Didn't know Supergran was still alive! That has made my day! I just found an interesting, if slightly obscure one: Georges Henry, a French jazz musician who played alongside the likes of Django Reinhardt and Henri Salvador, is still alive. He was born in 1919: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Georges_Henry Yup indeed, can't say the same for her old nemesis Scunner Campbell aka Ian Cuthbertson, died not too long ago. Quite a few still hanging on worth watching out for, like American fitness guru Jack Lalanne, 96, though he could still be here 10 years from now, not that well-known over here but his death would probably make the news, he was one of the pioneers of modern fitness culture. Bill Kerr is another, aged 88, best known for being on Hancock's Half Hour during it's radio days, think he's the only surviving main cast member. Also Fyvush Finkel, 88, seen fairly recently if only fleetingly in the Coen Brothers' A Serious Man. And lets not forget the nations favourite gaffe-maker, Prince Philip, think he hits the big 9-0 this year?

Has anyone mentioned Sir Rhodes Boyson, the former Tory Cabinet member and renowned CP-advocate? Will turn 86 this year and is now in a nursing home according to Wikipedia. Mugabe turns 87 on 17th February, may not see the year out, has a pretty demanding job after all, perhaps his loathsome regime will die with him. Ex-Free World leaders Jimmy Carter and George Bush Sr. both turn 87 this year also, Carter has even made his own funeral arrangements already...

Staying with sitcom veterans, here a few to keep an eye on; 1) Patricia Routledge (Hyacinth Bucket) - 82 on 17th February 2) Edna Dore (though perhaps best known for playing Mo Butcher in EastEnders) - 88 or 89 3) Liz Smith - 89, retired in assisted living 4) June Whitfield - 85 5) Peter Sallis - 90 on 1st February 6) Richard O'Sullivan - 66 (in a retirement home after suffering a stroke in 2003) Other TV stars worth a mention are Bill 'Arthur Fowler' Treacher - 80 some evidence of stress-related illness perhaps? Corrie's Queen of the hotpots Betty Williams - 90 Gudrun 'Supergran' Ure - 84 Frank Windsor - 83 Leonard Fenton (Dr. Legg in EE) - 84 also might be worthwhile to "keep em peeled" for Shaw Taylor - 86 Is there a thread for Radio Presenters? Just Nicholas Parsons (87) and Jimmy Young (89) are certainly viable candidates

Oh come on. Time to turn in the MD and the JD, RA. I have a schizophrenic sister who can be sent into a psychotic rage by someone saying the word "purple" at the right time and with the right inflection. The guy may have fed his paranoia with neo-conservative claptrap, but if that wasn't around he would have fed it with little orange men from Beta Centauri. Palin's post was stupid, ill advised and unfortunate, but blaming her for the actions of a lunatic is unfair. As much as I would like to hang the decline of western civilization squarely on her neck, even I recognize that a conspiracy charge stemming from that graphic is a reach not only of law, but also of logic. in any case her Presidential aspirations are almost certainly up the spout, not that they were ever really credible to start with. Her greatest asset is all the material she has provided for SNL gag-writers over the past couple of years

awww I loved Henry's Cat!

"just one more thing..." Colombo himself, Peter Falk, due to turn 84 this year has been suffering from dementia for several years now.
-
Donald Sinden is one to watch, will turn 88 this year. Also his Never the Twain co-star Windsor Davies (81) one-time NTT love interest Honor 'Pussy Galore' Blackman (85) and his co-star in Two's Company, Elaine Stritch (86 I think) all worth keeping an eye on.

there are a LOT of holes in the whole thing, for one it was 2 WHOLE YEARS before the British Government launched an official investigation. I do not believe Maggie Thatcher would hold off on such a thing unless she was pressured to do so, most likely by the US, you imagine she would be demanding answers straight away. I read that there a Syrian intelligence officer was considered a prime suspect, he had experience in the kind of method of bombing that it was attributed to, but wasn't pursued cause the Yanks were trying to get Syria 'on side' at the time. There is definitely enough compelling evidence for the investigation to be re-opened, a number of the victim's relatives are sceptical of Al-megrahi's guilt, it should be noted. However both the UK and US Governments will likely do everything they can to stop this from ever happening, probably a whole load of embarrassing skeletons waiting to be unearthed...
