    Rugby Players

Alfred George Manu, 53, from an unexpected collapse. He played in New Zealand's rugby league premiership, before opting for a life in the Cook Islands. Maybe not famous in the traditional sense, but he would have been a household name in his adopted homeland (population 17,000) and I liked his obit on the rarely cited Cook Islands News website, so thought I'd give him a mention.

    Deathlist Cup 2023

Thank you. That's my interpretation as well. During my thoroughly enjoyable hour of barrel scraping the other night, I came across a reference to Father Pat Travers entering a hospice. When I googled him to check his 'fame' credentials I was confused by copious references to a different Father Pat Travers in Alaska and put him on my list. It was all done in haste and there was no intention to deceive. @YoungWillz Father Pat (my replacement joker) died on 1st June, he replaced my original joker, Brother Camillus, who died on 31st May. It's all irrelevant anyway at this point without an obit.

Oh Lord. I may need to unpick this after work.

Some unfolding drama here at the DDT festival of death. Spade will be along to explain later.

    Humanity Itself

In these troubled times of global warming, diminishing fuel reserves, religious unrest, rogue nuclear states etc etc, I was wondering how fellow Deathlisters feel about the future. Most of us aren't that ancient, do you think we stand a chance of dying peacefully in our beds, or will we live to see a time when mankind will "reap the whirlwind" for our destructive habits? Will Earth ever see a nuclear winter? Could an invented disease mutate and kill us all? Might overpopulation and starvation lead inexorably towards worldwide anarchy and murder? Even if we overcome or prevent man made problems, aren't we overdue a supervolcano which could block out the sun for years? I do wonder more and more if we are not at "five minutes to midnight" and, in fact, there are only a few seconds to go. Or am I worrying too much? Discuss.

    Humanity Itself

AI technology may finish us all off, according to some people who invented it. I don't really understand any of this, or how exactly I will meet my doom and will just have to endure in blissful ignorance until the day comes.

    Derby Dead Pool 2023

I love it how the team I only just managed to put together on 31st December, while in the midsts of a truly horrendous bout of flu, is faring better than the more carefully considered efforts of recent years .

    Paul Simon and Art Garfunkel

As @Joey Russ mentioned in the pop thread, these two giants of the music scene probably deserve a thread of their own. Simon is about to stop touring and Garfunkel is a genuine eccentric, always coming up with stuff to keep us amused. I wouldn't like to guess which one will go first, but feel it is right that we have a thread in place as they progress into their autumn years.

    Dead Pop Stars

Really sad about Rita Lee. Os Mutantes were a very great band in their own special way. Nothing like a bit of experimental Brazilian psychedelia to brighten up a dull afternoon.

    Deathlist Cup 2023

I don't really pretend to understand advanced computing, but might progress in real time AI generated research take things to a whole new level in deadpooling?

    Len Goodman

I've honestly never heard of this man. However, this time, even my own family are giving me abuse for my ignorance and not only that, but @Paul Bearer knows who he is as well. Obviously life is passing me by, but I can't believe the rest of humanity seems to watch Come Dancing now.

    Political Discussions And Ranting Thread

Confused about why the cops are digging up Nicola Sturgeon's back garden. Although...there was something about the SNP missing 30,000 members.

    Fleetwood Mac

Why hasn't anyone from Fleetwood Mac died yet? It's not right and proper for an iconic 60s group to have a 0% death rate. The three mad guitarists, Spencer, Green and Kirwan all live, Fleetwood and McVie are still plodding along, Steve Nicks survived taking enough drugs to kill a whole girl band, not even any of their many less illustrious former members have kicked the bucket. Suggestions for the first one to tango in to the goodnight? I think it will be Danny Kirwan, who was living as a vagrant at one point, but is now believed to be spending his days in warden controlled sheltered accomodation.

    They Say We're Sick

Meanwhile, news from the - seemingly thriving - genital nullification subculture, or 'Nullo' for short Man 'filmed himself castrating other men' so they could appear on his 'eunuch maker' website as 'secret society' face trial .

    Deathlist Cup 2023

Jon Bruce, a legend of the Sheffield Eagles rugby league team and, latterly a new signing for my Deathlist Cup squad, has succumbed to cancer, aged just 51. Aside from a tribute on the team's site, he hasn't seen any other obit action yet.

    Famous farmers and agricultural people

Sheep farmer Joss Naylor MBE, more renowned for his fell-running exploits, is 87 today. He was still running daily until he had a stroke in December 2021. A very tough man indeed, but I thought I'd put his name out there as he has only been mentioned once before on these forums.

    Missing In Action

I must say, her partner's comment in an interview today that he is "a hundred percent sure" she isn't in the river was an interesting choice of words.
