Scratch that, she's dead. And with her, Sobol, and Sendak dead any motivation for me making a Children's Book author theme team dies too. I have been thinking about writers too a couple of suggestions that might perk up your interest again Jan Pienkowski b.1936 who provided the distinctive illustrations for Helen Nicols Meg & Mog books & Alan Ahlberg b.1938 Alternatively you could put Sarah Ferguson and Prince Charles on your team of Children's authors Neither is particularly old, or in poor health as far as I'm aware

Think either would have sufficed really

Sheila Mercier is the older sister of actor and charity campaigner Brian Rix (b.1924) who is married to Elspet Gray (b.1929) who played Blackadder's Mum. Hmmm interesting, have there ever been siblings or married couples appeared together on the DL? Know we've had father and son in the past. Staying with soap actors, a slightly tenuous link perhaps but Ron Moody (b. 1924) did a guest spot on EE not too long ago...

I was researching Kenneth Cope's health and generally speaking he's doing well, but his wife is in poor health, according to a rant to the Southport press (about his driving ability). Renny Lister also appeared in Coronation Street, but I'm not sure how old she is, but she must be at least 75 based on her tv career. Not sure about obit chances though. Apparently he suffers from COPD

If he has any sense

Dead Gone from "very grave" to in the grave : )

Maybe...maybe not. Hosni Mubarak was said to have been in 'critical condition' a short while ago too

Fair I'd say, deemed famous enough to have a Wikipedia profile is usually a promising sign. Would probably be acknowledged on the BBC website at least

Ernest Borgnine was still pretty active more or less up until he died, mind you he did have a full 10 years on her. Her contributions may well be gradually reduced as time goes on, Betty Driver was used less and less on Corrie till she was pretty much just a spare part. Well there you go. She moved back to Blighty not long after she was written out of Neighbours, apparently she asked to leave because she was fed up of being heckled in the street by viewers.

Not forgetting Edna Dore b.1921 - she played Mike Reid's mum and was also in the Doctor Who episode Fear Her. I had thought Sheila Mercier was already dead - Good suggestion JR976evil Well apparently not, at least according to Wikipedia. Edna Dore was still fairly active up until the past few years at least. There are quite a few soap stars past and present that are worth observing actually. Jean Alexander (Corrie's Hilda Ogden), b. 1926 Mark Eden (Alan Bradley) b. 1928 Thelma Barlow (Mavis Wilton) b. 1929 Kenneth Cope (Jed Stone) b. 1931 Leonard Fenton (EE's Dr. Legg) b. 1926 June Brown (Dot Branning) b. 1927 Vivean Gray (Neighbours' Mrs. Mangel) b. 1924

2 old soap actresses worth keeping an eye on; Elizabeth Kelly (Nellie Ellis, EastEnders) b. 1921 Sheila Mercier (Annie Sugden, Emmerdale) b. 1919

Had he survived, presumably he'd just be a vegetable?

Walter Wolfgang (b. 1923) longtime Labour Party activist and VP of the CND, also some may recall he was forcibly ejected from the Labour Party Conference in 2005 after heckling Jack Straw during a speech on Iraq

Seems to be a bit of a habit with him nowadays. Maybe it's just an elaborate game of hide and seek

I used to have that tee, or one bearing that exact same quote anyway. -
Taken before his Thyme! Perhaps he wasn't so Sage after all

He had ample time to kill himself when he committed that massacre. Knowing the bastard he'll escape prison. From a 24-hr news perspective that would probably be the most exciting news event ever! Nah, he ain't going anywhere

Clive James, Andy Williams & Mark "Chopper" Read are all in advanced stages of terminal illness, should they all hold out till the new year there's really no excuse for their omission. Easy pickings perhaps but this year we had Etta James, Robin Gibb and Al-Megrahi. A Terminal Treble for 2013 perhaps?

Jack was a viable candidate a few years ago, but by all accounts has now cleaned himself up and embraced healthy living. Suppose a relapse a la Charlie Sheen isn't inconceivable somewhere down the line Erm...nevermind

Original Corrie cast member Daphne Oxenford (Esther Hayes), b. 1919 worth bearing in mind. Not sure but think she may be the oldest surviving cast member, as she was part of the original cast her demise would be bound to generate a fair bit of coverage
-
Chopper Read is claiming this morning that he has terminal cancer and may only have weeks to live: http://www.abc.net.a...-cancer/3975232 we'll put him on next years deathlist then If he's still breathing on January 1st then he should be, there would be a fair amount of uk media coverage when he kicked the bucket

She's probably oblivious to it all
