Seems like he is gone. Pity because I thought he really had a positive vision for Australian and was never ever embarressing on the international stage.

There is a distinct possibility she might outlive Billy Connelly (who sang the Supergran theme tune). This may be a tad confusing to some of our overseas posters. Supergran at its best was filler kids television squirralled away on Sunday afternoons (The Long Dark Tea Time of the Soul). How many episodes were actually made?

Who Will Win The Leadership Election?
Bibliogryphon replied to Deathray's topic in DeathList extra-curricular
I bet he gets a few more picks in the 2016 DDP than he did last year. -
Nothing of note to update Ms. Bettencourt, but I only recalled her name and really couldn't place her. So after wiki -- I'm being told that she, basically the owner of L'Oreal and not much else I can attest to, is somehow the 10th wealthiest person in the world with $41B? For cosmetics??????? WTF? And it isn't like it's the only cosmetic line, though maybe they have a 90% market share in Europe or some shit? How in fucking hell does owning L'Oreal make someone $41B. Bollocks I say. And anyone responding defending that statistic I say bollocks to you as well. Poppycock in fact! SC She is obviously worth it.

I was thinking that we were going to have the two football Jimmy's Greaves & Hill but this would also be a temptation.

It was Prince William Duke of Gloucester (William of Gloucester) who died in a plane crash. His plane was registered G-AWOG - a registration the CAA wasn't going to issue because of the last three letters but relented when pressured. I assumed that Bibliogryphon had confused Prince Henry, Duke of Gloucester with Prince George, Duke of Kent. They were the Queen's uncles, the younger brothers of Edward VIII and George VI. The Duke of Kent was killed in a plane crash in 1942. Prince William of Gloucester was the son of Prince Henry, Duke of Gloucester, and as you say was also killed in a plane crash, in 1972. He was never the Duke though, as his father did not die until 1974. I bow to your superior knowledge, Toastie. I could have sworn Richard got it from William when the latter croaked it but hey, I'm getting on a bit now and you know what that does to the Falk mind. I blame my mum, she followed the Royals avidly and went on about such things rather a lot. I seem to have absorbed a lot of her knowledge like a sponge. I remember she was very upset when William of Gloucester bought it, she had a bit of a thing about him. I was going off the top of my head earlier but I remember reading something about The Duke of Gloucester. The article suggested that The DoG would have taken precedent as a male brother over a female niece and because Prince William died as heir apparent the throne would have gone to back to Elizabeth. Until the law was changed a few years ago I had assumed that if Prince Andrew had died Prince Edward and Viscount Seven would have taken precedence over Beatrice and Eugenie. We need a constitutional expert. do we think Dr David Starkey posts on this site?

Wallis was nearly 40 when Edward abdicated she had not had children with her two earlier husbands. The important thing to note that if Edward had not abdicated and other events had taken their course when George VI died in 1952 Elaizabeth would not have been the heir presumptive as the daughter of a brother the throne would have passed to Richard, Duke of Gloucester but he died in an air crash which would have restored Elizabeth to the throne but much later than actually happend.

Three players may be looking forward to some points next May if Sadiq Kahn wins the election for London Mayor. If Zac Goldsmith wins the Tory nomination we look like we will get a least one hit on this.

What's wrong with getting an unused thread like this out of the archive and using it as an unofficial primate thread? Does that mean I can talk about George Carey?

I find your lack of faith disturbing....

Between 10 and 14, she'll want a platinum jubilee. That list is a bit spurious as it counts almost anyone who has ruled anything. I think that the Platinum Jubilee is a real possibility but whether Phil would see it is doubtful.

I'm not dead yet.

Probably at the moment no but in the next couple of years I think so. After Al Molinaro dies?

Still doesn't address the imbalance. If the Middleofnowhereshire Times reports that's Joe Bloggs has died on their website then that currently gets filed under List of the Lost. If the BBC Middleofnowhereshire local page reports that Joe Bloggs has died on the website that currently gets filed as a hit. It's unfair, regardless of your opinion on state news outlets and private news outletsboth of these institutions are intended for the same audience, the residents of Middleofnowhereshire and as such will reflect fame as seen by people in Middleofnowhereshire. The current rules provide a situation where a mildly notable chap from Middleofnowhereshire could die and the hit would be missed because it was report by the Middleofnowhereshire Times, whereas a few weeks later a equally notable chap dies and the hits granted because BBC Middleofnowhereshire reported it. How's that fair and equal treatment of news sources? Some of my more obscure hits have been initially only picked up by local press and I worried that there would be no national obit but I understand why the rules would limit us to the BBC. They would be nationally backed by the reporting standards that apply to the national news. If we let local press in how local do we go. Every former counciller and 90 year old verge cutter would qualify as a hit. I think part of the skill of the game is to balance the unique picks against the news worthiness of their passing. I believe that every one on my long list should be worthy of a national obit but I am sometimes mistaken. The fact that Doctor Who writer Jane Baker didn't get one startled me.

I think by a fluke beyond all probability the entire jury is composed of members of the Fort William first team squad, who know, love and respect us all. 12 Aimless Men?

Is it to prove you are actually human?

Wow I'd heard of two of those people.

Alistair Carmichael is in court over his election. The whole court should be aware of the impact of their decision on the By-election Bingo game.

What Do You Think Of The 2015 Death List?
Bibliogryphon replied to Davey Jones' Locker's topic in DeathList Forum
It is now a full month since the last hit and apart from the flurry of activity with Joy Wright and Oliver Sacks there has not been a lot of noticable deaths since George. Are we waiting for a big one or entering the becalmed waters for the rest of the year? -
Who Will Win The Leadership Election?
Bibliogryphon replied to Deathray's topic in DeathList extra-curricular
At this time of the year as the days get colder we will start thinking about the old guy with the beard, who is very fond of the colour red and whose generosity of present giving seems completely at odds with the money available. SANTA or Jeremy Corbyn? -
People I Was Surprised To Find Are Still Alive

Another of the opposite problem. Over the past few days I have been stalked by the song "Ain't Nothing Going On But The Rent" So I thought that I better check in on Gwen Guthrie and just found out she died in 1999. Never knew that. -
I do wish that Twitter would stop using pictures of Tony Hall when they are talking about BBC cuts because at first glance I think that Roy Walker has just died.

He was only given his knighthood at the beginning of the year. Is this significant? Do they rush through honours for people who may not be expected to last much longer? I remember Robert Stephens got his less than a year before he died. John Hurt anyone?
