Do We Live In A Simulation?
Grim Up North replied to the_engineer's topic in DeathList extra-curricular
I've often wondered if our sense of perspective is not clear and that we are all cells in some colossal (in comparison to us) body that mirrors the relation between our body and our cells. And possibly even that colossal body is in turn a cell in another even more colossal body etc. I get the simulation idea and relation to God but actually this is nothing new - the Greeks used to think that the Gods played with them like toys - same idea just updated.- 37 replies

To try and give this thread some legs for those that do (mistakenly) believe in the Law of Averages and things being 'due' There has not been a hit in the number 4 position on Death List since 2007 (Charles Lane). There has not been a hit at the number 32 position on DL since 2002 (Lionel Hampton). And the place with the longest since a successful hit is number 42 which was Stanley Kramer on 20th February 2001. EDIT: I should add that the people currently charged with preserving these statistics until midnight on 31st December are Olivia de Havilland, Valery Giscard D'Estaing and Jimmy Greaves.

Well the % is exaggerated but there are still a whole lot of overweight people who wouldn't be worse off from a spell of enforced rationing. Incidentally I went to Wiki for 'Obesity in the UK' and had to chuckle at the illustrating photograph with the caption. Visitors sitting outside the British Museum in London including an obese man -

Remind me what % of country are obese? Could save some people's lives not having so much shit readily available in supermarkets. We buy local veg, fruit and UK meat and make proper meals out of them - so I'm alright Jack! -
Still very active on Twitter with only 7 weeks of year left.

The EU Referendum Hokey Cokey

How much stuff do we get from EU that we can't get from UK/US/other countries not in EU? I have no idea but I won't miss European wine. -
Leah Bracknell or Marieke Vervoort jokers would possibly change that. Funnily enough I was looking at Scoreboard this morning and I think there hasn't been a hit in top 10 since 25th August so I keep waiting to plummet down the leader board but if no-one dies then I get to stay where I am

Mass shooting at California bar When are the Americans going to learn - this problem will never go away until they start giving people LOTS more guns. LOTS and LOTS - it's clearly the only way forward, nothing else could possibly work. -
Kitty O'Neil Wonder Woman Stuntwoman Dies at 72 This seems to be the thread for Stuntmen and Stuntwomen (no doubt Sir Creep will redirect me shortly). I'd never heard of her but she sounds like she led an interesting life.

Political Discussions And Ranting Thread

I was speaking to an American colleague today who told me that the US election coverage always throws up bizarre state laws that are still in place. I've done no research to validate these but he tells me that 1) Colorado – by virtue of a language technicality – is the last state in the US where slavery is still legal. An attempt to change that last year failed at the ballot box as some other tax matter was connected to it and people voted no. 2) Georgia - it is technically illegal and punishable by imprisonment for up to 5 years for a women to “be on top” during sexual relations. -

Burn an effigy of Grenfell Tower on your bonfire Videos are available on line. And people call us sick! -
Good question but probably a better question to ask on the Herman Wouk thread. This is correct - she was 105 years and 136 days old when she died in 2007. Oscar Niemeyer is listed as 105 when he died according to the Death List front page obit but he was actually 10 days short of his 105th birthday. Luise Rainer was 13 days short of her 105th birthday when she died. Rose Kennedy would be the next oldest at 104 plus about 182 days.

WTF is happening in London?
Grim Up North replied to Paul Bearer's topic in DeathList extra-curricular
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_cities_by_murder_rate Wiki has a top 50 list but London didn't make the list in 2017. Its mainly South America plus US and South Africa - surprised Chicago didn't make the list. -
What makes you draw that conclusion? No mention of the Stage. All Bladder Cancer had a 50% 10 year survival rate in 2011 (incidentally making it about average for Cancers). I can see the word 'serious' in some of the headlines but have yet to see it in a quote from him yet.
