    Sir Bobby Robson

Bobby Robson is still well enough to open a Northern Rock bank account . (But he had to do it online as he was too ill to visit the store in person...)

    Chris Langham

    I really hate this thread.

    Janez DrnovšEk

Janez Drnovsek has not been seen in public since July, sparking further speculation about his health. He is supposed to be meeting Prince Andrew next week, it will be interesting to see if he keeps his appointment.

    The Dead - 2007

One of Britain's biggest importers of wine, Thierry Cabanne, has been killed after the car he was driving collided with a telegraph pole. (I mean to say that he imported more wine than almost anyone else, not that he was physically bigger than most other wine importers ) Is it just me or is wine getting stronger? I'm sure there is more 13% and 13.5% stuff around than there used to be.

    The Dead - 2007

I use a password manager to remember my passwords, but I'm not typing this from my normal computer. To make things worse, my password is a generated one, so quite difficult to remember. I had to write it down on a slip of paper to get this going. Anyway, thanks for the welcome back, y'all. I intend to be around more, but my internet access is a bit unreliable, so don't get confused if I'm not logging on every day. regards, Hein He lives !! Welcome back Hein, I'm so pleased you're not dead. Well done.

    Ideas and possibilities for 2008

nothing there to suggest his death is anywhere near imminent though Well Iain, he collapsed recently, he's suffered from cancer for years and recent press articles have mentioned his deteriorating health. He has also reached the ripe old age of 83 in a country when the average life expectancy is 58. In light of that, I would suggest it is entirely reasonable to mention him in a thread for people who might die next year. Besides, I think it's a bit rich for you to be giving advice on quality control.

Atal Bihari Vajpayee, 83, former Prime Minister of India, isn't doing too well. He collapsed last month and was taken to hospital complaining of giddiness and drowsiness. He has previously suffered from kidney cancer and this article from way back in 2000 says that he has prostate cancer.

    From Cleric To Relic

Dead He had such a fine name that I was going to put him on my DDP next year, so I'll be interested to see if he gets a UK obit. I think he might struggle to get one, but I didn't think he'd actually die, so I wasn't that worried. I've crossed his name out on the opening post of this thread. My money is on Patriarch Maxim of Bulgaria dying next, apparently he's very prone to colds and chest infections and the nights are getting colder...

    Football

I am happy to report that American Samoa have made massive leaps since their 31-0 defeat by Australia. No team that they played in the South Pacific Games managed to even get 20 against them. Their results were: Solomon Islands 12 - American Samoa 1 American Samoa 0 - Samoa 7 Tonga 4 - American Samoa 0 American Samoa 0 - Vanuatu 15 I do think that if England were to play them in a friendly, the result could be most morale boosting.

    Derby Dead Pool 2007

More news on the Bali bombers. This is going to be a close run thing, they're all going to get shot...but the wheels of justice in Indonesia turn so slowly, I reckon it might not happen until 2008. A statement released today isn't exactly contrite.

    Ariel Sharon

I think Ariel Sharon should be ashamed of his carbon footprint. All those machines plugged in non stop for 18 months must have used a fair bit of electricity. It's a disgrace. I think the hospital should have a power cut.

    Dame Anita Roddick

I believe Fossett to be alive as well, having shunned the trappings of wealth and choosing instead to live a hermetic lifestyle in the wilds of the Sierra Nevada. Edit - Sorry, I didn't know this wasn't the Steve Fossett thread.

Shih Ming-Teh still well enough to address 50000 pro democracy campaigners, no mention of lung cancer either, but liver cancer by itself is bad enough. He's on my DDP team so I was rather cheered to read this: Sadly his wife, who rather selfishly did not take my DDP team in to consideration, talked him out of it. But I wouldn't have thought is cancer prognosis is terribly good if he's thinking of setting himself on fire. Nothing to lose and all that. "Asia's Mandela" will get loads of obits when he shuffles off.

    Quiz Time

I'll plump for the mighty Reds' very own (and current member of the Can We Not Knock It fantasy footy team) Stevie F, who I reckon achieved the feat with Welling, Notts County, Fulham, Ireland and of course Liverpool. You are correct. Well done.

Who is the only footballer, still playing, to have played in all four English divisions and all three Scottish divisions? Can you name the only player who has appeared in The Premiership, The Championship, the First and Second Divisions, the Conference, the World Cup finals, The Inter Toto cup, and Champions League final?

The Rev. Fred L. Shuttlesworth, 85, renowned American civil rights leader who campaigned alongside Martin Luther King, is in intensive care after suffering a stroke. He was not in the best of health before his stroke, having been treated for a brain tumour in 2005. He was very nearly killed by the Ku Klux Klan in 1956 (dynamite planted under his house) and again in 1957 (attacked by mob)

St. Lucia's Prime Minister Sir John Compton, died last night at the age of 82.

Authors Last A Long Time, But....

Norman Mailer, 84, has just spent five days in hospital with "laboured breathing." He's back home now, but worth keeping an eye on. I didn't know he'd been married six times.

    Ideas and possibilities for 2008

The King is OK, but his son and heir, Crown Prince Paras, is in hospital after suffering a heart attack. He is not liked in Nepal, due to killing a much loved Nepali pop star in a car crash seven years ago - sort of akin to Prince Charles having a weak moment and mowing down Natasha Bedingfield in his Landrover.

Sir John Compton's health has worsened and he is now in intensive care. Might be a unique hit for Windsor on the CPDP coming up... Excellent. I was hoping he would make it until DDP time, but oh well. I'm sure he'll get some sort of UK obit given that he is still Prime Minister of one of the Queen's Realms. He also has a wiki page so that leaves me with very little to worry about (except a recovery). Sir John Compton, still hooked up to a life support system, has come home to die. The acting Prime Minister has this to say: Not long now, Windsor.

    Luciano Pavarotting.

Pavarotti is unconscious and his kidneys have stopped working. His condition is "very grave". I think we all know what's going to happen next
