No one apparently cared. Strange, he's indeed a big name. It's not that no one cares about his death, rather no one even cares about Nobel prize winners during their life. Name five, quick! See. SC Living? Munro, Carter, Kissinger, Trimble, Obama. Not living, I'd have named Charles Townes (friend of a friend, apparently a nice guy) and Frederick Sanger (who I was once lined up to interview, but he became too ill). I know Kohn was a big name in his field, but his field sort of goes woosh over my head - I was never very good at getting science classes at school. RIP anyhow.

We seem to have grown up in different households.SC You know the French back in the day had a punctuation mark, which was a sort of upside down question mark which marked sarcasm or irony. We could do with it again these days.

So he really is the artist formerly known as Prince now.

A certain Drop Forty candidate next year, former Nigerian President and household name Ibrahim Babangida is reported to be seriously ill.

Just wait for the much anticipated Quantick, about how a young copy editor became David Quantick and won a bunch of derby deadpools. I haven't heard any casting yet, but I have heard twitter is awash with people demanding the casting directors know their priviledges anyhow.

Someone unexpected.

You'll note almost all of those articles are from a single, widely ridiculed source. This isn't really a big deal other here. Hmmmm. The anti-William sentiment has now reached our shores: http://www.theaustralian.com.au/news/world/the-times/prince-william-shows-he-is-out-of-step-with-the-queen/news-story/062e76661fd99f3c014207626d0c4f88 Much ado about nothing, William has been the 2nd most popular royal pretty much since Diana died, and he and Kate keep doing that crowd favourite of popping out royal babies. Now where's that newspaper with its reports about Camilla trying to make sure Charles usurps the throne when Liz dies. We've not heard anything from that in ages.

Was told by my wife. "How did you find out about a wrestling death before me?" I asked. "Oh, I follow Saraya Knight on twitter", she said. I'm more shocked Chyna got to 45. She was a complete basket case, to put it kindly.

Last UK Queen who didn't outlive a child - Queen Mary II in 1694, who didn't have any kids. Odds are Queen Liz will be around for a while yet, and will outlive one of her children.

Two years ago? Fucking hell, time flies.

Didn't we just do this a few months ago?

Magic Johnson, And Other Basketball Players
msc replied to Death Watch Beatle's topic in DeathList Forum
His death was mentioned in another thread, but I'll use this one to note that his death has gotten Guardian and Mail coverage. Not a DDP pick, but him and Andrew Smith both getting QOs could be a useful reference point the next time a risky-obit basketballer falls ill. We are getting close to the point I'd be more confident in US sports names than in non-big team footballers getting qualifying obits. -

On Friday they also did a bit on whether more celebs are dying in 2016. Can catch it on I-Player. The answer is yes because of the boom in television and pop music in the fifties. (Bigger pool to draw from) Plus the internet lets people's fame travel further than it might have done before.

I'm hoping he'll be able to see in New year by hook or crook, or else I'm in danger of turning "damn, that's annoying" into a catchphrase.

Are The Dl Forums Too Hostile For New Members And Sane People?
msc replied to Deathray's topic in DeathList extra-curricular
I wouldn't say so either but I'm not sure how sane I am. I'm not particularly sane and therein may lie the catch! Though it does seem to me, over the years I've been here, the older posters have been fairly welcoming to a whole lot of newer posters: DJL, Bibliogryphon, and Shaun to name but three. -
I'd love to rant about how when I was 15 I had a social life rather than posting shite online but I can't because i was doing the same. Hey, I'm sure its even easier to do both now, with Iphones and constant internet access.

Are The Dl Forums Too Hostile For New Members And Sane People? No. I wouldn't say so. -
Apparently MK is 15? When I was that age I didn't half post a load of shit online, and assume I was really clever and right, because everyone does when they're a teenager. Hell, I still post a load of shit.

Spurs still have Stoke, Chelsea and Newcastle away, you'd expect them (ok, maybe not Newcastle) to be possible banana skins. Plus, Saints are a good team, and West Brom a right niggly one. Could easily come entirely undone. Hopefully. Must surely kill all those Arsenal and the like excuses. "Oh we don't have the money to compete" should be struck off as a league excuse for evermore should Leicester win.

I was just out on the patio having a tab when I heard a massive roar. Hmm, late draw, Vardy red carded. So, how many DLers are with me in willing Leicester to the title just to stuff it to the Premiershit outfits with masses of money and some sense of their divine right to win stuff? Yes. Also, looking forward to the Newcastle title win in 2017 when history repeats.

Chap up the stairs started jumping up and down and yelling "Fuck yeah! We're the fucking best!" about five seconds before Celtic scored on my stream. It's a complete mystery who he supports.
-
Hopefully they fix it soon. Both so I can get to read the updates, etc (because they tend to be enjoyable reads) and also so you don't wind up having to do an update of seventy people in a few weeks the way 2016 has gone!

He probably had the best character in that show, and there was some strong competition elsewhere. It's not even on the useless Channel 4 "iplayer" either.
