    The 3rd death of 2016

Was going for Zsa Zsa but had a sudden gut feeling for Peter Sallis, so that's my vote.

    Boutros Boutros-Ghali

    Well picked, then.

    The Godfather

I'm Scottish, "a while ago" can mean anything from ten minutes ago to a couple of centuries! Though Wikipedia tells me this was in October 2014.

    The Godfather

Hence the use of the phrase "a while back" in my previous post.

    The Godfather

Paraphrasing here, but Robert Duvall was on the Norton Show a while back. Graham Norton was doing his usual thing, and then started talking about how Duvall has had such a long run working in films without any breaks. "I'm 83" quipped Duvall, "I'll be having a very long break before too long." He probably deadpools on the side.
  6. Gyles Brandreth will need to fulfil his contractual obligation to appear on every bloody TV show in Britain.

    Death Anniversary Thread

I had no idea Brando was a carpet-muncher... Exposed in an article by Truman Capote, iirc. After which Brando claimed that the Capote technique was for Truman to "moan for hours on end about his own problems", after which Brando "felt he should try telling Capote some of his own".

    FIFA World Cup Players

The 94 World Cup was pretty terrible, but that game will live on. Cheerio Wolfman. Anyone know the cause? All the articles I read have the same cut and paste press wire. Enjoy again... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zT299bOCy3c Via Reuters, heart attack. He'd previously had one about a year or two ago.

    Kate And Gerry

She's dead, and has been since pretty much she disappeared. They clearly don't want their kid to be dead, but leaving her alone in a foreign country was shit parenting to say the least. And The Sun/Express/delete as applicable continue to bring the girl up because their readers like misery porn.

    Read Any Good Books Lately?

That was the 90s Decalog series, which (mostly) wasn't very good. The Short Trips were a series of books by Big Finish which could be found in Forbidden Planet and Waterstones. Well, for a year or two. The writers could use any of the (then) eight doctors, but didn't name them, which led to one moment where what I thought was a spot on Third Doctor was apparently meant to be Paul McGann!

    Read Any Good Books Lately?

Short Trips:2040 (The Baron) Short Trips: A Universe of Terrors (The Fear) Short Trips: Life Science (The End) In case that jogs any reading by Bibliogryphon. The only short trips books I read were Past Tense (which was mostly great) and Repercussions (which wasted a decent idea).

Have you read any of the Dr Who stories by Alexander Leithes? I believe he's written 3 or 4 of them. Wasn't aware of these unless he wrote them under a pen name. A trip to Tardis Wiki tells me he wrote three stories in the Short Trips anthologies, though I have read none of the three.
  13. Sanders has hinted his VP will be Elizabeth Warren, who is a youngster in this race at a mere 66. With Trump (70) and Clinton (69) as the other front runners, and Cruz/Rubio unlikely to be the nominee, this will likely be an issue for whoever wins the Presidency in 2016.
  14. Lubbock is 99th. So it looks like Joey Feek is odds on favourite to be the 100th.

    Political Frailty

RIP to him. So the good Lord (and he was by far one of the better ones, it's a sad loss in that) and I were somewhat out on guessing the month of his death. Shaun of the Dead was spot on, though.

    Deathrace 2016

Congratulations DDT. A fine end to one of the closest Deathraces I can recall. No shame in going down in 5 sets to Federer.

    Read Any Good Books Lately?

I'm glad to learn I'm not the only one who thinks that. Don't they have editors anymore? They do, although a good many writers seem to think success means they don't need editors anymore. Anne Rice is a famous example, though I've never read any of her stuff. Ray Bradbury would submit all of his work, even after he became famous, to a group of his own peers who would point out every error, plot hole and other issues, and then he'd work on those before it even went to an editor. I like to think modern writers can learn more from Bradbury than Rice...

Jurassic Park. The film is amazing, the book is possibly Crichton's best but does get bogged down in his own style.

    Deathrace 2016

There is an unconfirmed report on twitter via a decent source that Lord Avebury has died. If so, DDT has won. We'll no doubt find out more within a few hours if so.

    Life In Prison

Personally I think the last cellmate had a great thing going on, and should have been encouraged. The injuring Tobin bit of course, not the mad sex crime murders or whatever it was that got him in jail next to Tobin in the first place.

    Richard Adams

He seems to have been a lot quieter in the last year, which tells its own story, given he was quite active at meet and greets and interviews and the like well into this decade.

    By-Election Bingo

FAO Maryport The Voice of YMP might be on for a good one here, long term. Mike Gapes had a heart attack, and was only released from hospital last week, 2 months on.
  24. There was a chap on ABC (I think) last night suggesting Ben Carson might stay in the race as he'd get bored otherwise. I laughed.

    Deathrace 2016

Farnham, Kincaid, laTourette, Marks, Bishop Robinson, Pan Breed favourite Mary Wilson. My route to victory will depend on the above names, having got rid of the ones DI and DDT have! I feel the Bishop might be a lost cause, and that Mr Nice is more an end of the year pick if he goes. So, a repeat rests on Mrs Wilson, the two American politicians, and Rowena Kincaid. Of those four, I think Keith Farnham, being paedo scum, is a demise we can all fully enjoy if he snuffs it. But... Sir Creep has Jimmy Carter, Martin Crowe, Bob Ellis, Joey Feek, Ken Hechler, Susannah Jones, Emma Morano, Blackjack Mulligan (the one to worry about here), Overton, Nakamatsu, Huston Smith, Sharon Rockefeller, Szeles, Nobby Stiles and Lupita Tovar. Any of them going now gives him the title. DDT has al-Baghdadi, Bonnie Brown, Caslavska, Errol Christie, Jenny Diski, Esterhazy, Fekete, Rob Ford, Gary Haggarty, Lord Avebury, Mary Vaughan, David Tennant’s dad, Ronald Mulkearns, Louise Plowright and if any of those go before Sir Creep's folk above, he'll win. Switch is reliant on Tony Booth, King Bhumibol, Zsa Zsa, Gazza,Rev Billy, Havelange, Hawking, Odjick, IM Pei, Kris Travis, Janis Vaisla, Joost, Betty White. So who knows, Zsa Zsa might have the last laugh on all of us here. Death Impends then, has his route to victory through Adamowicz (because of joker status), Parveen diti, Hudnut, Langhorne, Rigas, and Suzanne Wright. Less choices, but more outright ill ones. And if Joey Feek went tonight, we'd get this in the table: Sir Creep 2101 DDT 2084 Switch 2080 Death Impends 2076 Jiroemonkimura 2052 Msc 2013 I mention that because... if one of the six names at the very top of this post go FIRST, I can win the entire thing with Joey Feek and my joker.
