodhead was on my list twice, dropped him and he promptly snuffed it. Joost has been on my list the last two years...

    Room Lovely, Look You.

Isn't that where Geldof basically handed over the money for Band Aid to the dictator of the country with a "now you can feed people" and it got used to buy military equipment? Or am I mixing up my African dictatorship/starving populace? Either, Geldof's an idiot anyhow.

    2016 DDP salvage lot

Did see Underwood talking to Kris Travis on Twitter the other week about PICC lines, which was a nice alternate universe version of the DDP. He's been in hospital all of December in a bad way, according to Twitter, though given he gave up his blogging in June, an obit would rely solely on his father-in-law.

    Zsa Zsa Gabor

What a woman. In the surviving things, I mean. Makes you want to dig out those episodes of Batman and Night Gallery to see if she was any shakes as an actress, at all. However they're not available via the quickest of Google searches, so sod that.

    The Hare's Death Pool

I do plan to enter the 2017 Hare's Pool now - a change of plans - but I'll send you a list in closer to the deadline.

    Zsa Zsa Gabor

(I love that show, you couldn't even ruin it by telling me Ben Elton secretly wrote it all...)

    Zsa Zsa Gabor

The quick version: "In 2004, Zsa Zsa Gabor did not die. In 2005, Zsa Zsa Gabor did not die. In 2006, Zsa Zsa Gabor did not die. In 2007, Zsa Zsa Gabor did not die. In 2008, Zsa Zsa Gabor did not die. In 2009, Zsa Zsa Gabor did not die. In 2010, there was the incident with the last rites as I mentioned. In 2011, Zsa Zsa Gabor did not die. In 2012, Zsa Zsa Gabor did not die. In 2013, Zsa Zsa Gabor did not die. In 2014, Zsa Zsa Gabor did not die. In 2015, some one died. Her daughter. In 2016..."

    The Hare's Death Pool

Oh cool, that reminds me to update the sig... Technically all you need in this game is to wait till December and grab a dozen hits then. Somewhat easier said than done, mind you! I had this exact scenario planned in 2014, and while no one died in the first half of the year as planned, the flaw was that sod all died in the second half as well.

    Zsa Zsa Gabor

Ah, she'll go one day. When people don't expect it. The first few replies will have people calling hoax and bringing up that mediamass website or whatever its called. Of course most of us might be dead by that point.

    Last Word

Maybe not this week, but one for a future "archive" spot - Sir Alan Urwick (1930-2016), former British diplomat, British Ambassador to Egypt in the 80s, and the House of Commons Sergeant of Arms from 89 to 95.
  18. Yeah, inspirational cancer sufferers who get mentioned once and only once are a bear trap for unwise deadpoolers.

    The Hartlepool Deadlypool

Hey, trying to come up with a list of the winners of all the Deathlist forum games, a sort of Hall of Fame if you were. As I can't find it mentioned in thread, can any of those around at the time remember who won the 2008 Hartlepool Deadlypool? Also, did the 2009 winner "Why Not?" ever officially turn out to be a member of this forum? Thanks.

    Derby Dead Pool 2016

Moving you clear of the actual Deathlist team! Am I the only person who, anytime they see the team name Sir Candy's All Stars, has their brain change it to Sir Creep?

Norman Tebbit can't die, being undead.
  25. Absolutely no one. A complete turn around from last year!
