Yes - there were a few far fetched theories at the time that he might have swum out to be collected by a Chinese submarine. Rather unlikely I would have thought.

Lord Bill Deedes was on TV t'other night remembering Profumo. He looked spectacularly ancient, although mentally alert, he's nearly 93. A good bet for 2007.

Read Any Good Books Lately?

Indeed, she was rather popular with the crowds lining the Coronation route in 1953. She rode open carriage in the rain and enthusiastically waved to the crowds. Obviously they were easily pleased back in 1953... From Robert Lacy - Royal historian: Well Queen Salote was an enormously large but very genial and smiling lady who .... became a unofficial star of the Coronation. And there's a famous joke told about her. She rode in the carriage totally undeterred by all the rain that was pouring down, refusing the umbrella that some other people used. And apparently Noel Coward was watching the procession and as he saw the carriage go by with Queen Salote and a rather insignificant little man in front of her, who was king or prince of some other part of the Commonwealth in those days. Somebody said to Noel Coward - who is that sitting with Queen Salote - and he looked very hard and then pronounced "her lunch"! That became one of the great jokes of the Coronation. -
I know that feeling

I know it's very sad and square - but I'm reading a biography of the King of Tonga by Amaraki Taulahi. It's actually very good, the King's Mother, Queen Salote was quite a charactor. -
If it is allowed, I'm off to Ebay to look for surface to air missile launchers IT's sad (so sad) when they start quoting theirself. (themself) It was just an afterthought, Mr B (Bruno) - maybe I should have edited it instead, I (me) share your (you) sadness. Best fix yourself a brandy

I was thinking of entering a team for the DDP next year called "Plane Crash Premonition" and pick the Chelsea first team, subs, manager and Roman Abramovich. If, on the off chance, their plane fell out of the sky, I'd be a dead cert winner, with all those unique picks and under 50s. Rude Kid, would this be allowed?

An Arizona fire chief was arrested this weekend after being found in his neighbour's barn with his trouser down and a lamb by his side. Leroy Johnson had been drinking and was observed dragging the animal into his barn. When confronted by his neighbour, Mr Alan Goats, he confessed saying, "You caught me Alan, I tried to f*ck your sheep":

I once stayed awake for six days. I won't be doing it again.

I think if Iain got himself a big scary avatar, people might be a bit nicer to him.

Entropy - what do you know about the rumours about Prince Andrew? I've heard he doesn't shun the company of men... if you get my drift

That's a tremendous find! Job's a good 'un. I'm guessing it was a google search which led to a "Buy King Taufa'ahau at Amazon" advertisement? Awesome... I wonder if there's a ukelele orchestra piece on it? I'm sure a hundred or so passing russian sailors would have been happy to oblige with a George Formby number or two. DDT, let us know if it's any good. It arrived today. A truly awesome piece of work, words fail me at this point. I am going to attempt to mix his millenium message with "What Time Is Love" by the KLF. (I haven't asked His Majestys permission, but he wouldn't mind, would he?)

I agree. I'm thinking of writing to Amnesty International to see if they will supply me with a list of their 20 "Most Endangered" prisoners. -

Latest reports suggest my DDP joker is starving and vulnerable to disease. -
I knew deathlisters would help me with my post-traumatic stress !! At least I didn't do what this man does

I ran over a badger last night on the way home from work. It didn't die outright, I had to finish it off with a shovel.

Dick Francis - author and jockey will be 86 this year. He hasn't written a book since 2000, used to write one every year. Could it be that his race is run?

The Chuckle Brothers. There is something very sinister about those two. I'm not sure what, but I don't like them.
