    Old Folkies Home

It appears Bert had, and hopefully beat, lung cancer last year. Sadly, it doesn't look like Bert Jansch has beaten his cancer yet...

    The Dead Of 2011

The actor Noel Collins, who played Sergeant George Parrish in Juliet Bravo, has died after a fifteen year battle with lung cancer. After his diagnosis, he was one of a group of claimants who unsuccessfully attempted to sue tobacco companies for not reducing the tar content in their cigarettes.

    Assisted Suicides

"Martin", a stroke victim who no longer wants to live, is in the news at the moment for launching a legal bid, asking for the right to die. Even if the courts do not find in his favour, he might do a Chantal Sébire

    Ideas And Possibilities For 2012

It isn't often that a Native American Indian gets to feature on this these pages, but the activist and actor Russell Means may well get a UK obituary before very long, following his recent diagnosis of esophageal cancer.

    The Welsh

I'll leave it up to any Welshmen on this forum to decide if they are insulted or deeply gratified to be considered "foreign" by you Poms. Meanwhile, Sif Ruud has rudely departed at the age of 95. She was the star of a number of Ingmar Bergman films including It Rains on Our Love, Wild Strawberries and The Magician, so this is a big loss for the world of non-English language cinema: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sif_Ruud Pobol y Cwm is performed in Welsh ... that makes it foreign. I did look for the Eminent Welshmen thread, but there isn't one. Never say I don't do anything around the house. Deathlisters might also like to use the Talk Like A Taff and The Welsh Film Industry threads as points of reference.

    George Bush Senior

I see that Lauren Bush, great niece of George H.W. Bush, is to be betrothed to Ralph Lauren's son, David. That will make her married name Lauren Lauren.

    Football

I'm seriously tempted to bet on Exeter playing Liverpool in the Championship next season. Very reasonable odds at 294/1. Exeter have just drawn Liverpool at home in the 2nd round of the Carling Cup.

    Hooroo, Mate.

Yes, did you see this? http://www.abc.net.au/news/2011-08-04/afl-...kennett/2824594 Here is the latest: http://www.abc.net.au/news/2011-08-05/styn...ecovery/2826628 Sounds really bad for Stynes. Yes I did read it, not looking good for him at all. As far as "tanking" is concerned, I struggle to understand why a club (in any sport) would intentionally loose in order to pick up the top draft picks for the year. Then come back the following season, and the one after that and the one after that, and perform just as badly as they did before - a waste of young talented players. Number one pick should go to number nine on the ladder. Doesn't look like the latest round of surgery went very well.

Probably best posted in the ideas and possibilities thread? I'm trying to post a bit less in that thread. I was worried people might think I was a wierdo.

    The Monkees

You're probably right, but... I can't see the problem with useless speculation myself. That's what this site is all about. Twitter searching "Peter Tork"... apparently he played a gig 18 hours ago? Maybe Mickey Dolenz is dying instead? Could be. This site is uselessly speculating that the tour was cancelled as they all hate each other.
