Mikko Laine, guitarist for widely unknown and probably awful Finnish progressive-melancholic-metal band Sole Remedy, run over and killed by a truck as he dozed backstage.

Australian author Sara Douglass has announced on her website that she is suffering from advanced ovarian cancer.

Chris Woodhead was on Radio 4 tonight when I was driving home from work. He sounded OK, all things considering.

Did you take your own advice and pick her up this year? I must confess that she missed the cut on my list for once, so poor judgement means no points for me. No points for me and possibly good judgement on your part, for Sara Douglass hasn't yet got the required UK obituary. I did think that she'd get a mention somewhere, but no news source this side of the equator has noted her passing. I was surprised by this, but perhaps she only became famous in own my mind as I'd been keeping up with her health news since 2008. Even so, when you think of the complete and utter nobodies who the Guardian give obituaries to, you might expect that a multi million selling author like Sara Douglass to almost a fairly safe bet. It's a funny old game. Ah well, at least I didn't pick her as my joker. *Waves at Toast *

Things To Do While Waiting For Death
DevonDeathTrip replied to football_fan's topic in DeathList extra-curricular
Blimey! So it is. I stared for ages, decided there wasn't a cat there and then stared a bit more after I'd convinced myself it was one of those magic eye pictures. Actually the shape of a cat was beginning to form in my befuddled mind, see carefully constructed illustration below. Little did I know that the real feline was sat on top of my imagined cat's eyeball. Great post LG! -
Authors Last A Long Time, But....
DevonDeathTrip replied to maryportfuncity's topic in DeathList Forum
Grumpy children's author Maurice Sendak, the author of Where The Wild Things Are, might be worth a punt. He is now 83 and says he's been suffering from heart problems since the death of his partner a few years ago, as well as mentioning he wants to die a "yummy death". I liked Sendak's blunt assessment of some of his contemporaries : -
Jonah Lomu is in hospital and "in really bad shape'' with kidney problems.

It's all over now...

Over four years on and all nine of Banshees Scream's bold predicitions remain obstinately still alive . However General Jaruzelski is in hospital yet again with heart problems and might do well to see 2011, let alone 2012... Now General Jaruzelski is back in hospital with pleurisy. It wont kill him, but these things just keep adding up. The pleurisy might not kill him, but the cancer probably will. Lech Walesa has paid a reconciliatory hospital visit to his old nemesis General Jaruzelski, who is evidently finding living with cancer and pneumonia a bit of a struggle. Given that both have been discussed on these forums has possibilities, I thought the photo below gives a pretty graphic illustration of their contrasting health fortunes.

Texas has banned the traditional last meal for condemned prisoners on death row. A killjoy Senator has been irked by some recent spurious requests. Lawrence Brewer: Cleve Foster: Steven Woods: Years ago, a Texas inmate even requested:

Could the assisted death industry be about to change forever? Shares in Dignitas will no doubt, ahem, plummet, if crackpot Lithunaian boffin Julijonas Urbonas can find someone to build his prototype "Euthanasia Rollercoaster", apparently sure to provide it's passengers with a quick and euphoric death.

Clifford Robert Olson, one of Canada's most notorious serial killers, is dying of cancer. According to his family he only has "days to live", but that phrase seems to get banded about quite alot when ill prisoners are concerned (see the above mentioned and still breathing Brendan Lillis). As long as he manages another 101 days, he's worth keeping an eye on.

Yes, did you see this? http://www.abc.net.au/news/2011-08-04/afl-...kennett/2824594 Here is the latest: http://www.abc.net.au/news/2011-08-05/styn...ecovery/2826628 Sounds really bad for Stynes. Yes I did read it, not looking good for him at all. As far as "tanking" is concerned, I struggle to understand why a club (in any sport) would intentionally loose in order to pick up the top draft picks for the year. Then come back the following season, and the one after that and the one after that, and perform just as badly as they did before - a waste of young talented players. Number one pick should go to number nine on the ladder. Doesn't look like the latest round of surgery went very well. Maybe the end is near?

Belize's founding father and first prime minister George Price has died in hospital at the age of 92. The cause of death was a blood clot on his brain, sustained after he fell in his bath tub a few days ago.

I never did find out what was wrong with John Calley, so I reluctantly dropped him from this year's DDP entry. According to his Wiki page, he made this cryptic statement last year when he won his Oscar: . That could mean anything from mild depression to terminal cancer. If anyone ever finds out what's bothering him, please let us know. Oh balls. I dropped John Calley from my DDP squad at the last minute in favour of the seemingly indestructable Jim Stynes, who I'd hazard a guess will just make it to 2012. I liked that obit, Calley comes across as a bit of a fragile character.

I kept Moogy Klingman on my radar and it just bleeped. Todd Rungdren reformed Utopia earlier this year to play some benefit gigs for Klingman, who is suffering from cancer. Not many sites specify what sort of cancer he's got, but a bit of googling found this article from 2010, which confirms Klingman has bladder cancer, which has now spread throughout his body . Not entirely sure of his UK obit chances though?

Probably the wrong thread, but take a look at the , who came within a tyre's width of getting squashed during motorcycle GP qualifying at Indianapolis this week.

Oh that is a shame. I used to love his "Who The Hell" column in Q Magazine. I've probably led a very sheltered life, but I don't think I've ever laughed as much at an article, as I did when I read his interview/stitch up of Jerry Lee Lewis. RIP Tom. A much, much better writer than David Quantick IMO.

Have you seen the rather excellent Al Jazeera documentary Net Losses? The programme was in a similar vein to the one you posted, featuring the forces of good (Exeter City, AFC Chester, etc) vs the forces of evil (Liverpool, Manchester Utd, Plymouth Argyle). ECFC have signed no one today. We may need to get another whipround sorted before the new year.
