The boxer Danny Nardico has died at the age of 85. . Coincidently at the same time that Nardico was punching the living daylights out of our long time DL favourite - New Years Eve 1952 - the country star Hank Williams was dying in the back of a Cadillac in Ohio. Sadly I have no news of Jake. Sorry. Will try harder next time.

Johannes Heesters has been a trending topic on Twitter this afternoon. I thought that meant the 106 year old had finally carked it. Not so, but he has given up smoking.

My money's on pretty conclusive evidence of arsenic-based organic molecules on one the moons of Saturn. Thus proving organic nonterresrtrial life exists and doesn't necessarily take the form we'd expected previously. I'm happy to be proven wrong, as whatever it is, it's going to be interesting. Like I said though; moons of Saturn I suppose that would be exotic enough in it's own little way. Perhaps I should have reigned in my expectations a little more. I was hoping for something a a wee bit more exciting...

I didn't know where to post this, but NASA are to make an important announcement at a press conference tomorrow about a "finding that will impact the search for evidence of extraterrestrial life. "

The tabloids will probably gift us DDP points with a report, as and when. I can't find any mention of it anywhere else, but according to this he's dead. However, no UK obit. Even more however, he seemingly died "last year"... Could it be that Joe Stone is still alive? Cancel that - the story is from 2007. Sorry. -
Nigel Callaghan has undergone further surgery after his cancer spread to the liver...

Drat. I was hoping to keep at least one of the four above quiet as a secret DDP pick... Hello OoO, I hope you're enjoying being a father. I won the DDP the year I became a parent, it helped put me things in perspective and realise that life brings so much more joy than death. Ref the previous post, they were my secret DDP picks as well, but, for various reasons, they're now my DDP cast offs, so everyone else is welcome to them. Anyway, I'm not quite as forthcoming on this thread as I used to be, so hopefully I won't sink all of your ships. Veteran Hong Kong democracy campaigner Szeto Wah is battling lung cancer and is too ill to travel at the moment, which doesn't bode too well. I can't decide on his obit chances, though, so he's out. Professor Mark Cato, is dying of motor neurone disease and helpfully detailing his decline and fall on a blog. Again, I'm not 100% sure about his obit chances and therefore he won't make the squad. Also, for some reason MND sufferers tend to do badly in my deadpool teams. Rosie Kilburn, only 18 and possibly next year's version of Josie Grove. But then again, she could be next years Joanne Evans and not get an obit, or she could be next year's Kristen Hallenga and survive for longer than anyone might expect. I hope she does.

Bob Woodward, founder and head of the children's cancer charity CLIC is to retire at the age of 78. He has been suffering from inoperable prostate cancer since 2003. Former New Zealand All Black Doug Rollerson, more recently convicted of fraud, is also suffering from inoperable prostate cancer. Clive Derby-Lewis, once an MP in South Africa, now serving life in prison for arranging a murder, is suffering from skin cancer and prostate cancer "which has spread to other organs" according to his lawyer (so treat with caution). He also has gangrene and has had a leg amputated as a result. "Honey, I Shrunk The Kids" actress Marcia Strassman has been living with stage IV mestastatic breast cancer since 2007. Despite her gloomy prognosis, she looks remarkably well in the video that comes with the article. Gaelic football star Liam Hayes has been diagnosed with a high grade form of non-Hodgkins lymphoma. That's all.

Three of those, Sutcliffe, Huntley and Brady are locked up in institutions for the criminally insane. Sutcliffe was passed fit to stand trial but was almost certainly bonkers from the off. Too many police, journalists and members of the public, for that matter, were keen to have the full grizzly details of his killings aired in court and I can understand that. It was probably right that people saw justice being done. Had an insanity plea been accepted many people would have seen that as an injustice. But he was bonkers nevertheless. It's a peculiar situation as in most cases you probably have to be damaged mentally to commit murder. The courts, if not Sun readers society, are more forgiving of children who commit murder who tend to be released after a few years with new identities in the belief that they can be redeemed. It happened with Mary Bell and with the killers of Jamie Bolger. Whether this represents justice for the victims is debatable. If I was an MP with a free vote I'd probably vote against the death penalty but wouldn't lose sleep about the welfare of any of the above. When a society begins to concentrate more on the rights of the killer and less on the rights of the victim it's beginning to lose a proper sense of justice. Point of order. I'm pretty sure that Ian Huntley is still in a mainstream prison and has never spent time in a psychiatric institution. Also, don't forget that Ian Brady was fit to plea at his trial and didn't enter psychiatric care until he'd been behind bars for nearly twenty years.

Paramedics have arrived to Zsa Zsa Gabor's Beverly Hills mansion -- after the actress' private doctor spotted what he believes is a "massive blood clot" ... this according to Gabor's rep. We're told Zsa Zsa had complained about pain and swelling in one of her legs early this morning -- so Zsa Zsa's people asked her doc to make a house call. The rep says the doctor discovered what appeared to be a "massive blood clot" in her leg -- and immediately called 911 after expressing concern that the clot could make its way towards Zsa Zsa's heart. UPDATE: The ambulance has transported Zsa Zsa to the hospital. http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/gossip/201...-blod-clot.html
