dead Hilary Lister & other sailing nutjobs
DevonDeathTrip replied to maryportfuncity's topic in DeathList Forum
Two intrepid amateur sailors, Bob Weise and Steve Shapiro, both in their seventies, have been rescued nine times so far in their quest to sail from Norway to the US. They have only made it as far as Cornwall and will need to rapidly improve upon their sailing skills if they are to make it across the Atlantic without further incident. -
Dead Dave Swarbrick (And Fairport Convention)
DevonDeathTrip replied to Death Watch Beatle's topic in DeathList Forum
Health update on Dave Swarbrick. * A non-conventional folk reggae epic I really hope he pulls through. Swarbrick is a legend and the world will be a much poorer place without him. Nobody comes up with tunes like Sir B MacKenzie any more: -
Yahoo News obit for tabla maestro Shankar Ghosh.

I hadn't heard of Cracker Barrel until I read about it on this thread, so I've checked out their menu. I must admit I'm not that impressed, but if I had to eat there, I'd visit for breakfast and not lunch/dinner. However eating a fried breakfast served with "sawmill gravy", whatever the hell that is, could be an interesting experience.

Authors Last A Long Time, But....
DevonDeathTrip replied to maryportfuncity's topic in DeathList Forum
Donald G. Payne, who, under the pseudonym James Vance Marshall, wrote the novel Walkabout, is now 92 and hasn't been mentioned before on DL, so I just thought I'd throw his name into the mix. The book was later turned into the film starring Jenny Agutter. -
It took him 18 months, but at least he did it with dignity and in private without having to notify the media every 10 minutes. That's what I meant. Ultimately she knows that publicity will increase sales of the upcoming album. Unlike Bowie, I doubt Joey or Rory Feek are very rich, so maybe they decided to go down this route to help provide financially for their young child.

Norwegian photographer Kjell Sandved, 93, renowned for his work capturing the detail in butterfly wings, died last month. I like this effort.

Thank you TMIB, enjoy a well earned couple of days off! Pleased to see I've managed to score with a unique pick for the seventh year in a row.

I am not afraid of death and positively look forward to the peace and quiet that I hope comes with it.

Vagrants, Tramps, Homeless Eccentrics And Hermits
DevonDeathTrip replied to VSBfromH's topic in DeathList Forum
Noted Siberian hermit Agafya Lykova, 71, the last surviving member of the reclusive Lykov family, has been evacuated by helicopter from her home in the wilderness in order to receive medical treatment. Vice produced a documentary about Lykova a couple of years ago. She didn't meet anyone from outside her immediate family until she was over thirty years old. -
If things had gone really badly, they could have slipped in a David Bowie tribute "... Ground Control to Major Tim, your circuit's dead there's something wrong...."

https://youtu.be/4phB_8b9uqo I didn't know Rene Angelil was a performer in his own right. This footage is from 1965.

Think Sir Creep has five less points now than he did at the last update?
-
Totally agree. If anyone ever deserves a 'like' for their post, it'll be TMIB when he announces that the teams have been uploaded. The rules to the competition could be debated ad infinitum, but I'm glad we're not forgetting the massive effort TMIB is putting in right now, just so we have a game to argue about in the first place.

Songs You Can Go The Rest Of Your Life Without Hearing Again
DevonDeathTrip replied to Phantom's topic in DeathList extra-curricular
Black Sheets of Rain, by Bob Mould. The whole album. I listened to it so much in my angst ridden teens that every note is still ingrained on my psyche. -
Someone posted on a Lynch forum the other day that Ontkean has serious heart problems, which is why he pulled out of the new Twin Peaks venture. P.S David Bowie appeared in a Lynch film

Who Will Be The Living End's 100Th Hit?
DevonDeathTrip replied to msc's topic in DeathList extra-curricular
I voted for Errol Christie, but I've got an awful feeling it will be cancer mum Mary Lucas and I'll deservedly get slaughtered for it -
Lemmy's funeral is going to be livestreamed on Youtube. It starts in half an hour. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qSAXVdIj6jY

Pat Harrington Jnr died last night - I'm sure a link will appear to this effect shortly. Must rush!

Cuban salsa trumpeter Alfredo "Chocolate" Armenteros dead. He was my joker for the Deathrace, but no English language write ups yet. I didn't pick him for the DDP, as I wasn't sure he'd get the right obituary, but I see Death Impends did, so fingers crossed for him.

Morbidkid probably arrived at that conclusion because of the information on my profile page: Location Sickville, Tennessee

Not that anyone else cares about her beyond getting the deadpool points....but as someone who had heard of her before she got ill (see above), I can recommend her books. IMO there is a strong Doris Lessing influence to her work, although Diski might not agree with this assessment. Not a stranger to taxing mental states herself, Diski writes very eloquently about madness and, as well as some of her more recent tweets, Rainforest (1990, available here for just 1p + P&P) is an excellent example of a descent into insanity... Not her daughter, although Diski was taken in - basically off the streets- by Lessing in the early 1960s.

Snowballs/sweepstakes Of Death
DevonDeathTrip replied to Pedro67's topic in DeathList extra-curricular
As Pedro says, not for sweepstakes, but you can't just walk in to William Hill and place a bet on Zsa-Zsa dying before the end of the year. However I *think* you can bet money on her living to the age of 100. Even with sweepstakes, if big money started changing hands, the authorities might take notice and alter the law accordingly. They wouldn't want another Taiwan situation, where residents of a town got a bit carried away and gambled a total of $30m on who would be next to die in their local hospital. Although death sweepstakes are legal, tontines remain illegal under the British Life Assurance Act 1774. Further tontine discussion on DL here and here. -
