I'm glad you started a general stats thread as it stopped anyone else doing it.. *innocent face* No idea what my long list would look like by profession, a curious one.

This kind of greed angers me. Nobody is entitled to any inheritance in the first place, so fighting over it is just wrong. I'm leaving all my money to dogs trust. Aye, Mum keeps trying to bring up inheritance with me and my sister, especially during her recent cancer scare. We're both of the opinion that we'd much rather have her around for as long as possible, than gain a single penny in inheritance.

He had health issues, iirc, about 15 years ago, and had to take early retirement from his real life job of working in a prison more recently.

Asa Briggs death reduces the no to 11 still alive http://www.bbc.com/news/uk-35813749 Bibliogryphon's list was a bit of a killing field, so to update, I thought I'd look at the new names on the list since 2015. However, this was scuppered by them all having sensible reasons for the sabbatical, like taking up an interest in trams, or walking across Brazil for UNICEF, or not being arsed with politics. Roy Hattersley is on one, but I've not heard anything about him, mores the pity. The only exception (beyond Ian Paisley's widow, perhaps) was Lord Wade of Chorlton (b. 1932), a former treasurer for the Tory party during the Thatcher era. He once said: "Any well brought-up young man should have a mistress, a yacht and a racehorse." And there in lies my entire knowledge of him. Will get an obit one day.

14-13 on penalties? Unlucky.

Great show. RIP. There were some classic lines eg: Sir Humphrey: How are things at the Campaign for the Freedom of Information, by the way? Sir Arnold: Sorry, I can't talk about that. The favourite in this house: Sir Humphrey: Prime Minister, I must protest in the strongest possible terms my profound opposition to the newly instituted practice which imposes severe and intolerable restrictions upon the ingress and egress of senior members of the hierarchy and will, in all probability, should the current deplorable innovation be perpetuated, precipitate a constriction of the channels of communication, and culminate in a condition of organisational atrophy and administrative paralysis, which will render effectively impossible the coherent and co-ordinated discharge of the function of government within Her Majesty's United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland! Hacker: You mean you've lost your key?

I can think of 2 TV related people and one chap who needs to get a-head in life, all oft-mentioned on here, who will be in several of the top 20 next year providing they are breathing on January 1st. Also, its only August. "Dead certs" tend to show up in October-December time more than earlier. The earlier ones tend to die before new year. I think I know which people you are speaking of. True, I forgot about the "chap", But he's an unusual case and lots of things may still happen. I've heard that one of those two TV people (if I guess correctly) may be a fraud. The pessimist in me does wonder if the mad doctor will constantly delay the chap's operation, in some sort of attempt to back out of his bold proclamation without causing someone's death. The chap has late stage illness, iirc, so might snuff it before the operation. He reminds me of the Dutch killer from 2015: a risk, but short of cancellation, certain points, and a qualifying obit. I've currently got a shortlist of about 40 names, of which 17 would most likely go on a DDP team, but of which I expect around a half dozen to die before January 1st. Anytime I think I might have a sneak unique pick, someone names them on the forum, but that's life for you.

Aye, I was sure Fetters had been mentioned at some point, but it could have been the Mail I was thinking of. Likewise, I was convinced Karen Muir had to have been mentioned on the forum, as she was one of my unused subs in 2013, yet there is no mention prior to 2013 found via the search engine.

There's more smoke about Gene Wilder than there is Val Kilmer, but nothing publicly substantial.

Well, I'm not changing my vote because I'm a stubborn git.

I thought there was a thread for Stats and stuff I could reply in depth to you on this point. Can't find it. Anyhow...

Not only Auntie Beeb, but ITV and Sky now too. And his illness has been covered in the Guardian and Independent according to Google. However, the last four months of the year are a killing field for DDP hopefuls...

Mark Chapman up for parole next week. He obviously wont get it, but if he ever did, with the number of Beatles devotees about the place, he'd go right in my DDP top 20 as an unnatural death bonus dead cert.

He's still alive. Joost, that is. Though looking for updates on him did bring up the strange tale of van der Westhuizen's lawyer. He's dead, the lawyer, and it turns out he was murdered. Anyhow, the courts have denied van der Westhuizen access to his own money "invested" by the dead man, despite claiming it is needed for his death. (Funeral savings?) Behind a Afrikaans paywall, apparently Joost vdW can only move his eyes now. He was well enough to give weak interviews about this time last year. [Which also suggests the experimental medicine they tried on him in January hasn't worked, I'd guess.] He's in stoppage time.

If I've read this correctly, should the Gorilla get 15% backing it will be able to participate in a debate.Come on US chums, get behind the ape! I'd assume being dead would disqualify the candidate? Tommy Burks was a 20 year Senator from Tennessee by 1998. His Republican opponent, Byron Looper, certainly assumed so, as he shot Burks dead. However, they put the man's widow on the ballot and she thumped the killer, who spent the rest of his life in jail instead. However, former Bush Attorney General John Ashcroft lost to a dead man in 2000. He was swiftly given the government post by Bush. -
Swearing at the radio around 3pm, providing the hissy fit in the corner allows it. I don't have it to hand, but FourFourTwo are predicting Carlisle for promotion this season. Given they predicted Leicester for relegation last season... be afraid?

One who looked promising, briefly. Metastatic cancer in the lymph nodes? Taking time off for treatment? Oh, the Ohio Senate, not a Senator from Ohio. The American political system is highly confusing. Anyhow, Kenny Yuko isn't a well man.

One for deadpools with less strict Qualifying obit criteria (don't all go looking at Maryport all at once) but an Australian columnist called Jack The Insider has Stage III bladder cancer. I'd assume The Insider isn't his actual surname, but then, it is Australia.

Candida Lycett Green, my one time 1st name down for the 2015 DDP, died on this day in 2014. It's also the anniversary of Mo Mowlam and Lorca, but I take grievance at the idea of Groucho Marx being a "nuttin".

She had a blood clot in her sinuses after a concussion in 2012. Not nice, but there's been people with much worse issues on the DDP and Deathlist who've made full recoveries.

On the other hand, you know what's funny in the US election? Jill Stein, less popular than a dead gorilla. -
Exaggerating the health of your opponent is a long standing American tradition. Although Dr Drew talking about a faked medical form as though it were real was hilarious. Who knew the man who thought Mike Starr had beaten addiction would be so rubbish at health stuff? We could take any old photo of someone in public and claim they were having issues. Randomly picked, but all clear signs of neurological issues, clearly... Let's be honest. Trump is beyond useless at all the competent stuff you'd expect from even the Dukakis, Bob Doles and John Kerrys of the world, and as a result, is threatening to turn stronghold Republican territory like Georgia and Arizona into Hilary land. He's still to spend a single dollar on campaigning in large swathes of Florida. His campaign rests on winning New York "because I'm liked there", a state which recently showed him 25 points behind! (I'm as wary of polls as the next person, but even I concede 20 plus point leads might not be within margin of error territory). He can't even unite his own base, because he's too busy picking slights with the Republican party, and as a result, is actually threatening to unseat a whole host of long serving names in the bargain. When Chuck Grassley is in a competitive fight - Grassley! - then lord knows the Republicans have a major problem. Also in states where the Trump message WOULD break through, Michigan for one, he's spent more time pissing off as many voters as he wins. Frankly, his only hopes are for large swathes of the voting public to believe that Clinton is terminally ill, or that Russia and Assange can do his job and make her toxic from the emails. Although on that case, I remember that John Ashcroft was considered so toxic in his race in 2000, he took on a dead man and still lost. On the other hand, Donald Trump's "totally authentic" doctors letter did amuse.
