Where Will The Next School Massacre Be?
DevonDeathTrip replied to maryportfuncity's topic in DeathList Forum
I voted for Norway - their thriving death metal scene and extended hours of darkness must have created a few candidates who'd tick all the right boxes for this sort of thing. It's odd to think that some somewhere out there a youth with mental health problems and access to firearms is probably planning his big day out right now. Pioneering school spree killer Brenda "I Don't Like Mondays" Spencer is up for parole this year. In the interests of equality, it is worth pointing out that these days the activity of gunning down one's school peers is almost exclusively a male hobby. Maybe the next massacre might do something to redress this regrettable imbalance. -
Riad Seif is reported to be "on his deathbed".

I went to see Exeter City play Bournemouth last night. During the match, a fellow fan, he looked quite old, collapsed and died of a heart attack right in front of me . He didn't miss much, as we lost 3-1 on the end, but it's still a shame - there's a good chance he might have missed out on another play off campaign.

People I Was Surprised To Find Are Still Alive

The Sweet Life is over for Signor Pinelli. A unique DDP hit for A Pelican in the Wilderness, should the English-speaking world acknowledge his passing. UK obit for Tullio Pinelli. The Guardian wouldn't let a bewildered pelican down. -

I was half expecting that the next time Alex Higgins was in the news, it would be because he'd died. Not so, he's still playing snooker and raising hell.

Guitarist David Williams, who toured with Madonna, Michael Jackson, Lionel Richie and Van Halen, has died of blood pressure problems at the age of 58.

The Daily Star have said that Jade Goody is "in her final hours". Good to see that her husband is keeping his chin up though.

Jade will die on March 23rd. Do I get any bonus points for announcing her early demise back in 2006? http://www.deathlist.net/forums/index.php?...ost&p=68902

John Christopher's excellent post apocalyptic novel "The Death Of Grass", is the book of the week on Radio 4: http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio4/arts/whour_drama.shtml Doom, gloom and Radio 4, I couldn't be happier. A long forgotten film based on the book is availible on You Tube, it also has a smallish early role from Wendy Richard as a manipualtive tart...... John Christopher (real name Samuel Youd) is still alive, he'll be 87 this year and if he lives until April, he will become one of a rather select band of authors who have lived to see their work published as a Penguin Classic. John Updike was another. Actually, thinking about it, there might be quite a few others. I still think we're all doomed, btw.

Summer Olympic Deaths/Dead Medallists

Former Olympic boxing champion Chris Finnegan has died aged 64. -
Scottish minor comedian and bit part actor Doug Healy is suffering from brain cancer. I don't think he's all that famous, his daughter is the "glamour model" who slept with Ashley Cole, but that doesn't really count for much in the grand scheme of things. Anyway, his plight has been mentioned several times in The Scotsman newspaper, which is now an eligible source of obits for DDP points, so I thought I would make him a bit more famous by putting his name on this thread...

American basketball coach John Wooden, 98, mentioned many times before on DL, is recovering from a bout of pneumonia. Ed McMahon's chances of surviving more than a few days don't look too good, the several teams who've picked him on the DDP may be hoping he surives until expiring on 6th March - his birthday.

Welcome Sub Zero. If you ever have any news on Jose Alencar's health, please let us know. I predicted he might die this year, but I don't know if his recent surgery has completely cured him or not. -
Ariel Sharon's family have been asked to remove him from hospital and return him to the family home, where he would continue to receive full time nursing care. His family have refused to facilitate his discharge and this has caused some discontent in the Israeli media. His son, Gilad, has come in for some special criticism as he is alleged to have "turned a room in the respiratory ward at Sheba into his private office, in which he manages his private business, holds meetings with people, and generally acts as if it were his office.” http://www.israelnationalnews.com/News/News.aspx/130160

Clarence Swensen - another Munchkin bites the dust. Only eight left now. -
I think I might have made a mistake of leaving her out of my DDP team, after seeing that... I did. I have a feeling my DDP teams are like the Star Trek films, the even numbers (2006, 2008) are good. Still, early days... Looking at the DDP scoreboard, I see that the teams in first and second place did pick Wendy Richard, but the teams in third, fourth, fifth and sixth didn't. If we equate this to a mountain stage on the Tour De France, it means that Raskolnikov's lone breakaway continues, I'm out in the wilderness somewhere trying desperately to catch up with him and the tightly bunched pelaton, led by MPFC, are a fair distance behind having reigned in the other chasers. Early days yet, though, many more mountains to climb.

Deadly Doug will probably be starting a thread soon to advise us of her sad demise.
