Brazilian former Vice President Jose Alencar has been released from hospital after five weeks, having survived a nasty bout of peritoinitis. He has returned home, but, if Google translate has got it right, the treatment he was receiving for cancer has now been suspended. Perhaps he is now entering the palliative phase.

Psychedelic icon Owsley Stanley has been killed in a car crash in Australia. He wasn't a musician, but managed the Greatful Dead for a while, as well as manufacturing vast amounts of LSD. The song Purple Haze and the band Blue Cheer are alleged to have been named after the acid trips he produced. -

Oft mentioned country crooner Ferlin Husky has taken his annual trip to intensive care and is apparently in a critical condition, although his family say he is "getting better".

Chris Dale, given an exceedingly fine write up by the Daily Telegraph -
I never like to see a decent thread sink with no replies, so I've had a listen. Mind you, I'll do anything to block out the horrific screaming sounds coming from "One Born Every Minute" which Mrs DDT insists on watching. Yes she does have a lovely voice, but I'm afraid I have been able to find no information whatsoever about her current circumstances. I wonder how many more posts there will be on this thread until the inevitable dead stamp brings things to a natural conclusion.

I never did find out what was wrong with John Calley, so I reluctantly dropped him from this year's DDP entry. According to his Wiki page, he made this cryptic statement last year when he won his Oscar: . That could mean anything from mild depression to terminal cancer. If anyone ever finds out what's bothering him, please let us know.

Brian Haw has lung cancer and is currently receiving treatment abroad. There's a nice, quirky article here about how he has spurned the offer of traditional NHS chemotherapy, preferring to seek treatment from a crackpot Italian doctor who believes that cancer is actually a fungus which can be cured by... baking powder . The doctor in question, Tullio Simoncini, has been disqualified from practicing medicine. Haw's outlook doesn't look too good really:

The Daily Mail have just removed a story from their website which said Steve Jobs has been told he only has six weeks to live. Edit - they've republished the article, I don't think the original paid sufficient props to their source - the ever reliable National Enquirer! http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-13...weeks-live.html
