    The Hartlepool Deadlypool

I'm still hoping Cahal Daly expires before midnight on Friday, thus propelling me to somewhere above 0 points overall.

    Deathlist 2011

A very small proportion of people do survive the illness. Candye Kane, Colin Friels, Ronnie Hawkins and Marilyn Horne are still here and cancer free. The jury is probably still out of Steve Jobs' eligibility to join this rather elite club.

    Dead Drummers

The prognosis doesn't look very good for Allen Schellenberger. I so nearly picked him for my DDP team, but changed my mind at the last minute because I wasn't conviced he'd get the right obituary. I think I replaced him with Alex Higgins. He is dead. http://consequenceofsound.net/2009/08/14/l...ger-dead-at-39/ Wonder if he will get the obit? I might have a Christmas present for you Misers. Is this enough of a mention to get those who picked Allen Shellenberger DDP points? It's the BBC and it says he's dead, I think that is all that is asked for.

    Time Added

Albert Scanlon has died aged 74, which is exactly why I'm not submitting my DDP team yet... Oh dear. How about replacing him with Brian Godfrey, former Exeter City Manager, who also captained Aston Villa and was capped by Wales? He has leukaemia.

    Death Anniversary Thread

Very nearly costing me DDP victory - luckily for me he couldn't hold out that extra few hours which would have got him Christmas bonus points and left me in second place.

    Ideas and Possibilities for 2010

Here's a couple of terminally ill people that I considered for my DDP team, but they missed the cut, due to obituary concerns. So I thought I'd share them just to see if anyone else fancies taking a chance. Paul Vincenzi, 72, the husband of best-selling author Penny Vincenzi, is suffering from two brain tumours. "I am not in pain, but the Sword of Damocles is upon me", he helpfully tells us. Margaret Moth, 58, New Zealand born CNN camerawoman of some repute, is dying of breast cancer and living out her days in a hospice. When she was working in Bosnia, she was shot in the face, but returned to work a few weeks later. I just can't see her getting mentioned in UK press when she leaves us, but a CNN obit is assured, which I know counts in some other deadpools. Fortune will favour the brave in next years DDP, someone should take a gamble on them.

    Oscar Niemeyer

Thanks for the tip, prolific guest. I'd like to pay tribute to your long standing efforts to keep us all informed of your firmly held beliefs on this particular subject. Would you be able to tell us when Jose Alencar is going to die? Oscar nominated director Fábio Barreto is indeed very seriously ill and in "a deep coma", after a driving mishap. He might well get mentioned in the English speaking press should he fail to wake up. The next few days will be critical...

    The Dead Of 2009

Big Brother and the Holding Company guitarist James Gurley has died at the age of 70. According to his Wikipedia page: He also enjoyed a brief affair with Janis Joplin and at one point was charged with the murder of his wife, after administering her with a lethal shot of heroin.

    Deathlist 2011

Here's a list that "researchers" might be interested in. Some of the people mentioned might have recovered or died. Others might not get UK obits and I've completely forgotten who some of them are. Anyway, at some point in the past, I've considered them all for deadpools. Deathlist 2011

Wow! Check out the amount of guests reading this thread (there were 73 a minute ago). I had no idea that DL was used this much for deadpooling research. I wonder if there is any mileage in setting up a premium rate "death tips" phone number?

    John Tyndall & Nick Griffin

This is just a rumour, but I've heard on the grapevine that Tom Holmes, the racist elderly leader of what little remains of the National Front, is seriously ill. He didn't attend the NF's annual Remembrance Day march to the Cenotaph this year for the first time in forty years and he doesn't look or sound very healthy in a speech he gave a while ago (search Tom Holmes National Front on You Tube and you'll find it). The problem is, even if this is true, that the NF are such a small organisation now, I'm not even sure he'd get a UK obit when he does make the world a better place by dying.

    The Dead Of 2009

Former South African health minister Manto Tshabalala-Msimang has died at the age of 69. She became infamous for her denial that HIV causes AIDS and gained the nickname Dr Garlic because of her insistence that garlic and other herbs could cure the condition. She was going to be on my 2010 DDP team, so I'll be interested to see if she gets a UK obit. It looks like Alex Higgins will get a reprieve as he'd been dropped in her favour.

    Ronnie James Dio

Ronnie James Dio has undergone his first chemotherapy session according to this update. Despite all the positive language, I don't think he's going to recover from this. There is no mention of him having had any surgery, nor does the article suggest any operation is forthcoming. Sadly for him, surgery is the only realistic hope of a cure for stomach cancer. If he doesn't go under the knife then I would imagine the chemotherapy is only a palliative measure, designed to prolong his life a little. He'll probably announce a new world tour now . I'm sorry to be so morbid on a thread started by Lady Grendel, who I know doesn't like all this sort of talk.
