DL Status Updates: Statements, Obsevations & Verbal Tennis
Bibliogryphon replied to Lord Fellatio Nelson's topic in DeathList extra-curricular
That sounds like an opening line from a really bad country song. Hope there was not too much damage done. -
Interesting list Weebl two picks did catch my eye Charles Aznavour and Tony Bennett were on last years list and jeered our selection of them. I would not go that way again unless there was significant evidence of health problems.

I'm not aware of any DDP rule against mrs (or mr) Famous-For-Being-Terminally-Ill. As far as I´m aware DDP approved obits are the final measure of celebrity. Do correct me if I´m wrong. Whilst I am not a fan of Famous-For-Being-Terminally-Ill it is a thin line. Before he started being discussed here I had no idea who Sam Simon was but his fame increased because of his terminal illness. Some of the people on my lists might cause people to go who but fame depends on what you know and understand. I have little interest in sport so there are many names that will get obit but I would react MEH to. Whereas there are some Theatre directors who I would say oh no David Thacker (for example) has died and many other people will go MEH. If the obit comes through then the pick was justified if it doesn't then the player bears the burden. There is a lower age limit which takes out many controversial picks. Status quo works on this one.

You mean to say that what NE prints is always true, I see. I think most people see NE as taking a basic story - Dolly Parton goes to hospital - and extrapolates it with innuendo and 2+2=5 logic to spin an exciting story - Dolly Parton dying of stomach cancer. I am hoping that most people recognise this. However if they can get a celebrity to rise to the bait and make a statement about their health denying the rumour that then gets carried in the main stream media then this can be considered to be a win. Would the public assume DP has cancer just because NE said so but now she has denied it people start thinking "Is she OK?/Should I pick her for my DDP team in 2016?"

Did you seriously just ask that? To be fair their celebs look like better DL picks than ours.

After a long career in the movies, Ray Milland did a 30 year stint doing mostly TV work. Another candidate would be Gareth Thomas.

Looks the picture of health on BBC News at the moment. Made a full recovery. Surprisingly, she wont be returning to Africa anytime soon............ Now Pauline Cafferkey is back in hospital: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-34483584 Condition changed to "serious". Now "critical" http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-34529575 It's like in the Lord of the Rings movies, when Gandalf faces the Balrog in Moria, defeats it, but it manages to catch him with one tentacle and tears him down with it. Its a whip. Balrogs do not have tentacles - they are not Chthulu.

Stephen Fry steps down as Presenter of QI. This doesn't sound like he has stropped off ala Tim Wonnacott but is it related to health? Replaced with Sandi Toskvig who I thought was meant to be dabbling in politics.

I presume they are hoping the the Republic don't qualify so the have someone to console themselves with.

That is good news but I bet he still gets picked for a few teams next year because he still looks really bad.

The EU Referendum Hokey Cokey
Bibliogryphon replied to YoungWillz's topic in DeathList extra-curricular
Looks like we could have a NOW That's What I Call An EU referendum album out additional suggestions I Remain - Alanis Morisette Root of All Evil -The Beautiful South I am currently in Porto attending a European meeting. The company I work for will be seriously compromised if we leave the EU but that is not my only reason for wanting this to work. -
Yes, their qualifyers were a disgrace. Next summer I'll be supporting Belgium. Anyone up for a Wales v Belgium final? The 2016 Euros will probably be quite important considering that the 2018 & 2022 World Cups are looking like being dire farces

I just checked and there is no Ella Enchanted thread already,so if anything happens to Jimi Mistry this might be the only thread for proper inclusion for him besides dead of (whatever year) Soap opera stars due to his career-defining run as Dr Fonseca in Eastenders. Yes, that was what immediately sprang to my mind on seeing his name. I haven't watched any soaps in years, but I have no idea what Ella Enchanted is. Didn't we recently ascertain that there was a general thread for actors, in any case? Ella Enchanted is a surprisingly likeable teen fantasy here are ten reasons to like it Eric Idle is the first thing you see Opening credits to Strange Magic by ELO Anne Hatheway Cary Elwes Joanna Lumley Total silliness Steve Coogan Anne Hatheway singing Somebody to Love Supporting cast of Elves, Giants and Talking Books (Jimi MIstry) Don't go breaking my heart with no Elton John

I have seen some episodes I like the Beast of Craggy Island which Father Dougal has to put on his list of things that don't exist along with Darth Vader and non-Catholic Gods. I enjoyed what I saw. Early Channel 4 had some really great comedy like Chelmsford 123 & The Big One seems to have lost its way seriously in the past few years.

Patience is a key part of this game. We have less than 200 names in the game against 650 MPs so we have to understand we won't get them all. If I had allowed 50 picks per player then we might have got better coverage but if every player had picked each unique pick we would only have got 510. Might review the rules for 2020 (if that is when the next election is)

I didn't watch Father Ted and I have not heard of many of these actors but two stand out Derrick Branche played the asian nurse in Only When I Laugh and Jim Norton played numerous roles on Babylon 5 (if it is the same one I am thinking of)
