Animal lover and founder of the Franciscan Order, St Francis Of Assissi, died on Oct 3rd 1226 -
Cryogenically preserved baseball legend Ted Williams has had his head severed, mutliated and used for batting practise.

I don't think it's very serious, Vaagheid, probably just a nasty bout of flu, unless his publicity people are lying through their teeth. Argentine folk star Mercedes Sosa is in hospital suffering from liver and kidney problems and is in a serious condition. If she survives the next few days, she'd be a good deadpool pick for next year. She is hugely famous throughout Latin America and will definitely get a UK obit. Here she is talking about a fish she caught recently...

Oscar Niemeyer has also had a tumour removed from his colon.

The sixth man in space, cosmonaut Pavel Popovich, has popped off.

Why do their wicket keepers look like they're dressed for war? Do they stop for lunch and tea?

Grammy award winning American record producer Greg Ladanyi, who produced Fleetwood Mac's "Behind The Mask" album, has died "of severe head trauma following an on-stage accident last Friday in Cyprus".

I like the honest opinion of our Lib Dem local council candidate, who has described one of his opponents as a 'greasy-haired twat' in his campaign leaflet. Far better to get the opinions out in the open, I think.

From The Sun: Thanks for the tip, Micky.

Lucy Vodden has died. Back to the drawing board for my DDP joker next year!

Donald G. Fisher, who founded clothing retailer , has died of cancer at the age of 81.

Chris Woodhead talks about living with MND. He's still stating his intent to jump off a cliff or something before it all gets too much. If he's a man of his word, then I think he would be a great pick for the 2010 DL.

Indeed. But I wonder what's up with Buffin?

An article about the above came to my attention if anyone cares: http://www.nytimes.com/2006/03/26/realesta...;pagewanted=all Sounds like he'll be around for a while yet... no news on Habsburg though... Ertugrul Osman has died. -
The offender got twelve years in jail. Quite right too, people who show such a moronic lack of respect to fine musical instruments deserve to be dealt with harshly. B..b..b....but. It's A Banjo forchristsakes. What's the definition of a gentleman? Someone who knows how to play the banjo, but doesn't. What's a definition of perfect pitch? Bouncing a banjo off an accordionist's head and into a skip Hmm. As someone who occasionally enjoys a good pluck, I'm not sure I can be persuaded to accede to your view on this particular subject. Just for you - although worryingly, the whole audience seem to have been spiked with Mogadon. I guess you'd probably be happier listening to a long dead, badly recorded, probably blind, possibly devil encountering delta bluesman howling a hardly discernable ditty about how he's lost his dog. As for perfect pitch, that'll be me preforming on the musical saw I got on e-bay last year. I played it again in my local pub recently and this time there were still a few people there when I'd finished. So I'm making progress.

The actor John Hart has died at the age of 92, according to his Wikipedia page. He was a last minute pick on my "Sheer Hart Attack" CPDP theme team.

Cliffs of Despair: A Journey to Suicide's Edge, by Tom Hunt. Everything you ever wanted to know about the lure of Beachy Head. Too much flowery prose and not enough action. C+. -
Minimalists (and other classical composers/musicians)

Pianist Arther Ferrante, the surviving half of Ferrante & Teicher, has apparently died at the age of 88. When they weren't busy making easy listening soundtracks, they spent time collaborating with John Cage, producing strange noises by "adding paper, sticks, rubber, wood blocks, metal bars, chains, glass, mallets, and other objects to piano string beds". -
Noted chef Rose Gray was diagnosed with breast cancer several years ago. She has recently suffered a recurrence of the cancer and has been having radiotherapy to her head - that doesn't bode very well. I've never heard of her, but she's a contributor to The Guardian, so I'm sure they'll let us know if she pops off.

His Majesty is in hospital suffering from "fever and fatigue."

Thanks to YouTube, we can all bear witness to Leonard's tumble. (It's during the last 10 seconds of the video, for those who don't want to be entertained by a quite lovely version of "Bird On A Wire" as a prelude to a fall.)

Oh dear. Ken Jones, an 'inspired' pick for my 2009 DDP team has died. However he won't be scoring me any points given that I have just found out that he died at some point last year, news which didn't reach the public domain at all until rather more recently. http://www.thisiscornwall.co.uk/news/Seal-...il/article.html We live and learn. Well I do anyway, even if he doesn't anymore.
